People on the Gold Derby forums have a theory that many voters check the boxes alphabetically, since so many snubs are people with last names from the back part of the alphabet.

This sounds absurd, but I can really see it happening, since so many award voters vote on shows and movies they haven't seen - and it might be the most rational explanation for some of their choices. Say, studio/HBO people campaigning: "vote for Succession actors!" to a bunch of people who didn't watch it, and go "ok, let's check their names...there's so many of them! I'll stop at three!"

I am very glad Christina Applegate apparently gained recognition.  She is one of the greatest comedic actors of the Gen X generation, and deserves so much better.

It is unbelievable. And it is even more amazing when you think that the second place on that list (most nominated TV series without a single win) is Newhart with 25 nominations. But there is a long list of great TV series that Television Academy has not recognized.

The last couple of years, there is a trend of award-winning bodies giving more and more awards to fewer and fewer series. Spreading the wealth is not a thing anymore and in the past 5-10 years, we have expansion of content, both cinematic and on TV, and somehow fewer shows are being awarded. Last night, BEEF, THE BEAR and SUCCESSION all took three acting prizes, directing and writing plus the top prize in their respective categories. That was very rare 10-20 years ago.

Even listening to some of the acting category nominations get read out last night was kind of funny, in that regard. Some of them were basically the male/female cast of one show up against the male/female cast of another.

My biggest problem is with the cast of THE BEAR. I love them, I adore the series. But it is not comedy. They can't be in the same category as comedic performances as their performances are extremely dramatic. 

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK already moved from Comedy to Drama so we have a precedent for THE BEAR to do so with Season 3. In the next cycle - Emmys 2024, they will be even stronger, because their two best episodes - "Fishes" and "Forks" are eligible for Emmys 2024. so in September, they will sweep once again. But I do hope they move to Drama with Season 3.

Nothing wrong with that. I thought it was interesting, but only watched a few episodes. For me I think it would have been better as a movie. It's clearly well made, but I don't need that much stress.

Beef got two acting awards (for the two leads). Otherwise correct.

This has been clear for a while, but the worst example is, well, the bad seasons of GoT sweeping the drama categories, while much better shows like The Americans, The Leftovers, Halt and Catch Fire, Better Call Saul, Black Sails were on air and getting ignored.

At least these are great shows or at least really good ones - I like The Bear but I'm not super into it and would have preferred Barry to win, but I knew that was not gonna happen because, for whatever reason, Barry is not a favorite with the awards and The Bear is. The awards tend to be so predictable, you just know that certain shows will win and others will not.
