Yes awesome

Sticking with Rome characters I say Oberyn should be James Purefoy.
How about a bit of a rogue's gallery?

Billy Drago as Ilyn Payne. Or any morbid and creepifying character of your choice.

Jason Carter has a face for seaweed. Add rather more beard and you have yourself an Aeron Damphair.

Mads Mikkelsen for Jaqen H'ghar.

I could see him as Davos for sure.
These are all so fantastic. Great picks. You win second place in my heart.

P.S.-I take first, however.

I like Ciaran Hinds for Doran as well.

Another candidate Stephen Lang (best known for his role as Stonewall Jackson in Gods and Generals). Or Stannis or Mormont, but really he's more in the Tywin/Doran group agewise. Just a solid actor (although from his resume it seems he's mostly in US productions and stagework).

Zakk Wylde is totally an Umber, or Karstark, or Ironborn. Or maybe he could be Dorans axe-wielding bodyguard Areo Hotah :) . (Hey, he has imdb acting creds, so he's legit!)

I always thought Areo Hotah was dark-skinned! Have I been totally confused for years?

I actually assumed he was dark skinned also, but I don't think he actually is. I saw some art of him looking pretty much just like that Wylde guy (who could be anything, but Hotah would be an excellent choice) without long blonde hair (shorter and dark with gray in it instead).

Also, I could see Michael Fassbender playing perhaps Jaime;

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k117/ene...300_stelios.jpg

He's the "Fight in the shade" guy from 300 who has a similar humor in his character combined with impulsiveness, very Jaime-like.

However, if he's not "hunky" enough or too old for Jaime, he'd make a great Mance Rayder or Bronn.

I'm nominating Robert Allen Mukes for one of the Clegane boys. I see him more as the Hound because I can see some vulnerability in his face. He's 6'10" so even though he isn't as tall as the Clegane boys (not too many people are) he will tower above everyone else.
I know him mostly from Weeds where he played Abumchuk the native bounty hunter after Cat.

For either Maester Luwin or Grand Maester Pycelle, I recommend the fantastic Jarlath Conroy. He's done tons of work on the stage, both on Broadway and here in DC (I've seen him here in both Our Town and A Christmas Carol). He's done considerable TV, film and ad work as well. He's Irish but has lived in the states for years; whatever accent they decide to go with when they film in the UK would be no problem for Jarlath I'm sure.

Stuart Townsend for Theon Greyjoy. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0870204/

He can very easily pull off the always smiling characteristic of Theon without making it look stupid such as in this picture. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4251948032/nm0870204

I second Nikolai Valuev as Gregor Clegane. He's over 7 feet tall and in great shape (You have to be if you're the heavy weight champion of the world) He's not an oiled up bodybuilder though which I think is good. He got chesthair (and backhair) I don't know if he can act but he has appeared in some russian films so atleast he seems willing to. Come on! Just look at him:

http://www.theslipperytruffle.com/log/valuev_1.jpg
(On the left...note that the other is a heavy weight boxer aswell)

http://www.photochart.com/data/media/9/Nikolai_Valuev.jpg
(I dare you to come with a picture that is more badass)
I think Kenneth Mitchell (Eric Green in Jericho) could be a perfect Edmure Tully, though in the first serie his appearance would be limited to the last episode or so, I guess.

Staying in Jericho, "Skeet" Ulrich (Jake Green) could be a very nice Bronn. He is a little bit old, or I would vote for him as Jon.
Oh my gods, yes! If Skeet Ulrich was twenty years younger he would make a perfect Jon! Maybe we could squeeze him in somewhere? How about Benjen?

Seconding Kenneth Mitchell as Edmure. Nice pick!

More suggestions:

Lysa Tully: Emily Watson
Ygritte: Jemima Rooper
Davos: Paul McGann
Randyll Tarly: Edward James Olmos (Can we please have him in SOME role? :D)
Margaery Tyrell: Kerry Condon (is she too old?)
Renly Baratheon: Stuart Townsend
Osha: Clea DuVall (Might make a nice Asha as well...)

And seconding:

James Purefoy as Oberyn Martell
Peter O'Toole as Maester Aemon
Michelle Trachtenberg as Dany
Ciaran Hinds as Doran Martell
Jackson Rathbone as Loras Tyrell
Patrick Bauchau as Rodrik Cassel
Lyndsey Marshal as Asha Greyjoy
Donald Sutherland as Jeor Mormont (Or alternatively he'd make a great Ser Barristan)

P.S. Damn these casting threads are addictive! :D

I think Purefoy would be great, as well, but as Eddard Stark :)

:stunned: I definitely second Nikolai Valuev as the Mountain That Rides. That guy is awesome! How'd you like to see him in plate armor coming at you wielding a great sword with one hand?!

I would love to see Edward James Olmos involved in some way, as well, but I like him as Doran Martell :) I see Purefoy as Ned Stark and I see someone like Oded Fehr as Oberyn Martell.

I know everyone has different ideas as to what characters look like, etc. I'm just throwing my 2 cents worth in there ;)

I second Peter O'Toole as Walder Frey. I'm not sure they want to cast a 80+ actor though for atleast three seasons! (He'll live to book five minimum) It's a bit risky, you'd probably have to shoot all his scenes in advance. I could see Cristopher Lee as well or Max Von Sydow. If you throw those three around you'd have a good Grand Master Pycelle, Walder Frey and Maester Aemon. Swedish actor Per Oscarsson would make a great Frey as well, he is very good and I think he looks the part:

http://svt.se/content/1/c6/22/08/13/kasparinudadalen.jpg
http://www.cinemazone.dk/images/image6057.JPG

They all share a common problem though, the insecurity of old age.
