Man, I hate having to spreadsheet every piece of gear to make sure an upgrade actually increases dps. Is it just rogues? Or do other classes have to deal with ambiguous upgrades. Like, I want to equip http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49895, which are a clear upgrade to http://www.wowhead.com/?item=51023 . But, it's actually a DPS decrease until I can get a http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49998 to replace http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50764 .

It's always a case of balancing the stats that give you good stuff.

For instance the two cloaks offer totally different stuff. ATM the same cloak you have is totally carrying my Expertise, which I badly need.

People do 25-man pugs for the weekly? I only ever see 10-mans forming up for weeklies.

Depends on the number of alts you have I guess, and your guild's raiding schedule. We very often run the weekly as a 25 man on all the mains/regular raiders, and then run alts through it on 10 mans, with the mains available as needed to make up the full number needed.

Oh, PUGs. Yeah I generally have only seen ten man PuGs for the weeklies. 25 mans - herding cats and all that.

Random wackiness last night. Died three times on BQL because /range 10 doesn't apparently work for everyone and I can't run THROUGH the back wall to create more space. Then on Sindragosa had someone run up the steps at me with the frost tomb, another time when I was marked had someone else marked rocket boot through me and nuke me.

I enjoy the Sindragosa fight, but I hate that depending on how close she is to the stairs when we get pulled in my FPS drops to negatives. Maybe I just need to run straight through instead of trying to turn and run.

yeah, You came close to dieing almost every grip. :P

I sucked hard core on BQL last night. I could not seem to find my bite target. The time I got bit first and had to run out and bite ranged I did just fine, but when I was supposed to bite the guy standing next to me, for the life Of me I couldnt find him, and I got MC'd everytime.

Jurble. I wish I could just plug stuff into a spreadsheet.

Like rogues, enhancement shaman need to make sure hit is above the spell cap, then that we're expertise capped. After that generally you want either haste or ap. But the values for haste are very steppish. So to be sure we need to use rawr to load the upgrade, export from rawr into enhsim, and them simulate a few thousand hours of combat. To simplify things I only consider single target fights. multi target fights will have different stat weights. As it is every upgrade can change your stat values by huge amounts. Gahange a piece or two can alter my value for haste from 2.6 ap to 1.9 ap

I think that everyone has this sort of thing, though to varying degrees. For the most part as long as I can keep hit/expertise caps steady, identifying upgrades is easy for my paladin. (Step 1: avoid armor penetration, step 2: get more strength.) But plugging into Rawr is something I do whenever it isn't an obvious upgrade.

(My current plans; replace Ulduar crafted belt with EoF and T9 with T10 shoulders; I feel safe on; it'll change my hit basically not at all, a single expertise/stam gem in the blue socket (retaining my socket bonus & meta) keeps me at sufficient expertise, and there's a big strength boost with some haste and crit as well.)

Got my randoms done and skipped tournament dailies planning for an early night... then I started playing Red Alert 3. I fail at early nights.

I find that odd considering Footpads are BIS for me and I'm still wearing the Kologarn 10 man cloak.

Is it a giant decrease? If it's only minor (between 50-150 or so) then maybe you can rearrange your gemming.

I can't wait for the expansion if only because they're streamlining stats to make things easier to understand. I've never bothered with spreadsheets, but I'm sure it's hurting my game. Spreadsheets and parsing and whatnot is just not my idea of fun, so I can't force myself to do it.

The expansion isn't going to help much here. Sorry!

As Kal said, spread sheets will always exist. There will always be hit caps, exp caps, haste vs agility, crit caps, soft haste caps and the like.

I used to share your idea on Spreadsheets, but when I started cracking down on my rogue and making sure he was the best he could get I finally downloaded one and started working with them. At first I was highly dependent on it, but it also helped a lot. Now I'm less reliant on it and it's a useful tool for making me better at what I do, which in my opinion makes the game more fun.

If they're not for you then they're not for you. I know a few players who are great and have not touched sims or rawr, but following a little theory craft will always up your game.

Yeah, I'm not a good player. I'm an old dude. I dont have the fast twitch reflexes of a spidermonkey hopped up on redbulls. I don't keyboard turn, but I do click about half my abilities. Knowing my theorycrafting is the only thing that keeps me from totaly sucking.

Playing a paladin is the only thing that keeps me from totally sucking. And I'm not so sure about that.

for Sindy's ice grips, I have to position off the front paw and pray that there are no arcane missiles being shot when we're pulled or in else I'm boned. There are times I'm halfway to Dal if things work right, and times when, well, not so much. RNG of a boss mechanic is one thing, RNG of what my PC is going to do is annoying.

VoA continues to love me, dropped 264 Hunter pants.

Ran my first raid, which was also my first attempt on ToC. It was rocky, but we got through it. Got new boots (to go with the new neck I won on monday), and 30 Borean Leather and two Arctic Fur from the two combined runs on Icehowl.
