* 1st song: soul sacrifice by santana http://shwks.com/3th3 #seahawksdraftclues

Two songs (Soul Sacrifice and Superman's Song) are "SS" for Strong Safety.

Smooth Criminal is "SC" for Southern California

California Love is, well, referring to California

Back Door Man could refer to the safety position

Fairy Tale by Taylor Swift is, well, by someone named Taylor

Jeremy is by a band, Pearl Jam, from Seattle, which is Taylor Mays' home town

Carroll refers to RoseBUD - and USC plays in the Rose BOWL

Ring of Fire - could also sort of refer to the Rose Bowl?

#14 for Taylor Mays?

I don't follow college football, but Pete Carroll can't be this stupid, right? :dunce:

I have to say, this is a weird Draft-eve for me. Usually, I'm very excited about the players I think the Niners could get... this year I'm scared. There are any number of players I like, only two I really, REALLY don't want, yet I can't shake this feeling of dread that Clausen will be around at 13 and I'll hear his name called. Hope I'm wrong.

ETA: All those links go to bing... any chance Paul Allen is involved and pushed Carroll towards this as a publicity stunt?

I hate this draft. I miss when the draft was on a Saturday, especially now that I'm in London. Though at the same time, I love the idea of waking up in anticipation to see who we got. It's like Christmas all over again.

Like Andrik, I'm more scared than anything. We have so many potential options at #21 and quite a few places that could use an infuse of youth (Guard, WR, TE, DE, DT, Safety) that I'm worried they'll grab a Linebacker or something (though to be fair, wouldn't really mind that if say, it was someone like Brandon Graham).

Anyway, I think that anyone we get (as long as we don't reach) will be helpful to us, especially as we have all our starters coming back from our defense and all of our offense minus Coles coming back.

He's like 12. Remind me why Seattle decided to make Josh Baskin from Big their head coach?

Fuck Jason Taylor. Fuck the New York Jerks. And above all, fuck the Miami Fucking Dolphins for allowing this to happen. Fucking football.

Don't blame Jason Taylor. Reading about the saga on PFT, it was clear he desperately wanted to play for the Dolphins and not the Jets. It's just the Jets went after him with an all out campaign where as the Dolphins were tepid throughout. Was a bizarre situation.

He really, really could.

Seriously, the man is many things but "Cagey Pro-Football Mind" is not one of them. In 1996, the Pats were a Superbowl team. In 2001, the Pats were a Superbowl team. In that great divide, were "The Beat Carrol Years." And they were glorious. Mysterious injuries; "One Quarter Suspensions" (Terry Glenn); and the Drew Bledsoe "Wait, we have other receiving targets BESIDES Ben Coats? Really?" Carrol was inept. Now, with that said, many state that he- single handedly -revived the USC program. Pete Carrol is a really nice guy and a legitimate COLLEGE football force (he recruits like a maniac... but that could just be Southern California). I really LIKE Pete Carrol and think he gets a lot of unjustified negative press.

But he took a Superbowl franchise and ran it into the ground... and that lead us to the Dark Side. So, yes, I am grateful for all his hard work in this area.

Okay, this just angers me.

YOU are the Miami Dolphin FAN!

I am the Miami Dolphin HATER!

Let's not confuse our roles here.

Frankly, it could very well be that Taylor is on the back-nine of his career, walking up the 18th fairway. Maybe the Dolphins saw something in him that just makes them think "Old Guy." Then again, maybe they screwed up. Regardless, you have Marshall and you can do a lot worse than that.

I think it's very much justified. Have you heard the man speak recently? Or seen his twitter posts? They look like they were written by a 12 year old girl. This is not a man that inspires confidence. Players might like him because he's an amiable guy, but it's hard for me to see them respecting him.

Yes, he had a great run at USC. I think his personality is perfect for the college game as his easygoing nature and enthusiasm is perfect for SoCal and getting 18 year old kids pumped to play for you. I don't this same skillset serving him well among 30 year old veterans who just want to cut through the bullshit. He had a talent edge over everyone he played at USC, to some extent, because of his great ability ro recruit (partly because just where the school is located). He can't recruit in the NFL. He has to pick up whatever he can based on where the Seahawks are slotted and it's just rank idiocy to provide a "code" that allows all his competitors to know exactly which way he's thinking prior to the draft.

Up until his hiring, thought the ship had sailed on installing college coaches into the NFL and give them control over the entire organization. Thought Spurrier, Saban, Davis and co. were proof enough. Obviously the Seahawks think success in one will translate to the other, when IMO, it's a completely different skillset. Carroll should've stayed at USC.

I mostly agree. I do think that his NFL experience is overblown in terms of its competence or lack thereof, and I do think that he can get people to play for him; he's a very charismatic guy no matter what.

But I doubt he'll be an elite coach at the NFL level, and I have serious doubts about his talent evaluation at the pro level.

Unless its a complicated double bluff that designed to throw them all off his trail!

Carroll should've stayed at USC

Did he really have a choice though? I thought he was jumping ship before he could get tainted by what the recruiting investigations there revealed.

In Jets news, not sure what to think. I personally don't like a lot of the people they've signed in the offseason, and I'm worried about team chemistry, but if it lets us finally win another superbowl I really don't care.

Carroll was smart to leave USC.

Seattle was stupid to hire Carroll.

The Trojan situation was going to get dodgy but he parlayed it into a huge payday. And a college job will be there once he is fired. In the meantime, he'll roll around on fat piles of money.

Eh, not so sure about that part. His not so secret nickname at USC was "Big Balls Pete." That's the kind of persona that NFL players will respect too. Now that said, I don't care how charismatic or bold his players think he is, I still don't see him succeeding in Seattle... but it may help that this time expectations should be somewhat lowered-- he's taking over a team that no one will expect to compete for a few years.

I'm not sure they will be. His time at USC has rehabilitated people's impressions of the guy. All he did was win there. But if he struggles, the narrative will flip right back to "Carroll can't win in the NFL."

Ironically his situation is similar to Bill Belichick's when he took over the Patriots. Bill went 5-11 his first year and I remewmber a lot of people thinking: "Here we go agian." If they didn't have that dream 2001 season who knows if he would've seen 2002.

This is random, but I just happened upon

. I've always loved the guy, but I didn't realize he was such a character off of the field. He's easily one of my favourite players now, regardless of how long he stays with the Vikings.
