I laughed pretty hard too, and then I realized that somewhere out there is probably a porn site specifically devoted to Santa and Rudolph intercourse.

At this rate we'll be featuring in the top ten of search results for that one as well!

(no, I didn't check)

I just checked. Fortunately/unfortunately we're not. Ask Jeeves is currently browsing this thread, though, so there's still hope.

• He's getting his sex ed from a middle-aged man he met on Starcraft II.

Impossible, Battle.net 2.0 is so socially unfriendly, it's impossible to meet new people on Starcraft II. Maybe in Patch 1.20 when they add chat channels.

I don't play the game, so I have no idea how any of that works. Tis all Greek to me. There's no way for gamers to communicate in the game and share contact info? I was of the impression that online games are incredily social now adays, with lots of people talking through microphones to each other rather than typing even.

[snip the specifics] In conclusion, though, Cruella has agreed to have her husband try breaching the subject, because she would rather have him teach the kid this shit than some middle-aged gamer. She is still keeping the keylogger on, though, and plans on spying on him and "collecting evidence" as she puts it before bringing up the subject about the panties and possibly therapy.

IMHO your grandson is going to be about as okay as I am. He may, however, get a little freaked out and move far away from Cruella (ETA: Because of the spying, not the sex stuff), possibly reconciling somewhere around the age of 30, so be prepared for that.

Nope, hence major criticism for SC2's multiplayer (battle.net 2.0), there's no chat channels or clan support, so you're limited to people on your friends list - guys from previous games, or people you know IRL, or from websites ie. Reddit or Penny Arcade.

Strange. I played SC when it first came out, but since my computer is too old I haven't bothered with any newer games. There isn't random multiplayer where people can meet, or can players in 1v1 even talk to one another? If it's truly impossible to meet new people, then I'm not sure how they know one another, but from the conversation my son was under the impression that they're just friends from the game.

I don't see anything wrong with differences in age groups online, but when webcams and sex ed are involved the situation just seems iffy to me. That could just be all the internet horror stories I've heard making me paranoid, though. My grandson would block the guy if he came off as a pedophile, I'm pretty sure, but I'm worried about the guy manipulating him into doing shit. Penis size is a topic during puberty, with the worries of "is my penis average size? am I small?" and other insecurities running through kids heads. What if the guy says something like, "I don't know, let me take a look at it and I'll tell you" or something?

Bah, I'm just being paranoid.

I agree that the only thing really worrying is the middle-aged man. I don't get how any normal person would just decide to give sexual education to a 12 years-old (!) on the internet. Not saying he's a pedophile, but that's still something he shouldn't be doing.

On a totally different subject... did you grandson ask for a golden retriever for christmas?

There's random multiplayer, but if you say anything more than just "gl hf" you're a weirdo, or Hispanic. The only players I've come across who message you after a game is finished, and try talking are Hispanics. Weirdos.

It's not just dumb people who get preyed upon like that. The thing about pedos is they don't seem like pedos to begin with, just nice, helpful, older people, that's how they operate. A webcam is probably not something best left in the hands of a 12 year old and whoever he discovers on the internet.

Desire for Golden Retrievers? Roleplay “Santa fucks Rudolph”? After, what was the OP? “Sniffing mom's panties”?

It is shocking, and perhaps even horrifying, how well they can keep up their cover. There was a case at an elementary school in the Bay Area I was reading about, where a teacher who was everyone's favorite teacher, an outstanding guy, beloved by all his faculty, and parents, was finally caught having an affair with a kid he was tutoring. I don't understand how people can keep guises like that up for so many years, fooling even their own spouses and children. Sickening.

I'm not sure if a talk will solve that though, because he was already given a talk when his parents bought him the webcam originally.

I'm not sure if this post is serious or not. I would rather not believe there are people who would lie about something like this, and actually get amusement out of it. If someone wants to laugh then they should watch a comedy, not waste their own time and the time of others. I'm not sure what's unbelievable to you, though? As dysfunctional as the situation and family is right now, I don't think it's that out there. I've certainly heard far, far worse stories from friends, and people in professions that deal with these types of scenarios. I don't think my extended family is that messed up in comparison to others.

I suppose in a way it's a betrayal of trust on my part to be posting about my family situation on the internet, without the parties involved knowing, and maybe I should just keep all of this in the family. But my wife and I are going through a pretty cold patch in our own marriage, and she's always been the one I consult and talk to about anything significant in my life. Since I can't turn to her, I guess it's just nice to have people to talk to about the issue, rather than only letting it roam through my mind.

As weird as that stuff is, it all sounds pretty normal for a 12 year old sexually curious boy with unrestricted internet access.

Except for the middle aged man on webcam. That's alarming. Pedo's (successful ones anyway) are REALLY good at coming across as harmless and helpful.

Which is why, in general, unsupervised use of a webcam for kids is a bad idea. Even if you're not trying to do anything questionable with it, it will happen. Look at chatroulette if you don't believe me.
