Does "knob" mean something in Englishenese?

If you're going to use your local derogatory terms, use ones that everyone recognizes, like "wanker".

Knob is not that obscure a term, and pretty easy to figure out from context.

And he's right. Haley is a knob.

Colt's are unsure whether Peyton will be ready for the opening game and are asking the fans to name what veteran they QB they like. *%%^ F*CK #$@. I just hope it's not Favre they end up picking.

Really? REALLY?

This could be an ugly season for my Colts. :stillsick:

And in other news the Pats try out Clinton Portis.

Filed to ESPN: Arizona will sign WR Larry Fitzgerald to a record 8-year, $120 million deal that includes close to $50 million guaranteed.

Edit: Texans looking fantastic tonight against the Aints. Peyton Manning may miss our home opener, I'm liking our chances this season.

By signing this deal, Fitzerald is ensuring that he will play with a mediocre QB for the rest of his career. The Cards will probably not have the money to sign an elite QB in the near future.

As for the Texans, we will see how they do in the regular season. But I must say with an ailing Manning and a crappy rest of the division (Titans and Jags are doomed unless one of their QBs surprise me), it IS looking bright for the Texans.

I think the Cardinals are of the belief that they already have an elite QB.

Regardless... that is a metric fuckton of money to give to a receiver. Yes, there's an argument to be had that he's the best in the game at his position; but I just can't see breaking the bank on one player like that.

Thought the same thing. That is a ton of money for a reciever who will be something like 36 or 37 at the end of the deal. Seems like they could have really handicapped themselves with that deal.

But since the vast majority of the contract is not guaranteed, the $120M number is pure vapor. In the real world, it is a $50M deal. I don't think anyone not involved in the deal knows how long that $50 is spread out, but I'd suspect he's only really signed through age 31 or 32.

yeah, I don't see why people are freaking out about the size of the deal. Given the Cardinals' cap room this year, I bet it doesn't hurt them any more than Fitz's $10mil salary this year did. The $50 mil is the only part that's guaranteed, and I bet most of it is in riders and performance targets like 'get to the superbowl and be the MVP' and things along those lines. They make the agent sound awesome, but in reality it's just not that much.

If it does become an issue, it'll get renegotiated. If he doesn't perform, he'll get cut. Contracts are only really relevant as far as the guaranteed money goes, and if the Cardinals are smart they'll spread that out quite a bit and backload that part so they're not on the hook for a huge amount of cap if he leaves.

Also, while Holt retired at 33 and Moss at 32, both weren't the big kind of receiver Fitz is. He's closer to TO, who is still apparently able to play at 37. He doesn't have significant injury history either. While I doubt he'll be a stud at 36, I think he'll be one of the better receivers in the league for the next 4 years.

Anyone see Pitt pick off Vick three times the other night? I was in a bar in NY watching the Yankees tee off on my beloved Twins, very painful. Then the balm of seeing Vick toss INTs left and right. With the lovely IPA in hand, it was a thumbs up kind of night.

Pitt didn't do much this offseason, much like Green Bay. I guess they both think they have likely repeat appearances?

Burress' stats line @ the Yahoo boxscore is looking good; is he really playing well or is the Bengal's defense and/or the preseason factor?

The TD was a nice catch in the pouring rain but overall the Bengals really do look horrendous. The Jets DBs were just sitting back and waiting for the overthrows/dropped passed from the WRs.

The point I was trying to make about Fitzgerald's deal is this: the Cards are paying him elite QB money not elite WR money. I know Larry is a game changer,I rate him as 1/1 A with Andre Johnson from the Texans. But IMO a WR is not as influential a position as the QB position.

It'll be hard for them to pay an elite QB unless they think Kolb is that good.

The Steelers will not make the playoffs. They didn't pick up any corners (besides resigning Ike Taylor), and the Packers showed the league how to beat them by spreading that defense out.

But how many teams have a QB of Rodger's class and a WR corps as good as the packers?
