[Book Spoilers] Can Ramsay (and Reek) Wait Til Season 4?

Recommended Posts

I hope they don't cut out Theon entirely from S3. Just one or two scenes of him being tortured in the Dreadfort, so the audience can know exactly what is going on with him should be sufficient. They are going to need to cast Ramsay for S3 anyway, you'd think, to explain just who the hell burned Winterfell. The show didn't make that clear at all...

Apparently Ramsay is being cast for S3, so I doubt it. They could extend and expand on Theon's state pre-Reek I suppose (Kyra and her keys/the failed escape attempt, etc.); in fact, that could translate pretty well to TV if done properly. The Dreadfort is fucking scary even without the dungeons.

He is? Well, that's a relief. And you're right, that escape attempt and what follows would be an awesome way to show just how sadistic and crazy Ramsay is. He needs a good introduction, seeing as they took all of his ACOK stuff away.

I think they will include Theon being tortured by Ramsay next season. Remember the show doesn't exactly follow the cutoff points from the book or else Theon would be absent till we got to book 5. Some scenes from later books will be mingled with the stuff hapenning in ASOS, just like how Jaime and Brienne's scene was this season.

the escape attempt with Kyra(or whoever they want to have) would be pretty awesome on screen and a cool way to introduce our man Ramsay.

I agree, but I have a feeling we will get a new and "improved" story line for Theon and Ramsay of the writers own imagination.

I agree that they could include some of the torture and the escape attempt.

I also think they could put the Lady Hornwood story in Season 3 (or 4).

They could also elaborate on Ramsey's hunting Bran and Rickon. If I remember correctly from ASOS, at some point Bran and the Reeds meet an old man who says something about men looking for two young boys, from which I understood that Ramsey, who knew Bran and Rickon weren't dead, was hunting for them. It would be a nice way to add some suspense to Bran's travels. And it could provide an opportunity to introduce the Reeds- they could appear and assist Bran and Co out of a close call with Ramsey (the Reeds explaining they knew Bran needed help and knew where to find him from greendreams, crannogcraft) , which would assure Bran & Co (and the audience) that they're friends.

I assume they're going to do the Lady Hornwood plot.

EDIT: That's her name, right?

I imagine there will be torture, and the Kyra thing would actually make for a nice season finale. That said, two seasons of that is too much. I suppose they could move up some of Dance into Season 4 for the North, right? Show more of the Lannisters consolidation of power through Roose -- the making of alliance with the Umbers, what's going on with the Manderly's, fake Arya, etc. as they all head to Winterfell.

I have no idea if the Hornwood stuff will be included, but they are going to have to make up a bunch of content if they are doing more than checking in. I actually wish they would just let a character go for a season.

HBO probably can't wait to be able to show some good old fashioned torture porn every Sunday night!

They can't, which is probably why True Blood starts next week ;)

I'm definitely onboard for some of Theon's early captivity being portrayed in season 3, but I agree that it'd also be in the best interest of the story for us to, maybe in ep 4 or 5, be led to believe he is killed, and then not see him again until the fourth season, where he's been completely transformed into Reek

I have yet to get the opinions of my non-reader watching-buddies (my parents, who are just starting to watch them on HBO On Demand) but I imagine the burned Winterfell is too confusing to leave out Ramsay for long. As stated elsewhere in the topic, there's a LOT of background story to Theon-Reek which can be made into pretty good television, since they seem to be staunchly against doing flashbacks. We'll be seeing more Alfie and the tragedy of Theon's fall to Reekdom over the next couple seasons, I imagine. This is a change I am all for.
