Sci-2
Riding the adventure game resurgence Remember when many were ready to pronounce the adventure game genre dead, with point-and-click experiences in particular seemingly on their last legs? What a world of difference a few years can make. You could take Telltale's The Walking Dead as proof that there's still plenty of life left in adventure games, or perhaps you'd turn to Wadjet Eye Games and its recent unmissable string of adventure game successes like Gemini Rue, Resonance and the Blackwell series to make your case. But beyond those standout examples that distill the essence of what made old-school point-and-click adventures so enjoyable, there are other adventure game stalwarts who are shaking up the genre's formula.... Alcibiades
The Bioshock Infinite ending was amazing. I kind of wish that game wasn't a shooter, but some kind of RPG or adventure game. I still have to play Bioshock 1. The fact that the DLC for Infinite is going to revisit Rapture only underlines that. I have played a few hours of Bioshock 1, which makes it harder for me to restart. I think I've played the first couple hours of that game 3 times.

I meant until this year I hadn't gamed in ages.I've always followed the news though, as the graphical and AI improvements interest me along with the world building. Recently though my obsession is with the indie game scene.

Plus I was more into isometric rpgs and adventure games than first person stuff.

Recently though my obsession is with the indie game scene.I might have lost interest in gaming by now but for the indie revolution that happened this generation. I still enjoy some major triple A games, but the really interesting titles of the last few years have been stuff like Bastion, Chivalry, Journey, etc. Before we had some indie games like Cave Story, but those things were always limited by the fact that they couldn't be sold efficiently. Centrist Simon Steele
Compared to most video games, I'd say that yeah, Bioware does have pretty amazing dialog. They aren't Black Isle, but nothing is anymore. However, that's only for the most part, the first 90 minutes or so of ME3 have some incredibly cringe-worthy lines (thinking of you, speech to the Defense Committee).Yeah but I think the best is when Shepard visits Ashley in the hospital and when he ends the conversation he keeps on saying "okay, I've got to go." Pause. "Hang in there." Pause. "I'll be around if you need me." Pause. "Take care." Pause. "You'll be okay." Steps out the door then pokes his head back in. "I'll be here Ash."Or something like that. It just keeps going on and on, it's hilarious.

karaddin
On the earlier conversation about the gaming community I think it's both worse generally and worse from a sexism/misogyny perspective than the average community, but not so much so as to be recognisable. What I want to know is why MOBA seem to bring out the worst of the PC community, they are the closest you get to XBox Live and it is a huge deterrent for me to play a type of game I love. Especially when so many people who rage on a moments notice are terrible players themselves, and can't recognise teamwork but try to hero up.On a different note I've picked up Gone Home Game after seeing Anita Sarkeesian plug it, it's another Indie game that probably falls into the adventure category, there is little actually gameplay but good writing and atmosphere. I've been playing it with Brook and we're both really enjoying it as it slowly reveals what has been going on. Non spoiler write up about it from PA Report. Easily the most female and queer positive game I've played recently, and probably ever.

Easily the most female and queer positive game I've played recently, and probably ever. This is what I'm talking about. The "MOBA" genre is probably the most popular gaming genre. Basic arithmetic: a fuck-ton of people able to communicate openly and anonymously = a fuck-ton of assholes, regardless of the setting. If you can provide anything but useless conjecture about the state the gaming community compared to others then maybe you'll have a valid point. People think it's acceptable behaviour. The gaming community is easily recognizable as worse then most. That's why you hear about it. That's why people say shit like "Oh, you know what Xbox Live is like". That's why you see shit like what happened to Sarkessian or the #1reasonwhy thing or all the stories out of gaming conventions. When the defense ends up being "it's no worse then youtube comments", that should tell you something about just how bad it is.And more then that, again, the gaming community is worse because it can't seem to ever accept it's problems. It's why Sarkessian got shit on like she did. Cause more then just being shitty the gaming community is committed to shouting down people that criticize it, whether they are legitimate or not. Xbox live is considered pretty bad because it's just a bunch of highschool aged (or younger) boys yelling at eachother, you'll find no worse at any highschool - it's not because of some ambiguous issue endemic to gaming, they all listen to music, watch tv; porn and movies. How do I know this? Because I'm a highschool aged boy and we say horrible, horrible things purely for entertainment, it's just how people are. Anita Sarkeesian got shit on because she fed the internet trolls. Not because gamers are some moral subset of society. She also continues to post her vapid, nonsensical drivel while blatantly ignoring any and all criticism. "And more then that, again, the gaming community is worse because it can't seem to ever accept it's problems." What the fuck are you talking about? What do you think the gaming community is? It's not some small club that meets every week to discuss topical issues. It's a diverse community that encompasses hundreds of millions of people worldwide. That's the irony of your posts here.As for the other bit of the bolded, that's some wonderfully brazen victim blaming going on, what a fucking surprise that would happen to a feminist fighting sexism and being subject to some of the most vile abuse I've ever seen. But it's nice that you think being a high school age boy gives you license to be a horrible human being.

Saying horrible things in a satirical context ≠ being a horrible person.

I don't really give a fuck how much she got trolled we all know that's what happens when you post stupid shit on the internet (or stuff that a large amount of people will identify as bullshit), it has nothing to do with the gaming community being some malicious entity.
