Dissapointing characters

Quentyn's death was a product of circumstances and some bad luck.

Why will the envoys not work out? They need all the info they can get before they declare for anyone.

Look at the previous point. Keeping Arianne at Dorne wouldn't serve any purpose. I am sure he would have liked to go himself but that's not possible.

Oberyn's dead becase of his own mistakes

Agree with rbw2. All that you can do is plan with the information you have in hand. Doran knew that Viserys and Arianne were to be wed, but with Viserys gone, his next best move is to get his first born wed to the remaining blood of the dragon.

The Red fucking Viper. When Tyrion reacted with horror to his presence, I was intrigued. When he sat there in shock, thinking about what a vile bastard Obs was and began giving us some backstory on him, and thinking about how dangerous the situation with the Tyrells had just become due to the presence of this one man, I knew I would adore the guy and all of the flavor he would bring to the story. When Obs began to speak, I fell in love with his wit and his venom. When he stood for the Imp, I swooned. I began to think that things were too good to be true when he started dominating Gregor, and my instincts proved true. Goddammit, Oberyn. I wanted you to destabilize the Lannister/Tyrell alliance in KL, not just go out with a bang ridding us of that vile shit Gregor.

Unlike many others I find the Meereen Dany really interesting, I love love love the chapters :)

For me however, I was disappointed by Aeron's POV chapters (so far). We seem to get a bit too much religion and stiff backbone. I know Ned was quite honourable and rigid but boy. Aeron is one hell of a disappointment, so much potential in his chapters (the Kingsmoot) but they just felt flat to me for some reason. Hopefully that will change in WOW though, with GRRM's hints

Quentyn Martell, he does something anyone could do, and Aegon's mere existence would fill the role of Quentyn's death if Quentyn wasn't there.

Critically, which no one did. It is not like there was a queue out there to release the dragons. Heck, there would have been an uproar to kill them once after Yunkai made it clear that they wanted him dead, and if not for Ser Barristan, Hizdahr would have handed them in a platter.

Quentyn had a part to play (albeit a minor part) in the large scheme of things and yet he played it well with honor. He gave up his life for his friends and his family and that speaks a lot. The way Ser Archibald responds on seeing a burnt Quentyn is one of the most touching scenes in ADWD.

Yep, Oberyn seemed like an interesting character. I hope that void is filled by the Sand Snakes.

The Others are moving south at a glacial pace. In AGOT's prologue they were a few days north of the Wall, and now they're at Hardhome... a few days north of the Wall.

They were a few weeks ride north if I remember correctly. I still agree with you though, they are SLOW.

Isn't Oberyn doing it from his grave? If Oberyn doesn't die, does Arianne coax Ser Arys to smuggle Myrcella? Does Darkstar (for whatever intentions) do what he did? Does the King's' council get one of the sand snakes (who are as reckless as their father) as a permanent addition?

I am with you on being shocked by Oberyn's sudden death. I was hoping for more out of him and I was actually rooting for the guy, but I don't know if it was necessarily disappointing for me.

I'm cautious of saying which characters disappoint me in an unfinished series, because there's still plenty of room for them to be a "Aha! GRRM had this planned all along!"

But if we're going for the right now?

Arianne Martell - She still has plenty of time to take a sharp right into Awesome, but I'm underwhelmed with her story so far.

The Tyrells - To be clear, I'm disappointed there isn't at least one Tyrell PoV. Totally GRRM's choice, but we have PoV's from very minor characters in comparison and I'd love to know what's going on in the inner workings of the Tyrells.

Valid point. I guess my disappointment is in the fact that he isn't doing it himself in the flesh. I looked forward to seeing Obs and Mace spitting bile at each other. Him making Cersei's skin crawl. Any interaction between him and QoT. The snakes just don't do it for me in the same way Obs did. The all female hit squad with a knife specialist, whip specialist, etc. just doesn't pack the same punch as the most dangerous man in the western hemisphere.

Fair enough. I think we both agree that a living Oberyn Martell would have been so much fun than a dead one (as good as he is ;)).

I must be weird but I really enjoy Aeron's POVs I think it gives us an insight into religious fundamentalism in Westeros (and the bit with the rusty hinges is surely enough to keep someone interested)

One thing that has disappointed me is that some of the worst Freys (Raymund, Lame Lothar, Black Walder) have had no comeuppance yet and for me just lynching Ryman didn't really feel like justice

The TV show makes Dany show no remorse for Viserys, she just stares and says dragons cant burn or something like that.

Dany's dead eyed wooden stare just....really rustles my jimmies. In the book, she seemed almost shocked, but at least somewhat nonplussed. But then again, nearly everything about Emilia Clarke's portrayal of the character makes me seethe.

Cersei, I don't like her as a POV

I expected Awesome Evil Plotting Queen of Awesome.

And i got Regina George. I am...very disappointed. /Zorg

Tyrion disappointed me by being horrible in ADWD.

Victarion Greyjoy. A POV from someone Ironborn who isnt an angsty bastard? Neat! Instead, i got The Biggest Dumbass In GRRTH. At least Asha exists.

Stannis. Only because i want his POV. :P
