Galactus is still watching Buffy & Angel, seriously.

So yeah, I haven't watched in a while, I tried to watch this episode like four times an failed due to interruptions, so...

I'll probably won't arse myself with the death-count this time, just regular stream-of-consciosusness thoughts.

Buffy 4x19: New Moon RIsing

Aka. The Oz Returns Episode.

Tara and Willow are considering getting a cat. I root for calling it Mrs. Kitty Fantastico.

"That's a metaphor." Helpful.

Surprise Oz.

And it's all drama-y.

"I mean, she was totally dealingw with Oz being a werewolf..."

I feel like they're trying to make a not-so-subtle analogy between lycanthropy and... Something, but I'm not sure what they're going for.

Although the entire "No, no new guy...." thing is vaguely nice and I suspect relatable.

I love how the go-to for any kind of training is Tibet. They can fix anything there apparently. Batman ninja training? Tibet. Werewolf cure? Tibet. Dr. Strange magic? Tibet.

Werewoof attack!

My subs just translated "Warlock" as "Warlord".

Awkwardness.

"Monsters are people too!" Well, yes, no, kinda.

"It's complicated because of Tara."

"You mean Tara has a crush on Oz!?... Oh."

That scene with Spike and Adam was funny.

Ah, classic, you get rid of the moon thing and now it's a hulk thing.

Initiaitve to the Complication!

Time to infilitrate the INitiative.... Again.

Well, that was a short escape attempt.

"You do sort of look like an evil olive."

And Riley does the entire "Throw the badge down" thingie.

This is all very drama-y. And reinforcing the entire "no one can be happy" thing.

Yay! This makes me so happy.

I don't know what to say about this episode. It wasn't bad. But it was sad and marked a turning point in the show that I personally didn't love.

Not that there isn't some great episodes to come. It's just the group dynamic is changed. It becomes more disjointed and less familial.

At least that's how it felt to me.

Oz was apparently the glue holding them all together.

More realistically, the relationships and the show in general don't quite work as well outside the high school context. I think Angel handles this better by flat out confronting how living in this kind of world is isolating and fucked up.

Seriously though, Oz leaving still makes me sad these like 15 years later. And Tara is dull as fuck and so worthless as a replacement.

Angel S1E20: Sanctuary

Second part of the Faith two-parter.

Aww, that fake-out was so obvious.

Yah Angel, I can kind of see your thing, I can also see why Wesley would be upset since y'know... SHE TORTURED HIM.

"Sugar high? Maybe not a great idea."

Kate has superior X-files knowledge.

"Is he dead?" "Well, he is a vampire."

Ah, those guys.

Those guys are pretty much the least menacing guys ever.

Heh, obvious joke, but stil. "So howdoes this work?"

This episode wavers between "pretty thoughtful" and "ludicrously melodramatic" about ever five seconds. Some lines/scenes are great, some... Not so great.

"...And I scrwed her... And her boyfrind, only him literally."

"We never..."

"Oh not you, the new one."

I expected the assassin to be someone we knew, but he was just a slobby guy :p

Surprise Buffy!

Okay, that sentence involved way too many "assassinate"s.

Douchey Lawayers hair is really distracting. It's like it's from a couple of years earlier than the rest of the show.

Classic hero: Might argue but the moment someone's in danger it's just react.

Chekhov's dart!

Angel's getting a bit big for his britches.

And on the same note skip Season 4 of Angel--you'll be glad you did.
Or don't, because it's one of the best early examples of serialized TV in the new age that there is. It's amazing.

Agreed. Basically there's one character a lot of people find annoying, and a little bit of slightly dubious plotting forced on them by real world circumstances; otherwise, it's a fantastic season.

Hell yeah. S4 is excellent. One specific scene has me in stitches every time.

when it's revealed notCordy is the Beastmaster & they piece together all the evidence, they flash to Cordy butchering Manny "Lizzie Borden-style" (naked, in other words) it is so over the top & just fucking brilliant.

The ending of the Faith/Angel/Buffy thing drove me nuts. The argument they had in the police station at the end was infuriating. Faith hurt Buffy, but when Buffy decided to rub Angels face in the fact that she had moved on and was in a new relationship just to spite him, all I could think was "you miserable bitch". Angel had every right to dress her down for deliberately trying to hurt him when all he was trying to do was help make the Faith situation better (any hurt he caused Buffy by doing so was not intentional).

And then he follows her to Sunnydale to apologize? Christ Angel grow a set. She deliberately tries to hurt him and he runs to apologize? At least the Angel/Riley fight was good. Angel hurling him around was one of the cooler spots that season.

Buffy S04E20: The Yoko Factor

This is going to be one of those boring "the villain tries to sunder the bonds of friendship" episodes isn't it?

Plotty plotty plottiness

So Adam's such a shitty bad guy they're going to bring in Spike to actually do something? Well, I guess it works.

That's a really weird pose from Buffy.

Though it would be fun if Angel's trigger was Cremé Bruleé.

I guess Giles has taken up the "thematically approporiate singing" duty from "Random band at the club".

I do admit Miss Kitty Fantastico is rather cute.

Ah, the "Xander is insecure and patethic" line.

Arguing, arguing, SURPRISE ADAM!

That's thin allegory there. Really thin.

Obvious trap is obvious?

Oh wait, it's just Angel here to Drama it up some more!

Some fighting in the dark.

I almost expected them to do a "Angel is right behind her but y'know, he's not reflected in the mirror" thing.

"Running your car into a tree is an accident! Running your FIST into someone's FACE is a plan!"

Tell 'em off Buffy!

Seriously, they're both behaving like jerkish children.

And Spike's manipulations mature...

Cliffhanger!

I think he runs back to her to not leave their last conversation at them being mad at one another.

Angel Season 1: War Zone

Vampires are getting ambushed by.. Blade?

Cordelia's lesser known superpower!

He's... Awkward.

"Are you familiar with Dungeons & Dragons?" "Yeah, seen a few..."

Demon Brothel.

Honestly, the leve of integration between human and monster society seems to fluctuate depending on the needs of the plot.

Stake gun.

And stake-gun guy is dead.

Uh huh! Complications!

Pruneface fight scene!

And here comes the Vampmobile!

Heh, booby traps.

There's something vaguely stereotypical here, angry black man being talked down by white (kind of) authority figure...

Once again I'm confused about vampish regeneration and general durability.

Skinhead vampires? I guess after Nazi Demons the're next.

Trenchcoat and gas mask vamps? I guess that works.

And of course she was vamped.

Heh. Angel being uncomfortable with modern technology (and his dancing) never ceases to be funny.

And Angel just casually dusts the lead vamp and intimidates the others.

I think he runs back to her to not leave their last conversation at them being mad at one another.

I understand that he didn't want bad blood between them, but he had every right to be angry. She lashed out and tried to hurt him and then didn't even feel the need to apologize. It was really ugly of her to rub that in Angels face and made me dislike her for a long time.

Totally agree there. Angel was pretty much 100% right.

Frankly, I found Buffy more and more unlikeable with every season from 4 on.

Angel: Blind Date

So angel and Douchey McHairdude (seriously, his hair is amazing, it's some kind of mullet-something crossbreed that makes him look like a complete asshole, which he is, so it works) are trying to stop a blind assassin from murdering kids.

Gunn (?) is causing a distraction. I wonder how often that happens at law offices.

And the even brought a vampire.

And thanks to pink powder, Angel enters the Vault of Evil.

And Angel triggers an alarm. Of course he does.

Random mind readings huh.

When Wolfram and Hart terminates you they TERMINATE you.

Encryption that can't just be broken by a teenager and a laptop? Shocking!

W&F are kind of cool as far as villain go.

So they call Willow. Huh.

Battle of the blindies!

So... She's a T-rex? Can't see stuff that's standing still?

But what profits a man if he gains the world yet loses his soul? Well, the world for one thing.

So he sold his soul for an office.
