Jon's last chapter in Dance suggests that he fulfills the criteria as well.

When the Red Star bleeds - the knight killed by Wun Wun had a star for his sigil.

Born amidst salt and smoke - Bowen's tears and Jon's "smoking" wound.

To wake dragons from stone - Jon's hidden identity as a Targaryen will be revealed from the crypts of Winterfell.

They don't like her.

They think it's too obvious.

Mel saw Snow in her fires looking for AA.

Well, I can speak for myself, and for me dislike certainly isn't an option. Given that I believe that AAR is not universal hero, I am not inclined to believe that anyone will be some sort of embodiment of savior. I do believe that we might have more AARs, with Benerro naming Dany, and Mel probably naming Jon. That being said, I think entire AAR thing is just religious preaching, nothing else.

Dany fits the prophecy, as do a number of other characters.

I don't think the series will provide a clear cut answer to who AA is. More likely a number of people will play a role in fighting the others and the identity will remain ambiguous. A singular saviour to rid the world if darkness doesn't seem like something Martin would end the series on.

My concern with Dany as a candidate is that she fits too literally. The visions and prophesies shown in the books have generally been more imagery based such as Dragon = Targs, Purple Snakes = Strangler Poison, Wolves = Starks.

I don't wholly discount Dany as a possible AAR but I think Jon is more likely. His is the Song of Ice and Fire....

I think there is a good chance that AAR is Dany. Part of the fun of the AAR prophesy while reading ACOK is that Mel is going on and on about it being Stannis when the whole time she is describing Dany in a quite obvious way. It could well be that GRRM intends for it to be someone obvious to increase the irony of Mel's mistake. Also Dany is associated with mistaken prophecies from the middle of AGOT onwards so it is sort of a theme for her to have people proclaiming that some male relative of her's will be a great hero and completely missing the fact that Dany might be the hero just because she's female.

I think it could be Dany, Jon or some combination of the two.

I don't think it's 'obvious' that it's Dany, though, because she's only fulfilled part of the prophecy. Same goes for Jon.

After Ned's Death, the Red Wedding and pretty much all of ASOS, Victarion being AAR, or even more likely Azor Ahai just being a religious story and the whole 'AAR' thing isn't gonna happen at all, both seem pretty possible to me. I don't know why a lot of the fan community assume Jon or Dany are going to be AAR and defeat the White Walkers and all will be okay, to me that's doesn't fit into the story that George is telling, and I can't see him finishing the series with a cliche fantasy ending like 'the outsider bastard from the good family is actually the son of a prince and he's the prophesied hero who defeats the evil ice monsters'. In fact, a little off topic but Jon not being reborn at all seems to fit into ASOIAF for me.

As for Dany being AAR, that does have some credibility to me, and I actually wouldn't mind a little bit of cliche (it is still fantasy after all, it's okay to use traditional tropes, they become tropes because they usually make good stories anyway). But really I see AAR as more of a little subplot and not necessarily crucial to the ultimate endgame scenario, which I think will be based more on the choices of individual characters than any one ultimate hero.

I think that AAR is just another name for TPTWP (for many reasons). The only people who can be TPTWP are Dany, Jon or Aegon (if he's real) because they are of the line of Aerys and Rhaella.

Which is why I exclude everyone but them.

Also just something I'd like clarified, are the prince that was promised and Azor Ahai Reborn the same prophecy? I assumed Azor Ahai was specifically a tale from R'hllor's religion, whereas TPTWP was more of a general legend, and AAR was just the's religion's spin on it.

I believe they are, but the text hasn't explicitly said so.

They are different, AA is a prophecy from the Red Priests based off an unamed hero from Asshai that stopped the long night with a red sword and TPTWP we know little about, all we know is that his/her song is the song of ice and fire and he/she is involved in the return of dragons.

We know that TPTWP will be a warrior, as Rhaegar believed he would be a warrior after he seemingly read something about it.

We know that Melisandre and Aemon use the terms interchangeably. He asks "where the prince that was promised?" And she says "he stands here before you" and that Stannis was "born" in salt and smoke" and that he had Lightbringer. Aemon never says that she was talking about a different figure, nor does Mel say that TPTWP is different from AAR.

We know that both AAR and TPTWP "wake" dragons.

They very much seem to be the prophecies about the same person to me.
