Official Casting: The Court

Rules for this topic:

1) No discussion! This is a thread to post your suggestion(s) for actors to play the roles of various members of the court who don't fit into the other groups already present. This means Robert and Renly, Littlefinger, Pycelle, Barristan, Stannis (though he's unlikely to appear in the first season), the Kingsguard, and so on. Non-sticky threads created by you and other posters are there for discussion instead.

2) Keep it brief. Provide an IMDB link, official webpage link, a brief explanation for why you'd think they'd be a good in a role, that sort of thing, but don't go overboard!

3) Keep in mind that we're interested in serious casting suggestions. $20 million a film stars will not be in the TV series as regulars. Think television actors NOT already involved as a lead in currently on-going series, Hollywood actors who've made forays into TV before and might do it again, and so on.

Eventually, we may run polls to figure out the "cream of the crop" and write nice, shiny official forum reports concerning these actors. But the main thing is, keep the ideas coming.

Here goes my suggestions for the court roles.

Brian Blessed for Robert Baratheon
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000306/

Mark Strong for Stannis Baratheon
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0835016/
A little young maybe, but he has that hard face.

Billy Crudup or Matthew Goode for Renly Baratheon
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001082/
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0328828/
Okay, maybe Crudup is beginning to become a bigger name again due to Wathcmen, and Goode is an up-and-comer, but still...

John Neville for Pycelle
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0627453/

Willie Garson for Varys
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0308606/
Has been many times on HBO (Sex and the City, John from Cincinnati), a great character actor.

Gildart Jackson or Michael Sheen for Littlefinger
http://www.gildartjackson.com/assets/image...en/a_gil250.jpg
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0790688/
Gildart Jackson is relatively unknown, I've seen him in an old Boomtown episode, and he had that menacing charm.
As for Michael Sheen, when I saw Kingdom of Heaven's opening scenes (he was the priest), I instantly thought "Littlefinger".

Bernard Hill for Ser Barristan Selmy

Ewan Mcgregor would be perfect for Little Finger, as would Michael Sheen. They might be a little expensive however.

Varys- Ian Mcneice

I second Bernard Hill for Barristan Selmy. Brilliant choice.

As a leftfield choice for Barristan- Anthony Head.

Might look a little young but he's in his mid 50's. Nothing a bit of hair dye cant fix either.

Lance Henriksen as Ser Ilyn Payne.

I know that it's pretty much impossible (a mute character who appears only as an extra in the first three books), but he has a scary, rugged face, which would be great for our favourite executioner. :)

Grand Maester Pycelle - Bill Raymond - ie The Greek from The Wire. He looks like a kind, doddering old man, but he plays the dangerous guy well. I think he'd sell Pyrcelle as the slightly senile old man who just might be selling you out behind your back.

Ben Barnes (Stardust as the younger version of the father, and the titular role in Prince Caspian) for Renly Baratheon:

He would make a fantastic Stannis! Great pick, Rusty.
