But it's already reported that either side will request a recount.
Fragile Bird
Ah, I feel dumb. 99% of the votes have been counted in Westmoreland county. So that means about 690 votes to go. On CNN they said the candidate has to request a recount.

DMC
Lamb still hasn't come out yet. I expect he'll wait for the Washington Co. absentees to be reported then claim victory. Or at least that's what he should do.
TheKitttenGuard
It is somewhat weird how intense special elections have become. Regardless of circumstance a special election will not elicit much of a response 15-20 years ago. Now you have people gnashing teeth, follow results second and second, and determine to find some variable in counties people had no idea existed only hours before. All this and in the end the winner will be facing another election in less than 8 months.

CNN says there are just under 1400 absentee votes to be counted. Even if Seccone way outperforms what he did in the day's vote and takes 70% of the outstanding votes, he falls short by 19 votes. But it is very unlikely he will take 70%, when he took 57% and 53% of the votes in the two counties.

True but given the every election is the end of the world mantra and the polarization of American politics it was more or less inevitable.

The GOP may fight it, but unless some absolute craziness happened with Washington Co. absentee ballots, this result will stand. Anyway, this is a seat with a Cook PVI of R+11. Literally all 20 seats Cook lists as Lean R*, and all 27 seats Cook lists as Likely R, are equal to or less than R+11. And the Dems don't need any of those seats to retake the House. It's time to recognize the Dems as solid favorites to retake the House. Edit: *Sorry, except for Mia Love's seat.
Fragile Bird
I see Republicans are spinning this as a good outcome because their polls showed Seccone down by 6 points, but Trump's visit made it a near dead heat.

Fragile Bird
It’s just amusing. Someone else though said ‘there’s no way to put mayonnaise on this shit sandwich’ which I thought was pretty descriptive!
