Paxter
Improved performance from Australia. Better defensive showing than against NZ and the midfield started to get some decent passing happening in the second half. Not sure we deserved the win though - Kennedy's goal was largely attributable to a deflected cross and an extremely loopy bounce over the defender's head. Jeor
ok it is official there are going to be job cuts at work. That means my head is on the block.Get the paper early this saturday and make some callsSorry to hear GS - hope everything turns out alright!I haven't dropped in here for a while. Man this sport is stuffing up my sleep schedule, watching French Open, some of the cricket, and the World Cup is really going to screw it up too. Travelling down to Melbourne in a couple of weeks' time for a work conference - going to catch some AFL at the MCG (I confess to not following AFL but the guy I'm going down with is a fanatic who's already organised tickets, no idea who I'm seeing). OldLordPlumm
I should care more about the cup being a former Perth Glory fan, but I was just put off after last time. When we lost after the penalty our fans behaved like kids having a tantrum, grown men on the street in Melbourne with their faces painted like soccer balls weeping openly. :ack: Did anyone else see what Kritina Keneally said about the kokoda track My linkThat's more ammo for people to use against her for being half American. Also is anyone familiar with the verse not often used in the Australian national anthem?"Beneath our radiant souther cross we toil with hearts and hands, blah blah blah, for those who come across the sea we've boundless plains to share"The first time I heard it was when I joined the army after HS. On ABC the other night they interviewed an assylum seeker from afghanistan who recently got his citizenship and he feels very strongly about getting more of his brethren out here. He said "the anthem I just sung it say for those who come across the sea we boundless plains to share, so it there, so it must be happen."I wonder if this was an older version altered to reflect modern sentiment and if the old version only comes out depending on the occassion. And you are quite right that the older version did not talk about "those who've come across the sea". The original version went:Beneath our radiant southern Cross,We'll toil with hearts and hands; To make our youthful CommonwealthRenowned of all the lands; For loyal sons beyond the seaWe've boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combineTo advance Australia fair.In joyful strains then let us sing"Advance Australia fair!" Paxter
Dockers look set for a second straight loss today - St Kilda have completely outplayed us in the first half. In slightly better news: exams will be over in two days' time ;).Anyone staying up for the big game tonight (apart from Horza who I know will be tuned in)? First Brown didn't start due to injury and then the Bulldogs smashed us by heaps. But what was the red card? :PNo, seriously, this was a terrible way to begin the WC campaign.
