Bronn Urgandy
We have Davos Seaworth, a man who risked life and limb to feed a starving garrison at Storms End. The man who smuggled Edric Storm out of out of the grip of Stannis Baratheon. In short, Davos Seaworth is a hero. But all hero's have a dark side, and Davos' is that he is an awful father to his sons, he makes Craster look Papa Walton. The first case we have is the case of the sigil, he shames his children by having an Onion on his sigil, to teach them 'humility', but all Ser Davos is doing is reminding the world that he and his sons are but common smugglers, and as we all know with the sad case of Janos Slynt, the highborn do not respect and will even seek to tear down the lowborn that dare to rise too high. Even while at war. Then we have the water casks, two of his sons complained of their water casks being made of pine, an inferior wood where the water will spoil on any journey of any length. Here we get an account of Davos lying to his sons when he says he'll mention it to King Stannis. He does no such thing! We can only assume that his sons had to set sail with inferior water casks. Why? Because Davos wants his sons to know humility, whereas in truth he's showing the world that him and his common born family are still underfoot his highborn betters. There is also the point that he is too afraid of King Stannis' reaction to demanding that his sons get treated as well as proper highborns. Since its been firmly established Stannis took Davos' fingers as some kind of sick joke, never expecting him to take the Knighthood at such a price. Next he sails into the Blackwater, and gets blown off his ship. Does he once search for his sons while swimming? Of course he doesn't, much like with the water casks, he doesn't want to risk his own skin for his sons. Instead washing up on some rock and eating crabs, Ha! If Stannis is a lobster, it didn't stop Davos from eating Stannis' kin while he was starving. After he is rescued from the Blackwater, does he make an effort to see the youngest? Hell no! It's all about King Stannis. Does he try to ingratiate himself with his other son and his new God? Hell no! Its all about King Stannis. He even tries to murder the Red Woman. You know, the woman who convinced Devan to find religion. This is the man that named one of his youngest after Stannis, its clear where his demented alliegence lies, he's given up his fingertips and now his given up his family, is there any level Davos Seaworth wont stoop too? Oh thats right, his own life, since he happily ate all those crabs rather than starve. Davos is clearly in this for himself, taking Knighthood and Lordships, but all the while rubbing that onion in everybodies face, so that house Seaworth will never escape the stigma of coming from Smugglers, he wants to ensure his sons and grandsons never rise higher than him, but all he's ensuring is his family goes the way of honourable house Slynt, since he only has to slip up once and his head is gone. Davos Seaworth is an awful father, and person, spit upon his name in here.
Sullen
11/10 Davos's crimes would make Gregor sick... I mean, walking around with his own cut off fingers around his neck (Probably for some kind of sick sexual satisfaction)? Guy is clearly a psychotic pervert! (Not to mention he cheated on his wife.) JKeats
Damn right! Don't forget that time Stannis ordered Daven to bring cups of water, as if he was a mere servant! But does Davos object? Of course not, all so his son can "learn humility."

Good Guy Garlan
On the other hand... Thanks to Davos, for the most part, Devan ended up assisting Mel in her chambers, and he's totally hitting that, so...best dad ever?

Lord Spark of House Spark
Don't forget he's left his remaining son to guard the keep and womenfolk against the Ironborn and the GC whilst he swans off up the fjords of Skagos looking for someone elses kid.And he wouldn't let daven have GTA V for christmas even though all his mates have got it and that does definately make him the worst dad in the world

complexphoenix
Davos Seaworth merely does what is expected of a vassal in a feudal society. Stannis gave him lands, so he owes Stannis fealty. That means he's supposed to come when Stannis calls, serve Stannis to the best of his ability, fight for him and risk his life for him - and bring his sons along, who are expected to do the same. Davos does everything he's obligated to do, and with flying colors. Because of the inherent risks of fighting a war, a lot of his sons die and the security of his family's lands is seriously threatened. But that's how life works in a feudal society, and it's important to note that Davos stands to share in the spoils of victory in the event Stannis wins. He's not being a bad father, he's being a good vassal.
ARYa_Nym
I don't think he's the worst but I don't get why he gets on best fathers list. He's spends most of his time away from his wife and children.
Ser Greg of House House
Agreed. Worst fathers: 1. Davos way below... 2. Craster3. Tarly4. Balon5. Tywin

WeirwoodTreeHugger
I was sort of hoping this would be serious. We haven't enough quality troll threads lately. The banhammer just comes down too fast.
Tywin Smokin a Blunt
He's an even worse husband too. He follows Stannis to the end of the world and doesn't even send so much as a raven home to let his wife know what's going on.
RoamingRonin
To make matters worse, he sends off Edric Storm only to leave his own son with Stannis and Mel. He just doesn't care. I have a theory he's deliberately giving his children to R'hllor.
