polishgenius
Atleti showing that even if you're going to be an ultra-organised defensive outfit, you want more than just that in your locker. Mourinho's been out-tacticed something special here.

Disturber of Peace
I love Chelsea but to be honest Atletico deserve to go through. It is ok. This Barca fan also gives a bow-bordering nod to Madrid teams for these displays. And feels happy actually.

Spockydog
Mourinho's team selection constitutes an epic fail. Bizarre, really, when you think about it. But I'm not complaining, having collected on the correct score at odds of 33/1, as well as 33/1 for forecasting the correct number of corners, cards, and goals. Doubly sweet as well, considering Mourinho's comments about Wenger being a specialist in failure. It's looking likely that we will finish the season with more trophies than him. :smug: :smug: :smug:

The constant "you haven't won a trophy in 8 years" is tiresome.

And you're wrong about context not being in our favour. Anything won last season and beyond is historical, and when it comes to history, I think you'll find we have the upper hand... :P
Mexal
Ahh nice. Just read Mourinho blamed injuries and suspensions for today's failure. Outside of Cech, who else was injured today? Normally I wouldn't care but I can't stand hypocrites. Wenger is a "specialist in failure" when missing his entire midfield but it's the injuries fault they lost today and not the tactics or team selection. Awesome.ETA: now that I look at it, Matic was a big loss though he was always cup tied. Not so sure on Mikel or Lampard.

It's a shame, really. His first spell in the Premier League, he was a breath of fresh air. Brilliant, funny and charming. But watching him turn into this miserable, grisly caricature of himself is really kinda sad. What else is sad, is thinking about what might have happened had the spine of our team not been injured for so long. We would likely have pissed the league. We would likely have pissed the league.Maybe but I'm not so sure. I think we would have been much more competitive against the top 4 but I can't definitively say we'd actually win the league. We still have striker issues and in an open game like we tend to play, could still see any of them giving us fits.
Spockydog
la la la la **puts fingers in ears** ETA: Okay, we might not have *pissed* it, but look where we are now. Only seven points off the top. I'm almost certain that most of the points we dropped (infamous heavy away defeats aside), would not have been dropped with anything approaching a full-strength squad. But, yeah, we'll never know. Jeor
It's a pity really because this season was really the time to win the league. United were all over the shop, Chelsea kept on dropping points to the lower-ranked teams and City had various away stumbles at the start of the season. I expect all three will be stronger next season, plus Liverpool (whether they win it or not) is going to be just as strong, if not better if they make some acquisitions. Glad Atletico got through. Mourinho did what I wanted, he beat Liverpool but will end the season without a trophy. Excellent.
