Lord Oak
When I first read of Pretty Meris, it was perfectly obvious for me that she was Brienne. There was no clearer description of a character that was "new" but really wasn't. She had the ultimate PERFECT physical description (I first learned doubting everyone's identity when the vagabond at Shae's door was really Varys). Of course your first reaction will be "but she is obviously going somewhere with Jamie in Westeros". But that would not be too hard to explain if needed. COME ON, it is perfectly possible in Martin's world. 1) Brienne didn't want to bring Jamie to Stoneheart's justice (I hope no one even believed she was really taking him to Sansa). 2) Glamor is practiced by R'hllor's folk, as Melisandre showed us, so the Brienne Jamie saw is not necessarily the real one, but just a perfect bait to get him to Zombie Catelyn. But what is Brienne doing in Essos with the Tattered Prince? Who the Tattered Prince really is? Sadly, my hypothesis doesn't go any further than that yet, so if someone finds this possible, please shoot other ideas or at least help discuss other information that might go for or against this thought. Thanks!!!! Lord Oak
Lord Oak
Is it too crazy to say that Thoros is now the Tattered Prince? He was not really happy with the Lady Stoneheart. Maybe he took Brienne and Pod and some others with him and took over the Windblown. Brienne would be the key clue to understand all that.
Bayard
Only if jet packs were really available in Westeros.
Arataniello
They are also both secret Targaryens, and also both are the hooded man in Winterfell (Brienne is the hooded man in UK editions, Thoros in US editions). In other words - no.
SunflashJT
Brienne appears in ADwD late in the book after Pretty Maris had already been introduced. This is a pretty wacky theory but to each their own.
Lord Oak
That's covered in what I already wrote. Brienne appears later in the book, but she is not necessarily the actual Brienne.
Hos the Hostage
Brienne is the last person I'd expect to succeed in disguise. Not that a big female knight is easily spotted, but her character does not match Pretty Meris in any way.
Amoracchius
Putting aside obvious issues like how Brienne would get from Westeros to Astapor so quickly and she could implant 20 years of memories in the heads of the members of the Windblown, Brienne and Meris don't look alike. Sure, they are both blonde women described as unattractive, but the similarity ends there. Meris is described as "a thumb under six feet," whereas "Brienne is well over six feet tall," (SSM). Meris has "eyes as cold and dead as two grey stones," whereas Brienne's eyes are blue and are described by Jaime as both "lively" and "astonishing." Meris has a "slit of a nose." Brienne's nose is wide and has been broken multiple times. Meris is earless, Brienne's ears are intact. No one ever mentioned freckles on Meris, but Brienne is covered in "a thousand freckles" according to Catelyn.

Rhaenys_Targaryen
Ehm.. despite all the obvious that has been pointed out by @Amoracchius very well, don't forget that Dance and Feast mostly occur simultaneously. Quentyn joining the Windblown occurred quite some time before Brienne's trial. Pretty Meris was with the Windblown, and no one can be at two places at once. ChillyPolly
Brienne is the last person I'd expect to succeed in disguise. She ought to be the first you'd expect to succeed in disguise. She's obviously set up for it. But not as another woman.
Skinchanging Sweetrobin
I guess Pretty Merris could be Ashara Dayne.
Steelborn
I guess Pretty Merris could be Ashara Dayne. Who is Septa Lemore, she just goes back and forth from Griffin's ship to Slaver's bay. Notice how she doesn't appear when Aegon set foot on Westeros.

Trivial details, all easily explained by the fact that Brienne is noted as being a master of disguise. Remember that Jaime could barely recognize her at Harrenhall when she was in that pink dress disguise.

Blackfyre Bastard
Meris is Brienne from the future. This is posted in another thread with another theory about Pretty Meris, but was also the first thing I thought when I read Meris description while re-reading ADwD. midi
Pretty Meris is Tyrion's first wife. Remember the story about how she was raped by half the members of some sellsword company... and what happened to Tyrion's wife again? :cool4: "Where do whores go?" - wonder no more. Buried Treasure
Meris is a former victim of the Brave Companions, but I don't think she has a significant backstory beyond that.
