WARNING Long and probably boring.

First night party

After posting here and just missing Lugalirra(sp) I searched in vain for BWBers on the fifth floor where all the convention bid parties were going on. I was about to pull my hair out when I ran into Maltaran at the Chicago party. He got the name "lost an hour ago" while I got "dangling partciple." You give your name to the door lady and she gives you some random thing. He said the BWB were on the Lanai deck so I went outside to find them but couldn't. After searching for a few more minutes I saw Maltaran again with a group of people I had just seen earlier. I just didn't recognize anyone.

Anyway, after finally finding the BWB, I saw Lodey who told me that the BWB had taken over the left half of the KC in 2009 Lanai suite. Between the Lanai suite and the Lanai deck I met a bunch of people including Luglirra, Mormont, StegoKing, Mr. X, Xray the Enforcer, Prod, Katran, Padraig. I saw Blackfyre Heir, Rhelle and dajamieson again as well as Bronn Stone and Veira (who I met at ComicCon).

The trivia contest came up in the suite and Blackfyre Heir said he would try it but that I should too. He was telling me I was going to do it. I said I'd give it a go. Later I discussed it with Mormont and Maltaran. I said we should have a prize for second since Ran is here.

We talked about screenames and Lugilirra's and what it meant. Apparently it is an Egyptian (edit: Sumerian) goddess that she studies. Mormont went over how he changed his screename twice and had to bring the old one back because of popular demand. He also gets a lot of people having similar variations on his screename. That brought up my sn and how it seems to be popular too. I said it's not so bad as when I was King Jon Targaryen and how I had to get grief all the time from people who don't believe Jon will be king. That launched a discussion of the books themselves and whether Jon will end up king (my old sn always does it!).

I saw Ran and mentioned we should have a prize for second place.

George was in the suite most of the time talking to different fans.

Padraig and I talked in general about conventions and buying books from dealers and such.

That's all I can remember though I'm sure more happened.

hi everyone. this is ro posting since I can't remember my pswrd. in the room right now is me caress ghost loady daj pod & skylark. we are eating, like you care. oh we are uitr drunk too. posting from my phone since we have been too drunk to set up the comp.

got in yesterday and met up with bunches of people. I accidently had a party in our room last night. we had a great time and it was sooo good to see old friends again.

con jokes so far that we can remember. dopper. and one duck. its running down my leg. spiderman (with a motion). guess a gasm. my tent. do you have nachos. do you have pat?

Sounds pretty tame so far

I was expecting something about the hotel going up in flames, several members of the BwB winding up in dubious LA strip bars ("We just came in for directions, honest!") and at least three deportations by now.

I accidently had a party in our room last night.

This could be the new BwB motto!

Tired. But better than yesterday. Greet time meeting everyone -- an excellent day, all around. Will be more coherent this evening, promise!

Reports on our first full day at the con tonight or tomorrow, depending on how late the partying goes. And pictures, yes, many many many pictures. We didn't bother last night, but we're striking back with a vengeance!

Quick report.

I went to George's SF Generation Gap panel which I will comment on later. There were a fair number of BWBers there including Mormont, Maid Sansa, Ran and Linda, quinyc, Fillipa, Maltaran, Gorgormosh Longspear (the legend), Katran I think, and a few others I can't place names to.

After the panel I decided to go back to my hotel room and write all the board member questions down since I don't have a printer. I took a short nap then left for the BWB meet and greet in the Hilton.

Lodengarl, Blackfyre Heir, Caress of Cersei, Ran and Linda made up the panel. Blackfyre Heir talked about our parties, Caress mentioned socializing even more outside the internet then abruptly passed off to Ran who mentioned the messageboard and Westeros and banning people. StegoKing made jokes about himself when that came up. Caress also talked about our bars. Her bar, Bronn's wine bar (Bronn got some applause) and Xray's Shadow Bar.

George came in a little late and eventually went up to the panel. He mentioned the trivia contest and pointed out daj who refused to stand up.

It's StegoKing's birthday today so everyone wish him a happy birthday.

A new fan asked George if he likes to talk about the books at parties and such. He said it feels like work to him (the panels, signings) so he doesn't like to talk about the books too much. Looks like my only chance to ask him questions is tomorrow morning guys.

George mentioned Padraig as the only one to attend all the conventions so he had to stand up, despite him pointing at a whole bunch of other people.

Parris told us all to have a good time, support the convention by volunteering and be safe. She told us to not ask questions about when the book will be done. George said he was the good cop and she was the bad one.

Dirji showed up in back.

That's all I can remember right now. I gotta go volunteer now and round up people for Medieval Times. Later.

Oh yeah, and based on my visit to the meet and greet, it wasn't a total sausage fest!!!!

Also - I could swear some europeans behind me actually had a case of MILLER HIGH LIFE I think... man I expected a lot better of them. At least get some corona or something guys. : (

Is it possible to do some video? Streaming video from the BwB con suite? Of BwB quests? Or big events like George knighting some courageous BwBers?

I am not technologically savvy so I have no idea how feasible this is. Maybe something to consider for future events.

I believe that the Con prohibits any 'broadcasts' from Con events. Whether or not this applies to our parties is another question.

But the truth is that I think the congoers would be wary of being 'recorded'. The photos can be edited or omitted if something untoward happens. But once it is caught on video....

I just spent about 1 hour and 15 minutes working on the poster for our party Saturday night with Blackfyre Heir. It should look splendiferous as it is artwork by Jaime Sims.

Now I'm off to Medieval Times.

Okay...I know the weekend is all about GRRM here abouts...but if ANY of you happen to have any info on what goes down with the Star Trek 40th tribute, I'd be grateful to hear it!

MEDIEVAAAAAAAAALLLL TIMESSSSS!!

So I drove Mich, boyfriend of Mich (sorry, forgot to get name), Mandy and LacyB to Medieval Times. I proceeded to get lost. I thought Mya said 91 East when she said 91 West. So after driving on east on the 91 until we almost got to a toll we turned around, hit traffic, but eventually made it to the Times.

As a group we all got placed in Yellow. I hung out a bit outside with Lugalirra, Mandy, Zollo, Mya and Stego until we were all called in.

The Chancellor proceeded to give us some instructions, yada yada until he got to who would go in first. Everyone started screaming their knight's color. Then the Chancellor says, "You didn't hear me. I said I would choose ... " Enter Stego: YELLLOWWWWW!!!. Everyone started screaming again. Finally he got down to seating us telling us yellow would certainly not be first.

Anyone who's been to Medieval Times knows what goes on next. There is some horse dancing, basically. They show all the equestrian tricks. A falconer comes out. They offer you a ride on the High Life, Miller High Life, to drink.

Then the knights come out and do all sorts of tourney exercies including riding at rings, throwing spears at targets and other sundry.

They announced the BWB when they announced groups and birthdays as well as Stego's birthday. We screamed and hollered for both.

There was a jousting and fight competition between the six knights. I don't want to spoil the story but I'll go into detail later if someone wants.

I sat away from the main BWB crowd with Sean, Ghosts Companion and Cuellar. I arrived late so Mandy and I got different tables. Mandy was able to sit in an empty chair. Ghosts Companion was gracious enough to sit with me so we wouldn't have a loner. Thanks Ghost.

Afterwards the highlights were someone (sorry!) eating a sword, pictures forthcoming from someone else. Zak forgot his furry porn book. I don't even know what that means really but he forgot his furry porn book.

Just a little update on what I saw last night.

Basically, after MT, I just hanged out on the Lanai deck, near Mich's room. I talked with Jonathan, a guy who has attended cons in the past and the BWB party but has not joined the board or really the BWB, about the books (what else do I talk about?) and conventions in general. I talked with Mandy about the board. Cuellar told me about Japan since he visited and I definitely want to go for Nippon. Mormont and I talked about a little philosophy. I quickly changed the subject as I was lost. Veira and I talked about the Human Chess Match. She is participating as a Highgarden pawn.

Basically, it was just hanging out, chatting, drinking, with little intermittent shouts of "Yellow!!" and "hey DaveAx" or "hey Race" etc as people stopped in or arrived.

Well, I'm off to get some makeshift breakfast and a good seat for the reading and Q+A. We know it's a chapter he's read before or we've seen before. I just hope it's not a chapter I've read before. We heard rumors of Jon 1. Anyway, off to my first GRRM reading. later all.
