Rant and Rave without Repercussion [Book Spoilers]

Recommended Posts

I feel like an annoying little kid when I talk to shownlies who loved the last scene; I just keep repeating "why?" ad nauseam.

That scene was the only thing I watched at first, I stopped watching the show in any usual way after episode 6, but I did turn it on in the last 15 minutes, because I love Dany and always wanted to see that.

I hated that the scene was poorly written and that all the relevance from the books was gone, that this is about her identity. They never went there with the direwolves and the Stark kids, either. It wasn't worth it.

It wouldn't be hard. People are starting to laugh at Game of Thrones.

Who? Last I checked, the general consensus was that GoT is a masterful television drama on the level of Breaking Bad and such (which is quite flattering for GoT...to think that someone actually believes that they are even in the same league is laughable alright).

Why did you stop watching?

If there is ever a masterful second attempt at adapting ASoIaF, it would be oh so wonderful to see it shame Game of Thrones.

I'm thinking of gather up some talented book purists and doing some fan outlines for S4 and 5. Maybe the odd script even. It'd be a bit of an undertaking but I need the therapy. And I think it'd be a lot of fun.

By the way, does anybody else think the Sons of the Harpy and the Faith Militant are the same guys? Gangs out for destruction just for the sake of it?

Which reminds me: Before I watched the episode, I watched Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange". Very, very odd book to adapt. Adapted perfectly, almost no line of dialogue changed from the original. And still totally it's own work of art. So I'll no longe have the excuse about adaptations having to make changes to the book because ... diffrent medium. BS ...

What was the overall consenus on Lost when that began to wane in quality (well... moreso than originally)? I really want GoT to have the same treatment is not worse because it deserves it. I mean, creatively it makes sense, because I want it to happen.

Why no go back to Season 2? Also, can I be there pretty please? I have an idea for adding an extra scene when adapting Theon I that is able to translate all of his brilliant internal monologue into actual dialogue in a context that may make sense.

Agreed. It was literally the one scene I was looking forward to the most in the entire series, and it was an absolute clusterfuck. Dany's arc is my favorite, and I really loved her stripping away her identity in the name of peace in Meereen, only to realize she is the blood of the dragon.

I said this further back in the thread, but I guarantee this is what the remainder of her story will be this season (if we see her): she wanders around a little bit, Drogon in the background. She eats the horse. The khalasar come. The end.

Kubrick isn't the best example for adaptions though - The Sentinel became 2001 with many changes made and Stephen King's The Shining was changed almost beyond recognition (but is still absolutely brilliant).

Are we assuming there is no "Harpy" now? Was Hizdar being fatally stabbed just a phenomenally committed double bluff?

I would be happy to contribute. I would like to write the Winterfell arc in ACoK (Bran/Theon chapters).

OK, but at the moment I don't really see a drop in popularity in the near future. Maybe if HBO wants to drag it out and make 9-10 seasons, but that's unlikely to happen.

Not even GOT has made me as miserable as Lost. Fuck that show.

Honestly I could go back to Season 1. Much as I loved season one it had unnecessary changes too. And some tonal differences from the source material. But that would be very time consuming. So I was thinking just the last two seasons would be more manageable.

I think it was supposed to come off as her giving up given the dire situation. Which misses the point of the scene from the books.

Dany had her brief moment of power when she decides all on her own to marry Hizzy and open the pits, but then after that it seems like shes helpless and being controlled by her enviornment. Then when all hope is lost she closes her eyes as if she was relieved its over. So much for the warrior dragon queen from the last few seasons. It's another example of characterization problems in this episode.

However it did read a bit like she used the "force" to call drogon. My gf who has not read the books immediately reacted to Drogons firey entrance saying "Sooooo...she can call him with her mind?!?!?!?"

To which I replied..."creatively it makes sense"

Haha. Love this. I went through the same process questioning that whole scene to my dog, who didn't respond.
