Rant & Rave without repercussion S 5/S 6 speculation continued [book and show spoilers]

It's total idiocy, disguised as a "necessary step" in order to propagate this bizarre plot.

Yes. Jeyne was forced to marry into an evil family and was brutally raped, and that's what happened to Fansa, outside the episode comments that she "chose" a "situation" she "thinks she’s going to guide" but she's "in deeper than she thinks she’s going to be" be damned. Pretending that was anything else means she's insane, but it's also incredibly offensive. They didn't even write a story to support the outside the episode nonsense.

The entire plot was nonsense, from start to finish. Myranda knew. In the books, Robb knew, Alys knew, Sansa knew, everyone with a brain knew. They all knew these women were brood mares who would be killed once they got an heir. Show Sansa would have known, too. No one sane would volunteer to be a Bolton brood mare, but someone whose family they killed, that would be hell on earth. And her family would be devastated.

You can't just swap a different character into a story like this, a main character at that, admittedly for shock factor, and change the basic circumstances that brought it about, making it her choice, painting her as a failed femme fatale, nor have it not forever alter that character. It's just piling offensiveness onto narrative nonsense.

Booksie quotes, Robb:

"Arya’s gone, the same as Bran and Rickon, and they’ll kill Sansa too once the dwarf gets a child from her."

Alys:

"Once Cregan gets a child by me they won’t need me anymore. He’s buried two wives already."

I just read a pretty good review of "The Hateful Eight"  (nb: I can't stand Quentin Tarantino's movies, or the man, tbh) at the Ebert site, where the critic notes Tarantino's setups feel hollow:

The in-depth conversations about the Civil War and capitalism and justice vs. frontier justice are superficially interesting, until you suspect they're not there to tie the film's characters to the American Character, but to set the stage for killings. The context of a nasty, brutish time gives the artist permission to be nasty and brutish.

That kind of sums up my feeling about the Ds' handling of sex, violence, and particularly sexual violence. It doesn't feel earned. I'm no delicate flower when it comes to gore, or to depictions of rape, but I just suspect their goal is simply shocking the audience (and to some extent pleasing the dudebros and the "perv" demographic), and that's not effective storytelling. Here's the critic again (spoilerfied for those intending to make Mr. Tarantino and Miramax richer):

Leigh's outlaw, the only woman, gets the worst of it, entering the film with a black eye, taking multiple fists to the face, and spending the final third of the film drenched in blood and missing a tooth. She doesn't wipe the blood off; this is presented as proof of her indomitability, but it plays like sheer provocation: Oh, I'm a misogynist, am I? Tough. Watch me leave the blood on her face, because I can. Like the nonstop barrage of racial slurs, the film's relentless and often comical violence against Daisy never feels truly earned. Saying, "Well, they're all outlaws, including her, and that's just how women were treated back then" feels like an awfully thin defense when you hear audiences whooping it up each time Russell punches Leigh in the face, and it dissipates during the final scene, which lingers on Daisy's death with near-pornographic fascination. In a movie filled with selfish, deceptive and murderous characters, hers is the only demise that is not just observed, but celebrated.

By the way, this movie was pirated and torrented all over the Internet; and news comes today that GoT was again the most pirated show. I suspect they're targeted at the same core audience.

So EW revealed a new still showing Bran's look in Season 6. I am shocked at all the attention Bran is getting in the promos for the season (first his voice at the end and now this) though I'm sure it won't reflect the amount of screentime he gets in the season.

As a Bran fan, I am very happy they got rid of the godawful wig. And Isaac is of course adorable and will get lots of fangirls probably. But all this excitement is greatly mitigated when I remember what show he's on... and who is in charge... So that is my rant for the day. The fact that seeing your favorite character on screen is ruined when you remember the shitshow that is GoT.

I will completely get nuts if Summer will get the same screen time with Bran as Ghost Rover did with Jon.

The only good thing about season 5 was I did not saw Bran being destroyed but then ... they already killed Jojen.

That is a very interesting observation.  Yeah, Tarantino has worn on me, by the way.  Coincidentally, I was thinking of Tim Roth's turn in Pulp Fiction earlier today, LOL, in a totally unrelated matter.

We'll have to call Summer "Spot"!

I like the name Spot.

Here is that darling by the way (I could not resist it - Bran and Isaac are also darlings ^_^ of course)

Oooh, look at that cute little baby. And the kid is cute too.

BABY BRAN! That is my name for him at this stage because he is tall as a tree now with a voice as deep as a cave ;) (I'll see myself out)

I wonder what this could mean for Bloodraven... the Three Eyed CROW. I have become slightly obsessed with BR recently and wonder if this will get in to book territory. Not that I am too worried about it because the book source will still be 1000 times better than this fanfiction.

Ok. Need to rant a little...

now that I have had time to read more about the season 6 stuff that is out today and all of the comments on other sights that praise the return of, and I quote, "tits and blood", I am convinced that the last good thing the show did was to cast Roy Dotrice as the pyromancer back in season 2 (2?).

"My order does not deal in pigshit".

I could listen to that man read a box of cereal and could get totally mesmerized. That includes the leprechaun voice he uses for Arya and Danerys.

I actually think Ned was really annoyed at that moment at his oldest "sons". Why the hell did you let Bran hold this pup? Now I have no choice anymore than bring them back home, especially when Jon said to Bran: "do you want to hold it?" This is all your fault, Jon and Robb!

(People forget this but I believe it was actually Robb who found them first, who was cradling little Grey Wind?, who encouraged Bran to touch them, who said as first they were going to keep the pups and who argued first it was possible to keep them. But this does not of course happens in the series).

Should the pups actually not be called cubs because they are wolves? :D

I'm liking it, Summer Spot, is he gonna be Bloodraven's doggie??

Thanks. :D

I actually think Spotty will be Leaf's of Meera's. I mean BR is stuck to his tree. It is not like he can do much with Spot. However he can still warg him ... but that would be a real sacrilege IMO. :crying:

He'd better not be Leaf's: "Hey, Spot, catch this flaming ball!"

LHAO. Poor Spot. That fireball would really hurt him.

No, I was thinking about how much background they would give to BR. While BR is still a large mystery to us, we know something about his history. But telling this to the audience makes no sense because they never told us earlier something about his brothers, ... The only thing that connects him in the show to something/somebody else, is maester Aemon and by extension  Dany. So they actually only can say about him he was the great-uncle of Aemon. It would be waste of time to tell the audience about his life as the Hand, Blackfyres, ... now fAegon and JonCon do not exist. (Nevertheless I am also obsessed by BR's history so I wouldn't really mind personally)

I mean they even not managed to clarify a lot about Robert's rebellion and Jon's parentage.

(OT: The Belgian authorities managed to stop a terrorist attack that was supposed to happen in Brussels on Old Year's Eve - similar to Paris)

No, Spot can't be Leaf's doggie! Run away!!!

Maybe Meera. If they bring her back. They don't really need her, they can just have Batfinger tell her stories.
