Funniest quote of the saga

Recommended Posts

What is in your opinion the most hilarious quote of all times in the saga ?

Mine would be this gem by Tyrion:

"I'm sure I don't know. That fool Eddard Stark accused me of the same thing. He hinted that Lord Arryn suspected or . . . well, believed . . . "

"That you were fucking our sweet Jaime?"

She slapped him.

"Did you think I was as blind as Father?" Tyrion rubbed his cheek. "Who you lie with is no matter to me . . . although it doesn't seem quite just that you should open your legs for one brother and not the other."

She slapped him.

"Be gentle, Cersei, I'm only jesting with you. If truth be told, I'd sooner have a nice whore. I never understood what Jaime saw in you, apart from his own reflection."

She slapped him.

I find Renly's quotes during the parley quite amusing.

Quote

Stannis studied her, unsmiling. "The Iron Throne is mine by rights. All those who deny that are my foes."

"The whole of the realm denies it, brother," said Renly. "Old men deny it with their death rattle, and unborn children deny it in their mothers' wombs. They deny it in Dorne and they deny it on the Wall. No one wants you for their king. Sorry."

It's the 'Sorry' at the end that gets me.

Also, the bit where Jon taunts Ser Alliser.

Quote

Alliser Thorne overheard him. "Lord Snow wants to take my place now." He sneered. "I'd have an easier time teaching a wolf to juggle than you will training this aurochs."

"I'll take that wager, Ser Alliser," Jon said. "I'd love to see Ghost juggle."

Jon heard Grenn suck in his breath, shocked. Silence fell.

To me, the most amusing part of the parley was Stannis basically telling Renly "u gay" like a 12 year old.

I didn't find that bit as funny because it came off as a weak insult. Renly didn't seem bothered at all. I think he had the upper hand with the insults since Stannis loses his cool first and gets so annoyed his draws his sword. My man replies with a peach.

For me, as individuals, Stannis with his dry wit humor is the funniest character followed closely by Tormund and his tall tales. As part of a group, Jon and Val are, especially when the previous two are involved.

Stannis has a few funny lines but I think Tyrion and Renly have better quips. Jon I agree with. Tormund I also find funny in an immature sort of way.

Tyrion is funny too and Renly as well but I find Stannis funnier because I like deadpan humor better.

I don't mind the deadpan stuff it's just not my fave.

Jon gets funny sometimes but as an individual, I find Tyrion to be funnier than Jon. When he's interacting with Stannis or Val and Tormund, Jon gets a whole lot funnier. Val as well.

Tyrion is not afraid to make jokes but Jon sometimes is too serious.

Tyrion has a number of lines that still make me chuckle, even after many rereadings.  But the only one I can think of offhand is:

"Tell him it's even better luck to suck a dwarf's cock."

Renly & the peach! I love it. Seriously one of my favorite parts of the books. It vexes poor Stannis.

"Renly offered me a peach. At our parley. Mocked me, defied me, threatened me, and offered me a peach. I thought he was drawing a blade and went for mine own. Was that his purpose, to make me show fear? Or was it one of his pointless jests? When he spoke of how sweet the peach was, did his words have some hidden meaning? Only Renly could vex me with a piece of fruit. He brought his doom on himself with his treason, but I did love him, Davos. I know that now. I swear, I will go to my grave thinking of my brother’s peach."

Renly laffig at Joff about Arya at the Ruby Ford:

Quote

When she got to the part where she threw Joffrey's sword into the middle of the Trident, Renly Baratheon began to laugh. The king bristled. "Ser Barristan, escort my brother from the hall before he chokes."
Lord Renly stifled his laughter. "My brother is too kind. I can find the door myself." He bowed to Joffrey. "Perchance later you'll tell me how a nine-year-old girl the size of a wet rat managed to disarm you with a broom handle and throw your sword in the river." As the door swung shut behind him, Ned heard him say, "Lion's Tooth," and guffaw once more.

Gotta admit that my love of Renly started with this scene.

But Stannis has some of the best lines.

"Her own father got this child on her? We are well rid of her, then. I will not suffer such abominations here. This is not King's Landing."
