Also, Lost fans, lets face it

Series finale spoilers...

Spoiler

It always pissed me off that Sayid is with Shannon when the group goes to The Great Beyond.  It's like...dude, you spent YEARS searching for Nadia, and even after you got off the island you MARRIED Nadia.  It seems like the showrunners were just trying to shoehorn Maggie Grace back into the finale - which they actually complain about the difficulty in doing so in the episode, and I really don't get why.  No one cared that much about Maggie Grace and/or Shannon.

Rewatching Gangs of New York.  I think if I ever wanted to be lazy and play a movie to my Intro to American Government class, that would be my choice.  (Well, the obvious answer is All the President's Men, but meh.)  It is a very insightful study on Americana.  Of course, I could never do so in this day and age due to all the racial slurs.  But...

This is a night for America!!!!

Gangs of New York

One of the best.  There's a long list of Scorsese films that make quite a history of NYC, which includes Age of Innocence. Like many others I was initially puzzled by his choice to make a film of an Edith Wharton novel, but eventually figured it out once Gangs of New York was released.  That man loves this city.

Yeah, it's excellent. There are so many memorable scenes. It was oddly touching when Bill gives Amsterdam a piece of meat to put on his face after a well done fight scene.

Personally I'd show them Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, but I know that's a corny choice.

Scorsese's films may have been brutally honest about NYC, but you can tell how much he still loves it.  I know he just got his standing ovation at Cannes, but the city owes him a debt of gratitude for continuing to breathe life into it through his genius lens.

Man that's even lamer than my lame suggestion.  Albeit I do always mention it when I'm trying to explain the filibuster.

Well that's kind of the point. Mr. Smith is lame, naïve and doesn't realize why it's going to screw him over when he's entering a den of cutthroats.

Yeah I'm just saying the movie is still lame and not particularly informative nor realistic.  I'd say it's Capra-esque, but you don't even need the esque.

He is most definitely honored here, particularly through all the city subsidies that are around De Niro's TrIbeca Enterprises.  I've attended quite a few events where he was the featured speaker -- with his posse natch, which includes De Niro.

Never heard of this, but it sounds interesting enough. Might check it out later.

This is one of my favourite movies of all time. Fucking brilliant stuff. Sean Pertwee basically steals the show, and there's an evil Ser Davos.

Currently vacillating between rewatching The World is Not Enough, maybe my favorite Bond movie, and watching (for the first time) No Time to Die.

Anybody got a snap-recommendation between the two? Craig is a great Bond, no doubt about it. And I am one of the few people on earth who seemed to enjoy Quantum of Solace, but Spectre was pretty disappointing. Not a bad movie, but y'know...

Casino Royale - 10/10

Quantum of Solace - 7/10 (that's a perfectly good score on my scale, because...)

Spectre - 5/10 (Average. Just a movie. Not really memorable in any way except for the Dr. King Schultz torture scene. It wasn't a bad movie, just a movie.)

So, anyway, any Bond aficionados lurking to give me a quick recommendation?

I'll give it a go in a bit, just depends on how the basketball game fairs.

The World is Not Enough is one of the worst ones in my book. No Time to Die is also terrible.

Funny you mention QoS. It's not as bad as people say, but you have to watch it right after CR. The title comes from a short story of a governor telling Bond not to be so glib about romance.

I'd recommend going with one of the older films, just not anything Moore did unless you're here for the campiness. Stick to the ones actually based on the books. One of the few I don't think I've ever truly seen is The Man With the Golden Gun, which is what I'm reading at the moment.

Richards was so bad in it (whereas I think she was really good in Wild Things, and not because of the sex scene).

Never seen Wild Things, but I'll concede the point.

"I'm a nuhk-you-lar phys-ed-iscist"

Her talents were much better utilized by my man Verhoeven.

Speaking of Verhoeven, I once described Hollow Man (another fave) to an acquaintance as follows:

"You like seeing Kevin Bacon in movies right? Well, imagine you couldn't see him at all!"

It's worth watching. Sometimes it gets reduced down to having a famous sex scene, but the movie is a lot of fun. It's a cheesy crime thriller.

Neve Campbell had a pretty good run in mid-late 90’s with The CraftScream, Scream 2, and Wild Things. I like all of them anyway.

I'll always have a crush on her, so that shades how I view her, but Imo she's a great example of an actor who has been in bad movies, but isn't ever the reason why they're bad. The ones you listed though are all great. One of my step-brothers would watch The Craft all the time. Frankly all the young actors did a great job in the film. The lead might be the weakest of them.
