chongjasmine
I like to play rpg games, but prefer the graphics to be 2d. Any recommendations?
Wilbur
Richard Garriott's Ultima games are just the ticket to your request. From Akalabeth through to the Ultima Online MMO RPG, the game evolves tremendously, and you can probably find a favorite. Most of the games (though not all) are available to play, either via an emulator for the first six, or just straight download. The circle of dragons ought to point the way to whatever you need in terms of resources. Example from Ultima III: mellyporter and Tongue Stuck to Wall
Rhom
That’s a bit of a broad question… Are you looking for JRPGs? CRPGs? Classics? Modern? Youve got the classic Ultima recs for an old school CRPG. On the other end of the spectrum, I have really enjoyed both Chained Echoes and Octopath Traveler 2 as great examples of modern 2d JRPGs. Werthead
For recent games, Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous, Disco Elysium, the Shadowrun Returns trilogy (Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall and Hong Kong), Torment: Tides of Numenera, Tyranny, Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire are all decent 2D RPGs. For older stuff, Baldur's Gate I and II (but not III, which is full 3D), Icewind Dale I and II and Planescape: Torment are all pretty good, and most of them got recent re-releases. Wilbur
You might also look at xu4, which is a replica of Ultima IV that has been ported to run on Linux and contemporary versions of Windows. xu4 - Ultima IV Recreated (sourceforge.net) No need to run an emulator, just download it and play. Last week I tried to play in the casino for the first time, and I loved it! The games are really cool, especially slots, and now I play them pretty often. I can recommend this site where you can read about pay by phone casinos and it will help you to choose one to try. My favorite one for now is VegasParadise Casino and there are some cool games. But there is info about others so that you can read, compare, and play the one you like the most. I've heard a lot about Ultima games, but I'm not that into gaming so tried them for the first time just last month. And I really liked them. Arakasi
If you want true 2d the remakes of the FF games (2&3) are definitely worth it. I think you can get those on switch.

The Star Ocean 2 Remake has been fantastic as well. Its more of an action RPG, but still fits the 2d mold.
Maithanet
I wholeheartedly recommend Castlevania Symphony of the Night as a really fun side scrolling RPG. It was originally on PS1. The guy who made it came out with a sequel (outside the castlevania property, but it's definitely a sequel) called Bloodstained Ritual of the Night in 2019. It is also good, and the graphics are obviously better. Still 2d though. Rhom
Arakasi
Also FFT and it’s sequels as well as tactics ogre reborn are both great rpgs as well leaning into the strategy side but still with great stories.
