Dragon Age: Origins: Thread III [some SPOILERS]

I'm curious - do you have an item/gift that you keep for yourself? A lucky charm/talisman that you keep with you even though it's worthless?

I found myself overly fond of the "Painted Skyball" - an orb that is painted to look like the night sky, with constellations in all the right places.

I don't know why, but I keep it with me - even if my pack is bursting at the seams with sellables. I only gave it as a gift once, and I immediately regretted it.

I don't even remember where I got it, :\

One of the items I always keep, on my 4th play through now, is Lelliana's chantry robe. For some reason it just seems appropriate that she wears it when she is in camp.

From a gifts perspective I usually keep the antivan boots and dailish gloves that Zevran likes, I dont know I just dont like to give him gifts. I guess I just dont like that character.

Tobin & Odie have I got news for you.

Free Love

Quoted from the addon in the link:

Details

=======

This AddIn will trick Allistair into thinking the player is a Female, regardless of actual gender. It will also trick Morrigan into thinking the player is a Male regardless of actual gender. The player's actual gender does not change, and interaction with all other characetrs in the world remains as normal. They will all see your normal gender. Only Allistair and Morrigan are affected by this spell.

I heard about that. The thoughts of a female PC... crap, Davos says the spoiler tag doesn't work on here yet.

Lets just say that the end game has the potential to be f-ed up like whoa if you played that game.

If I'm going to romance Morrigan, I'm just going to play as a male PC. Simple as that. Being able to fuck everyone in the game in any possible incarnation just isn't that interesting to me.

You're not tempted to be the Siegfreid to Alistair's Roy?

This is one of the most addictive games I've played recently. Did two full play-throughs back to back since getting the game, as well as playing each of the origin stories. Absolutely loved the characters. They seem like the best fleshed out cast of characters in a game of this type. Well, except for the Dog. It didn't do much.

Got my 1100/1100 achievement points on the 360 version, so I'll be giving it a break until more DLC is released.

Nooooo thanks. There would be no tigers. What would be the point? :P

I'm not saying the mod is wrong, but it's just too canon-breaking for me to play with a gay Alistair. If it floats other people's boats though, more power to them.

Besides, we're XBox-icly challenged.

I've held on to the Warden's necklace that you get right near the beginning of the game. I have better stuff now, but I think my PC would hold on to it as symbolic.

How the hell did you manage that? Don't you have to reach level 20 in three different classes as well as learning every mage spell, rogue, warrior and weapon talent to complete all the achievements? Plus I'm not sure if you can get "all possible endings" in just two tries. Or are the 360 achievements that different from the PC version?

Not that I really care, but the completionist in me is sorely tempted to try to get them all...

I personally just cheated slightly to get all the mage spells option by using the infinite exp glitch to level my mage to level 20 take all spells in a school the reload to an ealier save and do it again for the other schools. I will continue my mage playthrough from before then so I can put spells where i choose not forced to have all of oene school. - this is my 4th playthrough having done Dwarf Commenor, Human Noble (favourite so far) and Dalish Elf (worst by far).

I've done the Dalish Elf prologue twice now (once before computer format once after) and I've yet to kill those humans or find out about what happened to the parents, is it at all possible to find out what happened to the parents.

Used a cheat to level up my Mage. On the quest where you go to get the blood vials, return to Duncan without doing the second part of the quest. You can talk to him over and over, and you'll get free XP. Takes a little while, but it is a quick way to reach level 20.

Haven't taken advantage of any glitches on the 360 yet but I started a new play through and just before I got to the Grey Warden ritual I stripped the other recruits of everything they had, but then felt silly with Alistair and my new character standing next to them in full raiment... so I stripped Alistair and my character down to small clothes too.

I don't know if Bioware had foreseen this possibility and chose not to have Duncan respond differently because he was straight as a die at the start of the ritual. My only regret was that I skipped the remaining dialogue and so didn't see if...

Grey Warden ritual outcome...

Duncan kills an unarmed Ser Jory.

Will have to pay attention to this with the next character.

Grey Warden ritual outcome...

The game gives him a sword no matter what. I'm also pretty sure you get all their stuff anyway, but I haven't checked (it's not worth much in any case, except to have a full set of leather armour for Leliana).

God, I swear games like these hate me or something. I always find really good shit that my character can't use. It's like, "Oh gee, thanks, I guess I'll just upgrade all my party-members to the max and run around in one of the starter armours myself". And I just know that if I start another character that should be using medium and heavy armours, all I will find is light armour. :frown5:

Also I am not terribly keen on this principle of unlocking the specialisations. I've been saving my first specialisation-point for three levels now, which theoretically means I could've been three talents deep into my specialisation tree already. At least I know where I can go to get the specialisation I want (Duellist, rogue), but I don't want to be travelling all over the world just to pick that up so I'm waiting for my questing to take me where I need to go. At least it'll all be unlocked permanently for subsequent playthroughs.

The best (i.e. named) stuff in the game is found in fixed locations, not as random drops. The generic armour sets are easily assembled from random loot and merchants, but once you've left Lothering you're unlikely to be bothering with anything but the really powerful items anyway.

Unlocking specialisations is a bit annoying. If it at least had any impact on the game besides giving you a few more talents to choose from it would be slightly better. But nobody cares if you're a Bloodmage, you can even turn goody two-shoes Wynne into one without that having any further consequences. The implementation is a bit half-arsed.

So far I've been to the Brecilian forest and to Redcliffe, and I only have a hardened Dalish leather armour to show for it (along with some other Dalish armour items). Most of the named stuff I've found have been medium and heavy armours (and some weapons), which does me no good, except to pimp out Alistair and Sten. I guess I'll just have to hope for better stuff for a rogue later on.

And that's fairly disappointing about specialisations. Bloodmages are described everywhere as being outcasts and whatnot, so I would've expected to be treated differently if I played as one (some people refusing to help you, you not being able to persuade some people, you having an easier time intimidating people etc.), likewise with the assassin. A shame, really. If the DA toolset is anything like the NWN toolset, it would be trivial to make the world react to your character based on things like that, so I'm surprised Bioware didn't take the opportunity to do that. It's little stuff like that that makes a game memorable (and adds replay value).

There is a couple of decent mage armour scattered around the circle if I remember correctly, through Morrigans best armour is gained through her quest line.

Oh and for a fyi, each character has two special gifts, like Alisters mothers locket, or for Morrigan its her mothers book and a mirror.

A full set of Dalish armour (for the set bonus) is pretty good mid-level light armour. I think the only ones that are really above it are the superior drakeskin and superior dragonskin armours (for which you first have to kill some drakes/dragons and then pay the armoursmith in Denerim extra money).

ETA: Said armoursmith also sells light armour of higher tiers, might be worth a look (set boni work across tiers btw).
