Hi, I do sometimes have too much time on my hands and I must keep myself amused....... For Example this quote from To Kill a Mockingbird... Atticus Finch: If you just learn a single trick,Scout, you`ll get along a lot better with all kind of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his Point Of View...until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it....To me this could sound alot like the Boltons...You get the picture Do you have a quote that could be similar and applied to a character from ASoIaF? Jon,Robb etc,etc...Have fun

These are lyrics, but they apply really well if R+L=J. From "Some Nights" by Fun.

"My heart is breaking for my sister and the con that she called love

When I look into my nephew's eyes,

Man, you wouldn't believe the most amazing things that can come from,

Some terrible lies"

Nice

"Burn baby burn!" from song by The Trammps could describe Aerys

This concept fits with the Faceless Men as well, I think.

I like this song, and yes it's good to describe Jon if R+L=J.

This is my song for Theon:

So little time

Try to understand that I'm

Trying to make a move just to stay in the game

I try to stay awake and remember my name

But everybody's changing

And I don't feel the same

- From Dexter (can be a Tywin-to-Jaime quote)

In the land of predators, a lion never fears the jackal.

- From Why Are They Laughing In Those Cages? (to describe Lord Commander Jon Snow?)

The real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of being an honest coward like everybody else. If it had been possible he would have settled the matter otherwise, and without bloodshed. He doesn't boast of his own death or of others'. But he does not repent. He suffers and keeps his mouth shut; if anything, others then exploit him, making him a myth, while he, the man worthy of esteem, was only a poor creature who reacted with dignity and courage in an event bigger than he was.

- From The Name of the Rose (seems something Varys would say to Tyrion, and could vaguely describe Ned/the turn of events after the Jaime-Cersei incest was discovered)

Fear prophets, Adso, and those prepared to die for the truth, for as a rule they make many others die with them, often before them, at times instead of them.

  • How about the opening monologue from Richard the Third? It can be applied to LF, who after the nd of Robert's Rebellion emerged as a villain because he lost the love of his life to tall. sexy men like Brandon and Ned.
  • From Aegeus, a lost tragedy of Euripides: A bad beginning makes a bad ending : Robert and Cersei's marriage
  • From another lost tragedy of Sophocles: All a man's affairs become diseased when he wishes to cure evils by evils. I think it fits Tywin.
  • You would rouse to anger a heart of stone. From Sophocles' tragedy Oedipus Colonus. Fits Walder Frey and LS.
  • trust dies but mistrust blossoms. another quote from Sophocles that sumarises life in KL.
  • My tongue swore but my mind was still umpledged. From Euripides' tragedy Hippolytus, similar to Jaime's oath to protect Aeys.
  • Isn't it the sweetest mockery to mock our enemies? Sophocles from the tragedy Ajax. Basically what Jaime Lannister does all the time.
  • Better to fail with honor than succeed by fraud. Sophocles summarising Ned Stark.

Funny, that very monologue has always reminded me of Tyrion in ADWD

But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks

Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;

I, that am rudely stamped, and want love's majesty

To strut before a wanton ambling nymph;

I, that am curtailed of this fair proportion,

Cheated of feature by dissembling Nature,

Deformed, unfinished, sent before my time

Into this breathing world, scarce half made up,

And that so lamely and unfashionable

That dogs bark at me as I halt by them--

Why I, in this weak piping time of peace,

Have no delight to pass away the time,

Unless to see my shadow in the sun

And descant on mine own deformity.

And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover

To entertain these fair well-spoken days,

I am determined to prove a villain

And hate the idle pleasures of these days.

Ι was seriously tempted to add Tyrion as well and he seems to fit Richard perfectly. Highborn, deformed, spurned by women but Tyrion unlike Richard or LF still loved Jaime and tried to do anything to look after him. Both brothers are redeemed though their love for each other. No matter how much LF was in love with Cat, he harmed her and her family. LF is an indisputable villain for me.
