Why Cast 'Adult' Actresses?

A lot of actresses use body doubles for nude scenes. Casting porn stars for roles that exist mainly for the sole sake of being nude cuts out the middleman, I guess.

It's to do with people who won't have fussy no-nudity clauses if they wind up featuring as sexy ornamentation. I'd imagine a lot of the main actresses are problematic with nudity enough. Anyway, occasionally you do get adult entertainers who actually can act.

Try "Why are HBO forsaking talent for skin?" Sure they put skin in most of their shows but not usually at the expense of quality story. Boardwalk Empire has Gretchen Mol, who is a good actress, showing some skin, Anna Paquin has an Oscar and Polly Walker was great in Rome.

I don't see the problem...they're really only casting porn stars to do parts as extras and background characters anyway.

Like it's been said before Shae's actress started in porn...but shes been in the acting business for a while now.

But the thing is, her performance has in my opinion (and the opinions of many others) been none-to-good. I don't want to be disrespectful to her so that's all I'll say on her abilities. Personally I don't think this has anything to do with her being a porn star however.

That is a valid criticism, but the reason I mentioned her credentials is because I remember reading dismissive comments based on the previous career.

I don't think all adult actresses are "porn stars". I could be wrong but I don't think the GoT adult actresses are the Meryl Streep of porn, so they're probably not that expensive, or else, like you said, they'd just hire someone who doesn't mind getting naked, especially in silent roles. And if they're adult actresses who want to make the jump to "regular" acting, they're probably not overly demanding in terms of pay.

From what I have read about what Sasha Grey gets just for a talkshow appearence for instance, it's ridicolous.

And there is no TV mainstream actress in the whole GoT cast... except Lena Heady maybe.

I think Sasha Grey's pretty big compared to the silent whore on Bronn's lap. I've only seen her on Entourage but I guess if they got her that means she's big.

I mean it's the same for porn stars as it is for "normal" actors. I'm sure Sean Bean gets more from talkshows than Hot Pie, and yet they're both TV actors. Porn stars are no different I suppose.

and the premise of the OP and many of the posts is a little off.

she is German of Turkish origin. She did some porn when young, under a stage name (of course), then somewhat unexpectedly got a break as a legit actress and made some good films and got good reviews from critics in Germany. then a tabloid found out about the porn and outed her. big scandal supposedly, but her career has continued. I get the impression all this happened years ago, and was old news by the time she was cast for GOT.

I think Sibelli is quite a good actress. I think she has created a realistic believable character. Too many people think that only over-acting is "good" acting.

Pretty much all of this... casting calls are put out and people come to audition. I doubt they specifically limited the casting to only people in the 'adult' industry but rather, people in the adult industry are more likely to audition. If the casting director thought these people can portray the character then I really don't see how their background, acting or otherwise, should have anything to do with it.

That's pretty much the way that it's going to go. When there's a casting call for a role that requires little to no lines but to be naked pretty much the entire time on screen and simulating sexual acts...

Plus they get to work with people like Peter Dinklage etc. maybe just for a short scene, maybe they just meet them on set but still it counts for something right? The adult film stars are also anxious to work with eachother even so yeah I'll claim it counts for something.

This. Those porn starlets would probably have been willing to work for food and lodging in the hope of kickstarting a "genuine" acting career.

I am pretty surprised she accepted the role, after all she went to court in Germany to stop the newspapers from constantly bringing up her past in pornography when her acting career took off. She won, too, which I find a bit ridiculous.
