Things I Don't Understand About Highlander

Couple of things.

Why bother trying to kill each other, why not team up and take over the world. Spend internity as total overlords of planet earth.

Secondly, you must have noticed how as you get older time seems to speed up. Now imagine being 3000 yrs old, a year would feel like a day. So the big prize is getting to live a normal lifespan, bit of an anti-climax if it only feels like 3 days.

There you go thinking again.

I always loved the Highlander movie. Heck I even enjoyed the tv show when I watched it. The issue for me is that it was a great idea that really didn't go anywhere. They were never able to happily explain why these people were like that and why they were fighting.

Overall though, kick ass concept, who wouldn't want to live forever and sword fight throughout history?

I felt the TV show was the only "sequel" that "worked". If it was viewed as a "what if?" parallel thing (a bit like SG-1 and Buffy) but it made a kind of sense and elaborated on the fight for the prize a lot more. The concept of the watchers was also pretty good.

I still thought the point of the prize was that you could have whatever you wanted? I can't see the Kurgan actually fighting to ensure a quick death? I mean if you're that fed up with immortality why not just go find a guillotine and save everyone the bother?

Ah, I always thought the prize, was a normal lifespan. An that immortality wasn't that great because everyone you cared about got old and died.

Though being able to choose your prize would be great. I'd choose to make other people immortal, so we could take over the world.

Stargate was an okay film. Buffy wasn't.

I haven't seen the movie in a long time but wasn't the prize a choice between being the all powerful ruler of the world or becoming a mortal?

I liked Stargate and while the SG-1 universe did drift far away from the original movie I like how well the continuity was set up between the film and the first season, having many of the same characters played by different actors and even having some of the same actors who played minor characters reprise their roles in the series. The main divergence between the movie and series was Abidos in the movie was on the other side of the galaxy and in the series it became one of the closest worlds to Earth the Stargatge went to, aside from that the movie fits really well in the SG-1 universe, there was just a whole lot of new information, new discoveries, new theories heaped onto it as the series progressed.

Think Highlander universe is confusing? Just wait until the reboot* gets made. ;)

As an aside, the last HL movie (The Source) did something I never dreamed was possible. It made Highlander 2 not the worst movie in the history of film.

That is all.

*Yes, I honestly am crossing my fingers for a Casino Royale or Batman Begins level of reboot, even though it'll never happen.

What the heck are you talking about?

(If you don't stay in denial, that means it really happened...and then the terrorists win!/sotto voce)

No. The Prize is only tangentially mentioned in the very last scene. It seemed to give him the ability to hear and understand the thoughts of everyone on earth, with the implication that he would use that power to help people and make world peace and shit.

Also, I think it did make him mortal and able to have children as well.

Thats a crappy prize. I suspect most people are thinking of food / sex /chaffing underwear or other mundane stuff.

I know there have been rumors for a while, but it looks like there might be one in development for 2014.

The director of the recent Fast and the Furious movie was attached for awhile, but he just exited. According to this, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is in talks/rumored/etc to direct. 28 Days Later was really good, so yes, I'm still crossing my fingers for a decent HL flick. :)

You know Highlander would be perfect for a gritty reboot. We got a campy yet beloved original, brand recognition, several bad squeals, and a plot that has a lot of room for development. The above list could apply to the Batman franchise pre-nolan.

Of course it also could apply to Planet of the Apes pre Burton....

Its beeing written by the person or wrote the Twilight Movies...

Its going to be worse than if they made a sequel where immortals were aliens sent to earth to patch the ozone layer.

That's just crazy talk. No one would make, or even has made, a movie that bad.

I know, that sounds so bad I don't think even Sy-Fy Channel (throwing up in mouth a little) would produce schlock like that as one of their original movies, and Sy-Fy orignial movies are all about schlock.

I got to give Race credit though, if there was a contest for worst idea for a movie ever, he'd win it hands down. You got some imagination, try using it for good though!
