johndance
Because mine aren't and I just realized how crazy this this. Visenya Targaryen might be my favorite character in all of asoiaf. This blurb from asoiaf wiki:"Visenya was both stern and sensual, more voluptuous than her sister, more passionate, but with a dark and unforgiving side. Even those who loved her best found her stern, serious and unforgiving. She was a warrior, more comfortable in ringmail than in silk, she was apt to dress as a warrior, with her long silver-gold hair in braided coils or bound in rings.[2] She wielded the Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister. She was described as having a "harsh beauty" and was reputed to have dabbled in sorcery. While her sister Rhaenys was the flirt, Visenya was the seductress. She rode her dragon, Vhagar, to battle."So we have a cunning, seductive Targaryen. She was a warrior, practice sorcery, wielded Dark Sister, and had maybe the 2nd most badass dragon ever. I'll take Visenya over anyone else...
Lady Blizzardborn
My favorites thus far are all in the books. I like historical characters too but I know the book characters.

Make Shadowbabies Not War
My favourite characters (Davos, Sansa amd Jon) are in the books, but I feel that had we been given able to follow some of the characters that I read in the world book in the same way as in the main series this would change. For example, I would have loved to have read a book on Robar Royce attempting to defeat the Andals. He seemed like a strong, cunning, inspirational hero (even if he did lose). Guess who's back
So your favorite character is the one we know nothing about? And that one paragraph made her your favorite? lmao

And that one paragraph made her your favorite? lmao To be fair to the OP, we learned a bit about Visenya in the world book and she seems to be a pretty great character. That said, I agree it is hard to truly get behind a character you don't have that much interaction with. Like I said above, had we gotten a whole book on some of these characters (in this context Aegon's conquest) Visenya does seem like a person who would be well liked by the fan base. Qhorin Halfhand and Yoren
My favorite character in all of ASOIAF is Ros from the tv series Game of Thrones. If only GRRM was able to create such a masterful and complex character.

The Visenya we know from TWOAIF absolutely does not seem to be "sensual", "voluptuous" or "passionate" and doesn't seem to have been a "seductress" at all. If anything, she comes off as possibly asexual. Where does that blurb come from, comic cons and SSMs? GRRM often changes his mind. ASOAIF wiki is not a terribly reliable source on historical characters and badly needs to be updated.

Sensual, I couldn't say. I'm withholding TWOIAF from myself until I finish writing the first draft of my latest novel. But that does seem to sound a bit more like Rhaenys. Isgrimner
If your favorite character is not one of the ones from the books, I feel you would be projecting too much. Info on those characters is limited, and even the world book info is written as if it came from the Maesters of the Citadel, so you should let that factor in too. I tend to mostly like POV characters the best, because that is who you get to know the best. However there are some non-POVs that I would like to know more about too as they seem quite interesting. Isobel Harper
Does Dunk count? :agree: Dunk and Egg are two of my favorite characters as well. Good Guy Garlan
I don't think I'll never understand this, to be honest. Most of the historical characters have like a paragraph devoted to them and people still prefer them over Arya, Jaime, Theon, Sansa, etc?

Most of the historical characters have like a paragraph devoted to them and people still prefer them over Arya, Jaime, Theon, Sansa, etc? Very much so, and it spills over into what long-dead warriors could defeat what other long-dead warriors, without any evidence.
The Santa of House Claus
Well my favorite character is no longer in the books as is to often the case with GRRM, Robb Stark, but there are some historical characters I like, Creagan Stark who served as Hand for a day. Arthur Dayne, Nymeriria, and there are others.
