All of the hard work you put into the yard/garden and fixing up the basement will really help.

Are you able to meet with a different financial institution for a second shot at a refi? There might be special opportunities for veterans. Maybe you can use that to your advantage?

How is subbing going? I'm going on a field trip tomorrow to watch over the diabetic student. Little nervous about being around 100 4th graders :uhoh:

We were trying for a VA Loan, the easiest to get :(

Our income is just too low, and with summer coming on, they wouldn't count mine. It sucks being "on-call" and not having an assured amount of hours/pay. I will be looking for a summer job this weekend.

Subbing is still going great. I have jobs for all of next week except Friday. School I was at the past 3 days just called and asked me for next Tuesday. It's a good school, with good kids, so I am happy to do it :)

I am supposed to go talk about my Masters in Teaching next month, but now I am not sure we can do it. I was counting on the re-fi to free up some of the income. I feel like I am caught in a catch 22...need the re-fi so I can afford school...have to get school so I can get a real job so I can afford the re-fi *sigh*

But I'll try to not give up hope. I am going back to the gym and even adding in yoga and meditation. I need to get past some of the deep depression that has been haunting me lately.

I've got two tickets to Iron Maiden, baby. Come with me Friday, don't say maybe.

Fun times! I hope you enjoy yourself!

I feel you on the career front Lany. With today's numbers, I could retire in 15-16 years. Do I go back to school or stay where I'm at? Go into further debt or start socking away for retirement. I don't want to be paying off student loans until my demise.

Good luck Lany, I really hope you get something sorted :grouphug: I know how much time you have put into your home and garden, so I can only imagine what you are going through. You have my sympathy :grouphug:

100 4th graders...sounds...stressful :D

How are you LadyO? Taking time for yourself, I hope? :whip: :whipwhip:

:uhoh: no, no time for myself yet. But the medication seems to be kicking in and the fog is lifting :commie: the first few days were really rough. I'm feeling so much better now. It's such a huge relief. I can finally think clearly and feel like myself. I had no idea how depressed I had actually gotten.

4th graders were a nightmare. Teacher gave me all of the "rowdy" kids. I'm not sure how she's survived an entire year.

How are you doing Helena? You're back home now?

You're like the strongest woman I know - you will get through this!

Do you guys have any equity I the house that you might be able to put towards getting your Masters? (Hopefully that isn't too personal of a question).

Maybe there are veteran scholarships or even the district you sub for might have educational benefits? Mr. O works for the VA, I can ask him for contact info for your state :)

Seconding LadyO, you are an incredibly strong woman Lany :grouphug:

I was wondering about your subbing and the summer holidays. Obviously full time teachers get holiday pay over summer (or they do here). Wasn't sure how it worked with you :( So would you need your MA to be a full-time teacher? Good luck with the summer job search

Yoga is fun. And exercise is great at giving you that little mood boost. Enjoy yourself.

 I was bumping the thread with what the song that was on the radio  I don't really have tickets

Yeah, first little while on meds is difficult. I felt awful before they kicked in properly. Glad they are working for you now though. It's a real shocker when the depression fog lifts. Hopefully you can make some 'you' time soon! Are you scheduled for regular meetings with the shrink too?

Yikes, sounds rough. You were clearly giving her her annual break

I'm ok. Home for summer, glad to see the family again. Been walking Charlie a lot. He missed his mam

Did you mention Mr. O would be back home for a bit soon? When is that, or did I miss it?

Howdy, everybody.

Just having a [_]p of coffee. :smug: One of the best ways to start the day.

Song of the day: Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill (love that one)

Lady O:  Hope you're better now? <hugs> Been thinking of you.

Helena:

Sis! <waves>

BB: how are you these days?

Lany:  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, dear.

KJR: so nice to see you indeed.

Going over my media bills...and the cable can go.

I really like having my Kindle for reading, but at this point some of the best-sellers are hitting 12.99-14.99. Its time to start using the library again.

I third Lady O and Helena. Lany, you are one strong, determined lady.

Bro!

<hugs his sis and kisses her> I have a Sony erader. The 505 PRS. It's not the newest model, but I can live with that. Calibre is a great addition.

I'm currently re-reading ACoK actually.

Charlie! I bet Charlie and Charlie Brown would have loads of doggy fun together :d

It's unbelievable how much the meds are working. Every day gets better. And yes, I see a therapist once a week. She's very nice and has a sense of humor. Very determined that I start building myself up. So that's nice.

Mr. O was here and that was nice. A little sad as he hasn't taken care of himself. His health was quite a bit worse. Hardly able to walk. But we had a very good conversation about getting better together and he's been walking a little every day. The VA in Boston takes much better care of him. They are ordering him a hearing aid (lost a lot of hearing from all the artillery) and they give him shots for the pain in his back (he nearly broke his back when he was dropping from a helicopter and the guy above him messed up and knocked him off the rope. So he fell 50 ft and landed on his back). I am very hopeful for him :)

Now that I've written a novel long post...

Any plans for the break? Relaxing as much as you can? Are you still working at the booth or was that a one time thing? That sounded fun!

Cable is crazy expensive. I think I may cut it back too. We have a bundle deal so it may actually be cheaper to keep it. I hate how they do that?

How have you been? How's the pooch? How's work? I've been waiting for your annual report of spring kittens or ducklings!

Where are Cora and HC??!!

I bet they would  What kind of dog is Charlie Brown? I'm going to have to upload some recent pics of my little fella.

That is great to hear LadyO. I'm so glad you've connected with your therapist too. I got a useless duff from CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) when I first saw someone (because of my age at the time.) Then I went to an in-patient specialist hospital and got a lovely lovely woman I connected with straight away. The difference in my treatment was astounding once that happened. But I'm glad things are getting better for you :)

Sorry Mr. O wasn't taking good care of himself, but I'm glad you had a nice time while he was back and are focusing on getting better together. That is nice. I'm also glad he is getting the help he needs from the VA :) Was Lil O glad to see him too?

Well I've got some breaks planned. A week in the sun with Mothership and Pops (our last holiday together *sniff*) just to relax (as much for them as for me. They work very long hours) A long weekend in Dublin with a uni friend (never been to Dublin, looking forward to that!) and a weekend in Aberdeen staying with one of my friends that I met in hospital. I met some wonderful people there, and most of us stay in touch and meet up, even though we all live in different areas of the UK. The girl I am stopping with is probably my closest friend though, and she's had a rough year. I suspect some tearful talks before we go drown our sorrows and let loose... :D

Well its kind of just a temporary thing. Its basically whenever there are events on at the stadium. Not sure when my next shift will be, they said they would e-mail me. But Monday was really fun. I took over £1,000 alone, and that was just one person on one stall. There were nine stalls :stunned: I've also agreed to look after my mam's friends house and pooch when they go on holiday for two weeks. I'm going to clean, dog walk, and just generally look after it, and they'll pay me for doing so. Which is nice :) (I do love cleaning...I've cleaned the house top to bottom this last week! I'm such an odd duck :leaving: )

You should watch Penny Dreadful btw. Its my favourite thing on TV atm, I can't get enough! Terrific cast, good first season and season two is incredible so far. Watch! Watch! you must! :p (okay, so I am a bit of an obsessive fan. Me and Theda  )

Cora has her new job. And she seemed to have a lot to keep her busy last time we spoke.

I've not heard from HC in a while. Not seen him in the other forum games either, and he is usually lurking in the elimination games and such like.

Okay, now that I've written a novella I think I better stop and let someone else post instead...

Damned emoticon limit!

Why, because you are 18 now? If you enjoy it, you should continue going on holidays with them, no reason not to! ;)

Or maybe I am just very weird. And very lucky with my family, because they are the best people for me to travel with.

I am struggling to write some stupid application for a volunteery thing ... it goes nowhere. I know you are supposed to write all that "I am communicative and good with human interaction" - but that is simply not true, and you are not supposed to lie! What am I supposed to write then? :bang: :crying: I am not ready to be a responsible adult.

Because I don't live with them anymore. And, if all goes as planned, I will be on an internship type thing next year. I do enjoy going on holiday with them though. But, i feel it's time I let them have their time together. They have not had a holiday alone together since before I was born! I don't mean to say I wouldn't go if they asked. But I would definitely feel obligated to pay my share if I did, so that will be some years yet

ETA: Also, lie. I lied on my CV. I said excellent communication skills, friendly, good at interacting with others, adapts well to unfamiliar situations etc. that is all untrue. In fact, I'm very socially awkward, introverted and shy. But, had to be done if I wanted the job! Failing that, focus on stuff you believe about yourself and just big that up (hard working, motivated, etc. etc.)

Also, did you have an exam yesterday? If so, I hope it went well. I did wish you luck but you didn't see my post.

I see your point. With my family, I know my parents like me and the valonqar with them if they go somewhere, so we are always welcome, as far as I know.

Even if I live here now, I see it as a "this semester and then I move back thing". I have no idea when and how I will manage to move out permanently.

Re: pay ... :leaving: :leaving: :leaving: I still live on their expense, except the scholarships. I mean, right now I have a scholarship that covers my stay, but that is only for this semester. Again no idea what happens in a year when I am supposed to finish my MA (without any job experience to speak of at all). I am so lost in life. :(

/me making no sense whatsoever and being in a bad mood today

I edited my last post Buck, if you want to read it. Had issues with my internet connection though so it was slow going.

Don't fret about the expenses thing. If I was living at home, I'm not sure what I would do, as it would alter what loans and grants I get. But I imagine I would pay them some if not most of my maintenance loan/grant to help cover food and rent costs (after all, that is what that money is intended for) and keep back what I need for textbooks etc. However, I know your system is not the same as the UK.

As for no job...I'm not sure on that front. Have you got some idea what you would like to do? Do you have an idea of people/places to contact? Does your uni not have a careers department to help you? With law, there is a fairly clear path after your degree to follow. Which is good, because otherwise I imagine I would be in exactly the position you find yourself in.

We can take this to PM if you would rather :)

And, fwiw, you might try a GenChat thread about post-degree careers. I know some others on the board also graduate this year, and are in the same boat as you. You could offer advice to each other, and get help from people who have "been there, done that." Failing that, Inigma has started a Careerchat thread. Haven't really read it but it could be useful to you? :dunno:

Lost my quotes, again. But thank you all, you are more than kind.

Lady O, before the housing bubble burst, we had over $100g in equity...now we are right at break even, so $0

I am trying for a Stafford loan. I have already submitted the paperwork.

I spent most of this afternoon putting together Alex's first week of lesson plans :)

I got a big world map and covered it with plastic and he is going to track earthquakes and volcanoes on it daily (as well as in a log----also map reading as the site uses lat and long for location :P ) I have a second plastic sheet that I drew the tectonic plates on and after about a month, I will overlay it on the map. I think we'll limit it to the top 15 quakes each day

He'll be reading "Wild Cards", making character sheets for them...and then at the end, make his own character and a little story about him

And then there is a collection of vocabulary (from his school book), stuff on the US Civil War, and science & math worksheets that I will rotate through (no more than 2 of these a day, so not everything everyday, except the earthquake log & the reading).

Also made answer sheets, just in case I am working, so the husband would have at least a little clue ;)

Lany you are an awesome teacher

I would have actually enjoyed summer break if you were my mom.

@Helena - don't forget to share pics of Dublin :)

What area of law will your internship be in?

Is penny dreadful on Netflix?
