The Anti-Targ
Like I said up thread, I think 2000 was the climate change election where the US lost it's opportunity to do anything meaningful on climate. 4 minutes ago, Deadlines? And he's like, "What'd I do?" Bonus: Pre-Trump rea Putin fellating goodness. At least in the case of Europe white people are the natives. So if there is ever a case for indigenous rights for white people and their culture being preserved it's in Europe. It's so depressing that Native Americans are so marginalized in the US that they don't even rate a mention when it comes to demographics. It's all about African Americans and Mexicans taking over the whites. Give them their reservations and their casinos and we can all pretend they don't exist. Here he sounded downright logical and well-intentioned. I thought it was entirely apt. The meaning was clear, "Get to fucking or we will be overrun in 20 years". Oh, and "Vladimir!! YOU'RE SO BIG! Nom, nom, nom, nom, nom." And yes, I'm sure JG has said much worse stuff. This was the clip that registered in my memory.

Well, if there are American Greens who use this as a justification to say "whatever" in distinguishing between Republicans and Democrats, what reason does the Green Party have to even exist? I mean, if 2000 was our last, best chance and we blew it, then the entire Green Party movement is a waste of time isn't it? We should just all kick back and watch the hellscape roll in. OldGimletEye
Immigrants and US medical spending. https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2018-08/pfan-iul080718.php Quote A study published today in the International Journal of Health Services finds that immigrants use far less health care than non-immigrants, and may actually subsidize the care of U.S. citizens. The findings by researchers at Harvard Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine contradict recent claims by Pres. Trump and other political leaders that immigrants drive up U.S. medical costs. Unions https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/08/opinion/unions-missouri-janus.html Quote Unions improve wages, benefits and working conditions for their members. But it’s not just to members’ advantage. Collective bargaining affects pay standards across entire industries, meaning even nonunion workers benefit. Unions also secure legislation that protects all workers, from workplace safety guidelines to a guaranteed weekend. And they reduce gender and racial wage gaps across industries, which contributes to broader equality in society. Trumpsters getting plum positions at universities. https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/no-academic-normalization-of-trump-by-dani-rodrik-2018-08 Quote The University of Virginia recently faced a storm of protest after its Miller Center of Public Affairs appointed President Donald Trump’s former Director of Legislative Affairs, Marc Short, to a one-year position as Senior Fellow. Two faculty members severed ties with the center, and a petition to reverse the decision has gathered nearly 4,000 signatures. A similar protest erupted at my home institution last year, when Corey Lewandowski, a one-time campaign manager for Trump, was appointed a fellow at Harvard’s Institute of Politics. OldGimletEye
Paul "Numbers Guy" Ryan claims he influenced Trump behind the scenes. http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/ryan-suggests-hes-helped-thwart-trump-tragedies-behind-the-scenes Quote Reading the feature piece in the New York Times Magazine on House Speaker Paul Ryan, it’s hard to miss the fact that the Wisconsin Republican doesn’t seem to care for questions about Donald Trump. That’s not especially surprising; if I were Ryan, I wouldn’t want to field a bunch of questions about the president, either. But the Speaker, as he wraps up his congressional career, suggested he’s made a difference with Trump behind the scenes, taking steps to prevent what Ryan described as “tragedies.” Yeah, I'm sure Ryan just dazzled and impressed Trump with his amazing numbers ability and a few power point slides. What a bullshitter.
Morpheus
Hey, all those tragedies the president is responsible for? Well if it wasn’t for me he would have done even worse, you can’t even imagine, let me tell you, oh boy, the leader of the free world would make Thanos blush. That’s what the president/ speaker relationship is, the big guy sits around thinking of atrocities to commit, I talk him down to comparably palatable crimes. For instance, I say, “sir, pardon me for speaking out of turn, if you may forgive one so low for his temerity, blinded as I am by your brilliance, luxuriating in the aroma of your manliness.....perhaps, maybe, if you can see it in your heart to consider, child internment camps rather than a full scale holocaust?” Yep, I think I can leave with my pride. That she should get a vote on how many Latinos live where and how many children they produce? She can fuck herself. No, the point she’s making is a coded attack on the browning of America. There is an obvious reason why diehard Trump supporters are anti-immigration and driven by white racial resentment. They are terrified of the idea that in the not too distant future America will be a majority-minority country.
