But the important question - how drunk are you?

Not as drunk as I was earlier. Been eating some Sonic and hydrating.

Still fairly drunk. Currently have the hiccups.

Seems like a good plan to lay down and watch some Cartoon Network. Family Guy is on. Joe just murdered a bird that was attacking Peter and planted a knife on it.

Sounds about right.

What do you play?

Every now and then I'll play Caribbean Stud Poker, but I used to take my mom and dad to the casino and they were strictly slot machine players. I'd hang out with them and just lose. They were much more patient and cautious. Then I discovered Keno on a slot machine and got hooked. I rarely played anything else. I had some very, very good nights playing Keno. My mom would play keno, but she preferred poker.

Then, all of a sudden, they just turned off the Keno games. You simply could not win. I started playing one quarter instead of fifty cents or dollars. Then I started wandering around playing weird slot machines that are labelled nickel or dime or quarter but actually required a helluva alot of money for the basic spin. A machine labelled 10 cents that requires $2.50 for the lowest spin is not a 10 cent machine. That didn't last long, back to Keno. A few months before everything shut down for Covid, I started regularly playing one of those nutty machines, making nice money when I won but losing lots when I lost. Then I hit a very nice jackpot and stopped going. Casinos here have been shut down since last March. I actually signed up for the provincial app to play for fun during the shutdown, but never deposited any money and have never played, even though they send me so many begging e-mails. Every now and then I wish I could go to the casino, but the feeling doesn't last long. I spend my money playing Pokemon Go instead. :)

I actually think the Keno games got destroyed by the poker players. The machines are the multi-game type, and poker players made money playing the $5 denomination. There were poker players that won huge every night. Then they took the 50 cent, dollar and two dollar options off the machines and made them $5, $10 and $25. I wasn't going to play Keno for that much money. I guess they figured the poker players were hooked and would keep playing, and lose all their money before they'd hit a good hand.

The casinos outside the city have a friendly vibe, and I'd be happy to sit down at a table there, but the casino here in the city has a very hard edge with serious gamblers playing. A poker player told me you really could get skinned  alive on the poker tables, a lot of very good players there.

Or video poker w game selection.  At least 2 of the 3 casinos near me have games you get 99+% back on.  With comps and promotions you can approach break even, sometimes get there.  Depends on how much you value free rooms and free golf.  Either way, free* drinks!

* or $400 glasses of wine, depending.

No free drinks allowed in Canada! And the government here is very greedy!

But what exactly is the difference between a "beer factory" and a brewery?

Volume and numbers of laborers. At least in ancient eras. If you read the article this Egyptian beer factory served a temple complex and the product was part of the various ceremonial rituals, particularly those very many rites around preparing the body (and soul) for the passage from this world to the next.  Thus much beer was needed and the complex doubtless owned many slaves, as well as acolytes, for labor.

Very different from the typical home brewing which, until modern times, was how mostly beer was made available for most people -- very targeted, local consumption.

It was typical in medieval Europe for the local village baker to also brew a batch of beer every week or so.  The earlier one acquired one's own pails from the baker's new batch, the better it was. Well managed religious and castle complexes brewed beer constantly also, but it wasn't for export, though some might be sold to the local officials for their personal consumption.

Taverns also brewed their own -- there wasn't a factory - distribution network possible for outside local consumer. It would make even more sense for the more upscale taverns which might have stable attached. The tavern, like a bakery, would be taking regular shipments of grain for the horses and bread.  Grain has a longer shelf life, so to speak, than the brewed beverage in the days before good roads and innovations for sanitation and storage.

In this era volume and distribution determines the distinction between a brewery-factory, and micro brewery, macro brewery, and craft brewery.

Was not expecting such a detailed reply!

In UK English a brewery is still a brewery no matter how big it is. Though in recent decades there has been a welcome tendency towards smaller ones that tend to produce much better beer. I guess it is just a language thing.
