GOODKIND XXIX: BRING ON THE STUPID

So two of us are on board. But the question is: when? I'm leaning toward the Confessor release. That way it'll give us all a little more time to recover from NHAW, and prepare/find our av's. Then we can coordinate further TAW's to any future releases.

These threads typically last around 2 weeks, which would make for twice the fun. Or twice the abuse if you see it that way. But that would also make it a one-time deal, because we'll never have again a thread as special as XXX.

I've been staying away from the Goodkind threads for a while - I couldn't take the horror anymore. So I come back for the first time in months and that page of Mystar's is giving me hives. Did you see his taste in music? Sweet mother of god, what kind of man listens to "easy listening"? This explains so much about the man, the myth, the star.

You can find it here. It's amusing how Silverstar goes to such lengths to show how she doesn't care about what we do. There was also the post Wert linked to some time back on Chronicles.

I trolled back through the thread, I've got some comments. Await, with baited breath!

I can never comprehend the rules of lemmnghood. It seems that at times a lemming must follow the Teachings of the Yeard, like jaw-kicking and Choosing Life, while simultaneously opposing the Goodkind (BBHN) in all things.

That's the exact definition of lemminghood. We stand on a bridge the width of a knife's edge, a bridge over a chasm of ice to the left and fire to the right. To fall is to perish, to balance, a challenge. Sometimes I get confused. Generally I try to contradict all of the wizard's rules, making my life rife with contradictions. Of course, that's the kind of idiocy you get when you try to base your life on a second-rate fantasy author. Or the complete opposite of that, as the case may be.

Nope. Not me. Not pale enough. But I might post an av of me one of these days, but I'm not gonna tell which one is me. *whistles*

I'll watch for the avatar that is hot like Klan herself - with a spark of intelligence in her eye and a belt floating somewhere around her waist. And big jugs. Sweet.

I do find that to be quite complimentary, as that is what I’ve been aiming for. Alas, they were probably not talking about me but WLU.

Given the original statement ("What venomous drivel…") I'm not sure if I'm flattered or not.

OK, I'm having a go at Mystar's statements. I'll try to be fair.

The very unfortunate thing is the lack of any kind of emotional or mental control. What we see is people trying to disparage anyone who is a fan of Goodkind, Disparage Goodkind himself and what they unfortunately seem unable to see is the simple fact the only ones they wind up making look bad are themselves.

I see it more of an aesthetic preference, which I’ve said before. We don’t like Tairy. We find his writing to be poor, derivative, nonsensical, ill-plotted, poorly realized and often offensive. Most people who are casual readers seem to come over to our side once they read the Goodkind-bashing threads. Most people who are fans and find the books meaningful, well, we’re never going to change their minds, and they tend to get a fairly brusque treatment over here. Aesthetic preferences aren’t really amendable to arguments; you can either resort to ad hominens (which we do) or you can agree to disagree (don’t think it’s happened yet). The ad hominens do reflect somewhat badly on us, but we’ve made the arguments so many times before, well, it’s certainly quicker to just call someone an idiot. And whether we look bad or not depends on the reader – someone who agrees with us thinks we look good and Goodkind looks douch-ey. Someone who doesn’t, thinks the opposite.

No one can put out such vitriol and look like anything other than a sore looser, unstable person or a school yard bully. While engaging in such mockery people reading such things simply move along while loosing any respect for those spouting the mindless prattle.

So long as they put some thought into it, someone who puts 'a lot' (relatively, really it's more like tens of minutes per day for most of us) of time and vitriol into disliking something is someone who's opinion I can respect. If they’ve not put any thought into their points and can’t argue for their dislike, yeah, then I see Mystar’s point. But I think we’ve all thought of it and come up with generally the same level of agreement about Yeardii’s bad points. Of course, I’m an insider, so I’m assuming a greater level of homogeneity than probably exists.

The other aspect (like we see with WLU and Pita), is the specific manipulation of the facts in order to paint a picture that has no kernel of truth. Moreover to twist away from actual truth and factual events on the story like to make a blatant misrepresentation in order to skew people’s perceptions. People like this unfortunately show a deep-rooted core of dishonesty with in themselves and a mistrust of others.

I generally include a link in my rebuttals to specific points (I think) and people are free to read the original context. Yeah, Yeardii sometimes comes across a bit better with more context, but I find when I try to explore the reasoning behind Yeardii’s statements, it comes up hollow. I’ve yet to be convinced by anything he’s said, though Tairy’s points about irradiation are accurate. Though he misses the fact that capitalism and the West has a very strong element of choice in it – we are free to try to convince people food irradiation is safe, but ultimately it is there decision to buy. To force them to buy irradiated food isn’t in keeping with this. The fundamental problem that I see with Objectivism is that its ‘leaders’ seem to think that everyone should or must agree with them, and to disagree is wrong. I think I’m smart, but know I have limitations in information available to me, my ability to understand it, and the time I can put into it. Hence, I try to convince people, but ultimately I’m not too bent out of shape if they continue as they believe. Incidentally,

1) Food irradiation was found to generate compounds that did not exist in nature and were highly chemically reactive; the consequences of consuming these compounds are unknown.

2) No-one eats spices like they eat apples and meat. You may get a couple tablespoons of irradiated spice in an entire dish, which isn’t the same thing as eating big slabs of irradiated meat or a whole pie.

Still, I’d be comfortable with being offered the choice to eat irradiated food, though I’d have to read up on it further. Barry Glassner thinks it’s safe.

The bottom line comes down to this simple fact...FEAR. They fear. They fear the truth that causes them to question their core beliefs and what they have always valued. Goodkind creates the question and they are unable to comprehend it, let alone answer it, so they rebuke it with such verbosity because they are unable to deal with truth. Some have had good questions, but always refuse to acknowledge the defining answers when given.

I’d say it’s more...CONTEMPT. We contempt. Goodkind confirms my core beliefs of tolerance, moderation, rational thought and diversity (intellectual, cultural, culinary, what have you) by being such a strawman himself. Goodkind has never presented anything in a manner I have found convincing - if those are the best arguments he can present for 'his side' (conservative, pro-capitalism, anti-socialism, pro-science (I guess, he's never hit on much science that I've seen)), well, I'm happy that I can come up with objections to most of the things he says and am more firmly convinced that 'my side' is correct. Or, more accurately, more correct.

Food irradiation I knew about before, he pretty much summarized what I already knew, but with an emotional appeal that I found trite, over-reaching, a gross extremity and non-representative (as usual). Incidentally, from my recall of the statistics, guns kill twice as many people as bacterial infections, and probably far more innocent victims (the number of kids who shoot themselves with their parents guns is pretty high IIRC; pools are worse incidentally). I think I understand Goodkind’s values, and view them as jingoist, fear-mongering, elitist and conservative. But once I actually read through the rest of the series, I’ll know better. Certainly the interviews haven’t been convincing, though they have been funny, frightening and angering.

I'm always reminded of the last part of "Star Trek the Move" When V'ger wants to contact the Maker, when given the proper answer, V'ger shuts down that particular link, in fact not only shuts it down but burns out the circuit, refusing to receive the answer. It wanted to meet and touch and "join with the Creator", only then will it have the reality of the true knowledge. That's what comes to mind when I read some of the tripe these people put out.

The truth of the matter is this, like Pita, Mindonner, and WLU et al. They only read parts, omitting all else because it does not fit their ability and understanding. They see only what it is they "expect" to see and only what they "want" to see, so they fail and because they fail they translate that vacuum into anger and vitriol aimed at the person or entity that has caused this hiccup in their epistemology.

My bashing aside, I’ve read WFR and SoT, with a fairly open mind. I admitted they weren’t as bad as the threads let on (thus), but there were many aspects that were disturbing or revolting.

I’ve read both books and both were a labour of hate, as in I hated reading them because they were so mediocre, derivative and, well, offensive, when they weren’t blatantly absurd (naked battle? That’s just dumb). I’ve read two whole books, not just the QOTD. And I found the QOTD pretty much stood on their own, it’s not like context made a naked battle more sensical or Klan’s turboslut switch more realistic. As the thread sub-title says, we get it. We just think it’s dumb. Yeardii’s personal abrasiveness, laughable philosophy and vacuous pontificating are just icing on the cake. A douchebag author who is a friendly person is forgivable, as is a douchebag person who is a good author. But someone who’s both, well, they’re worth mocking.

Incidentally, epistemology is the science of knowing, how we know we know and how we know it’s true. Descartes and some Greeks summed things up for me – we can’t know the world is real, but we can pretend it is and that works pretty well. I’ve yet to hit up on Goodkind’s epistemology (is that in FotF?), but if it’s anything like Rand’s, I doubt it’s worth reading. I don’t think I’ve failed to understand Goodkind’s message, I just don’t like it, aesthetically and intellectually. Certainly it didn’t change how I view the nature of reality. Since I haven’t read the epistemology parts of Yeardii’s works, I can’t say if M* is using the word incorrectly but it certainly hasn’t caused a hiccup in my paradigm.

I am however...ever the optimist... As these people grow up, learn and gain more knowledge of the world around them, people, events and inter workings....and hopefully with that will come "understanding".

Actually, I’m pretty well informed about the world, it’s the rare subject I can’t converse with someone about, or at the least ask some interesting questions. Given the US’s reputation for insularity and ignorance of the rest of the world, I’d be more likely to question the TG.net member’s knowledge of the world, especially given MtMM’s anthropological analysis of things (apologies if it’s the wrong user).

A person can obtain untold amounts of knowledge but with out "understanding" it means nothing. In Temple of the Winds, the scene where Zedd asks of Richard "what Did you have to leave when you left the Temple", Richard answers "Knowledge", Zedd then asks "and what did you take with you"? Richard answers "Understanding"... I was very moved by that passage. It to me spoke volumes of the difference and more over.....the significance.

Just because we don’t agree doesn’t mean we don’t understand. We just have different assumptions about things. I, for instance, don’t assume my way of living is correct, but I do assume that it is correct for me. Others might not like it. And like most of the pithy quotes of the Yeard, it seems like a superficially wise thing you’d find on the inside of a fortune cookie. Personally, I would think that the two are the same thing, but that’s ‘cause most things I know, I tend to understand. However, the only way to address this in reality is to discuss and compare definitions.

Being mocked, being called names mean nothing; it has no effect on anyone other than the poor sad soul who sits there and hurls them out. What it does show is the deep level of hurting, the deep emptiness the soul that exists of the one spewing them out. I truly pity such people. They have to hurtle such vitriol, in order to try to feel good about themselves. Schoolyard bullies indeed.

That’s great douchebag :P I feel good about that because it’s ironic in the context, since you basically gave me permission to insult you. I think this is hilarious, deep within my shrivelled little lemming soul.

They are the ones hurting, the ones that look bad, not the other way around, yet they will never know or understand that simple truth.

What a wonderful, sweeping, epic statement but the truth is not simple.

I like this board (more accurately these threads) because I get to associate with like-minded people who dislike the Yeard like I do, and most of them are funny. Plus, Wolf Maid is hot. I don’t do it because I hurt, I do it because it’s fun. Actually, we look bad to them, and they look bad to us. I don’t think people on TG.net are idiots (barring some exceptions), but I don’t post there because I think there are irreconcilable differences in opinion and aesthetic that won’t change on either end. It’s insulting for me to post there since I would be doing it for dishonest reasons (my preconceived opinions would preclude me having an honest, open minded discussion). It’s insulting for most of them to post here for the same reason. Were we to meet honestly to discuss, without assuming the other is wrong or right (fundamentally; not aesthetically), we’d probably have a long conversation that went nowhere except ‘we agree to disagree’. Then we'd spend a bit of time staring at our dicks, and walk away.

I do love to talk, don't I?

Since the kooks over there enjoy that crap that the Yeard puts out, it shouldn't be surprising that they also like to praise my* on his prose (I had to read the remark twice just to be sure it wasn't sarcasm). But how much toadying can actually go on? It's amusing the level of praise the Yeard receives, but loving my*'s "prose" is like complimenting a dim-witted child on his fingerpainting. Tairy must be a megalomaniac just to be able to put up with these people. Who would want their biggest fanboy calling them "every hour" to gush their love over the new book? A nut that's who. A crazy f*cking nut.

Fuckin' A right, Mr. Moose. By the by, that number you gave me to try in the second hour, it didn't work, man. PM me or something, k?

I'd forgotten how beautifully you write Moosey!!! You said exactly what I wanted to say say except more eloquently!!! Your prose brings tears to my eyes!!! Your linguistic skills are second to none!!!

Your new sig has inspired in me a new title. Who wants to be Hiccuping Epistemologist in the Church of the Yeard?

You're a regular Richard Rahl, dude.

As I've said before, I have zero right to criticize long speechifiers. I hate the Yeard, yet imitate him. A contradiction, I win! Haha!

Imagine were he to carve a statue. I can see it now, a giant of a man, 15 feet tall, of purest alabaster with a Yeard of gold, bent over and getting rogered soundly by a 40-foot granite lemming with eight foot antlers. Sigh...

I think we've rolled over a good idea here. We should make November 11 - 17 Tairy Avatar Week, in honor of the release of Confessor. Only it won't be naked - or at least mine won't.

EDIT - Or maybe we should do it to commemorate 'Goodkind XXX.' We could use Tairy av's for the duration of the thread.

Yep! The problem is Tairy only has 2-3 pics out there. I swear, I think M* hordes them all. :( We could also have the sig back, if you want!

Yeeeeee~s. We feeeeeee~ar. My preciousssss~s.

The only question GK evokes for me is this: "WTF is he/are they thinking?" because while I comprehend what GK's truth is, I can't comprehend how anyone could be this...misguided.

M* had a few gems this week, didn't he. Oh, if only personal bashing is allowed.

WLU, Moose, Min: I worship you guys. Your writing is so orgasmic and life-giving.

Bastard! Death Chooser!

If M* can brutalize the English language and be revered by his minions for it, then I demand the same.

I bow before your celerious logic and tenuous grasp of the English language.

You are obviously one who understands the "Truth", and since I can call God whenever I want (and make a point to tell anyone who will listen that I am able to call God any time I want, cuz it would drive me nuts if people didn't realize that I had the ability to call God any time I wanted, name-dropping cunt that I am) I will be sure to tell him that you are an okay kinda guy. The next time I talk to God I'll tell him so, and you know I call him all the time cuz me and him are real good pals. I'm not just name-dropping, We really are good buddies, and I really will tell him about you, honest.

I just want to try the shit that Yeard smokes. Must be some heavy hitting dope to write and actually believe that crap. At least Hubbard was in it for the money. Tairy is in it for spreading his literary puke. I just hope that he dies penniless and forgotten as banks, private health care take his money and throw him on the street. That would be a fitting end for him.

I disagree, a fitting punishment for Tairy would probably be to commit a crime (who cares what) just good enough to send him to a real prison, and give him a real first-hand taste of what rape really is, So in the future if he is to have his hero or heroine threaten or condemn someone to that fate, at least he'll understand just what he's talking about. And that would be a first.

Moose you're forgetting that Tairy lives and shits in the Yankistan where rich can get away with anything. Although it would be amusing seeing as the Yeard spends millions on jewish lawyers he would still get off the hook. Unless he was caught in public kicking an 8 year old in the jaw while raping her mother and ripping her father's spine through a melon sized hole in his chest, but I doubt that even he can manage something like that.
