You know what grinds my gears?

Recommended Posts
Also, is it just Japan that pisses you off, or do people who like Japan and Japanese history/culture count too? If so I should add that to the list.
I hate Japan's whitewashing of its WW2 history. The rampant racism that pervades its culture. Its repressed outward culture. And I'm more then a bit disturbed by the wacked out perversions that repression seems to inspire. (watch some Japanese porn some time. Real or animated, most of it amounts to one variation or another of pretend child rape. And the other half is eels, tentacles, bukkake, or worse)

I also can't stand anime generally, nor its mass infiltration of kids programming since the success of Pokemon.

Another thing that grinds my gears is smokers who believe in universal health care.

I hate Japan's whitewashing of its WW2 history.
rather like the whitewashing of spending a couple months in intensive care with tubes running out of your mouth because you couldn't stop with the coffin nails. tres tres chic, that is. but if we all pretend that will never happen, perhaps it will make it come to pass.

Use email it is cleaner and clearer.

To agree with Lucky over 30 is NOT OLD - write and outline next time when you specify age limits - you are as young as you feel and gods I feel 104.

Oh and hey you - Simon we still on for the Hunt Club in Collins?

Hope that helps.

Phrosty

No lie:

The dude next to me at the urinal at Cracker Barrel this morning who loudly cleared his throat and proclaimed 'Dont you just fucking love american toilets'.

I said nothing, kept my focus... as I was zipping up he started talking about the weather and hoping it was going to be a nice day. It's fucking ORLANDO dip shit.. it's going to be a nice day... All I said was-you've got a good chance... I washed and left.

Obviously he is not a member here.

As for EHK's list, I would grind his gears on a couple of them, I'm sure, but not on the smoking one. I don't smoke 90% of the time, but when I'm around smokers, I will light up. What's a lung or two among friends? :grouphug:

As for beers, I know from nothing about beer. All I require of it is to quench my thirst. but wine is another matter entirely. Oh, and my gin and tonic must have plenty of lime.

ETA: Whilst enjoying EHK's old thread rants, I realized I had spelled quench "quence" - F****! that grinds my gears.
I subsidize your ass and you haven't paid me back yet. Nor taken up arms to get me my money or rights back. Nor advocated that someone should take up arms for those moneys and rights. Nor stated that we should be hypothetically entitled to secede in order to bring back and preserve those moneys and rights. And you haven't said thank you. :)
That's almost like demanding people who don't drink to go say "thank you" to alcoholics for their contributions via sin tax.

And, besides, you know what happened last time a group of people tried to secede. Those Yankees weren't too happy about that.

People who don't like Cubs fans. It's okay to hate the Cubs, but leave us alone.

People who think the Crash Davis speech from Bull Durham was great. It's a shitty speech that was badly written and poorly delivered and the love it gets just makes it more infuriating.
There has to be a posted minimum speed limit to get a ticket for it.
IIRC you can be ticketed for driving more than 20mph under the posted limit, although this is rarely enforced.

Aside from the anime bit, I do agree with the points you brought up. Pokemon is the devil's game, and they are quite a perverse culture who is, on a whole, very xenophobic. Those aspects are part of Japan's less-than-glorious side, but just about every country has it's bad side. If you can look past that, Japan really does have a very long, rich, colorful history with quite a lot to offer. And, their country is really quite beautiful once you get out of the city and into the country. And onsens.

I mean, their game shows alone are funny as hell to watch, especially when drunk. I mean, who doesn't want to watch some guys get shot in the ass with blowgun darts every time they laugh? But I digress.

Yeah and I hate it when you IE 8.0 won't work - work 2 hrs downgrading to 7.0 and watch it not work and then reupgrade to IE 8.0 and it works except for one site and I work 30 minutes to fix it!!!!!

I hate it when a cop gives me a ticket or warning and I always say - "thank you!" to him like he did me a favor.

So, uh, don't do that.

Edit: Or just look at it as thanking him for his public service, and not for the ticket. I think most of us could support that, right?
Creationists
I'm Catholic, so that makes me a creationist, but at least I'm not one of those crazy fundies, and I really don't give a shit what you choose to believe. And I wholeheartedly believe in the separation of Church and State, and am adamantly against creationism being taught in schools.

I've got a soft spot for those old Russian writers.

Everything else we're in agreement on.

This. Cubs fans are bad, but Sawks fans are so much worse. They've become insufferable since winning the WS.

Are American toilets different from European toilets? I've lived in Mexico, South Africa, and Brazil and I didn't notice a big difference in the toilets of those countries.

I don't pour part of my beer in your glass - why the hell do I have to breath your Cancer catalyst?
You don't have to; unless you're being forcibly dragged into restaurants and bars that allow smoking.

eh, that's not quite fair. when all of your friends are at a smoking bar, you either go to said bar and hang out with your friends, or sit at home and think about what a good time all of your friends are having. as a smoker, i have never had to worry about this, but before the smoking ban here, it was a complaint i heard from non-smoking friends, and, IMO, it was valid.

I've never particularly cared for that speech either. Nobody I know does either. Is its popularity an urban legend?

Then that person should consider new friends if its a big enough deal. Not my problem, your problem, the business owner's problem, and it sure as fuck shouldn't be the state's problem.
That's almost like demanding people who don't drink to go say "thank you" to alcoholics for their contributions via sin tax.
When alcoholics pay $50 for a $5 bottle of rotgut run, then they can compare their 'sin taxes' to mine. How many state budgets are we saving each and every damned year? 'Well, we've got a budget shortfall...do we raise property tax 2%? Sales tax 1%? I know, another dollar per pack on cigarettes! Fuck the smokers!' Everyone's in favor of passing the buck and because smokers have such a pariah status (created in part by an anti-smoker smear campaign funded by our tax dollars. That's right, I'm paying for the state to insult and degrade me. Joy.) along with the fact that most of them feel guilty about it in the first place, noone raises a big fuss. God forbid we actually pass the costs of running society onto the actual fucking society. So yes, I expect a thank you. Unless you can find some other product that's taxed at near the level of cigarettes, or another perfectly legal behavior that's as marginalized and ostracized as smoking?
I'm Catholic, so that makes me a creationist, but at least I'm not one of those crazy fundies
Eh...Catholic doesn't equal creationist. Last time I checked, the Catholic church was fine with evolution. I do tend to identify creationist with crazy-fundy though. Sorry man, but its an inexcusably, indefensibly ignorant belief. God may not be contradicted by mountains of available evidence, but creationism sure as hell is. (not to mention being supported by nothing)

Really irks me when you're at the bar playing that touch screen trivia game, about to set a new high score and your friend you're playing with sees the question "This US President was known for never telling a lie" and then he immediately selects the first answer shown beginning with GEORGE W.
