MyLittleDirewolf
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's that quote coupled with the way he said "Because I can not prove that YOU ARE NOT MINE" in one of the earlier episodes.Seems like a pretty strong hint to me.NOOO! I really hope that's not where the show is going. I hate the idea that Tyrion is not a Lannister. Will not accept it. Lalalalala!
Zman1863
While I don't agree, your criticisms of the tone are fair.Looking at the end of that chapter, the only reference I see is ""Mhysa!” a brown-skinned man shouted out at her." Of course that's just one person described, but it being the one GRRM emphasized, it leads me to imagine that's how most of the slaves looked. I didn't pay much attention to skin color, though, so maybe there are other passages contradicting that.I do recall that the slaves were taken from a wide variety of territories, so I also would've preferred more diversity, but seeing as how their dire circumstances and needs are very reflective of periods throughout our own history, the only way I'd have a problem with a portrayal of a white person liberating them is if there was some implication that race was an internal limitation for them and/or an internal superiority for Dany. Which I don't see at all, but it's understandable how the image alone makes some uncomfortable. For me it's a welcome change from all the times powerful people do nothing, or in Jorah's case, advise that nothing be done. That's pretty much my view of it also. I think they would have done much better to make the crowd of slaves as racially diverse as possible given the potential for the scene to come off as a 19th century imperialist's dream. But I'm certain there was no such intent.
Theli
As far as Jaime's arc goes... with Catelyn and Robb dead, there's nowhere to send Sansa, maybe Jaime feels she's safer as Tyrion's wife, and Jaime's fallout with Tywin and Cersei may be caused by his willingness to send Sansa away (to Lysa Arryn, one would guess). I just hope he doesn't get sick from his wound again and spends the few episodes before the PW in a feverish state... :(
Tall Tyrion Lannister!
Theon destroyed Rodrik's 200 Northerners with 20 Ironborn, so 50 Ironborn could take Dreadfort if the show is consistent. She also never said she was going to stay there. briantw
NOOO! I really hope that's not where the show is going. I hate the idea that Tyrion is not a Lannister. Will not accept it. Lalalalala! He'd still technically be a Lannister, as Tywin married a cousin.
The Killer Snark
You mean that Tywin might actually hate Tyrion because it's becoming more apparent that he may be not his son at all but the son of mad Aerys? Wow. I had not thought of that. I think his different coloured hair might be a clue, though. Here's another idea, anyway. I think that the best place for Asha, sorry, Yara, at the moment is maybe if she holes up for a while at Deepwood Motte. :) Edited June 10, 2013 by The Killer Snark
thepooperthatwaspromised
What about Tyronn?Since he's pretty much the star of the series, he doesn't really need a spinoff , though Game of Scorn: Inside the Lannisters would be pretty sweet. Lily Valley
Now I've gotta wait 3 months until football. :dunce:Hahaha! I have been saying the same thing all week! Maybe I'll actually clean my house? "What to do on Sunday" deserves a thread of its own.
jarl the climber
Unless she is talking about an equivalent of a commando raid and not a full frontal assault yes.I think that is what she is planning. She says thats she was going around Westeros and sailing up the Narrow Sea to the Weeping Water. So shes attacking from the East where it will be least expected. So it seems like she is thinking about something along those lines. And of course she indicated that she is bringing her best fighters. boojam
Every now an then D and D do some nice slight of hand.Arya slips from Sandor's grasp and goes to kill the Frey soldier (the coin and situation brought forward from CoK)... but Arya knows there are three other guys there, she also knows the Hound will follow and can more than take care of three guys.Nice touch."Next time you're going to do something like that tell me first." Melisandre, Stanis, Davos confrontation. It's Melisandre who takes the lead in letting Davos keep his head.Way it should have been in the book. She has been going on and on and on about confrontation of the Red God with the The Great Other (tho I don't think the Great Other has been mentioned). Melisandre: "The true war lies to the north my king. Death marches on the wall only you can stop him."Best line in this episode.(George has been going on about this forever!)(Another good line, Gendry: "Big words, no clothes, what would you have done?") MarieAntoinette
I just watched the episode and it felt mostly like a filler and not a season finale. I liked Arya and the Hound a lot and also Sam and Gilly meeting with Bran and later with Maester Aemon. Robbwind was quite creepy, it looked better on the show than in the production still, I thought they did a good job.The rest was a bit underwhelming. Too bad that there was no real scene of Sansa reacting to the RW, that short glimpse was not enough. I liked the look that Brienne gave Jaime, but the reunion between him and Cersei was rushed. I did not care much for Jon and Ygritte or Tyrion and Cersei's scenes. The ending was cheesy, the writers probably thought that this come across as some epic finale moment but it just fell flat. I think that with the Mhysa - Mother connection not including LS in the last few seconds was a missed opportunity. Still despite my complaining overall I liked this season quite a lot, it was much better than season 2 to me. Looking forward to season 4. ASM
I thought the episode was pretty solid - especially, surprisingly - in the North. Look at what we got next season in that snowy tundra:- Jon Snow might actually get some quality screen-time and the chance to do cool things! That's kind of essential so that we might actually like the guy who, you know, is in my eyes the main "hero" in the books.- Bran and crew started getting interesting last episode when Bran started warging. Unless there's a definitive "No Coldhands" rule by the producers, it seems like we'll still have him, only his introduction be vis-a-vis Bran instead of Sam. He's too cool to leave out.-Speaking of Sam, if you want to talk about a potential breakout character for next season, I think we got a sleeper pick here. John Bradley has always done a stellar job as Sam, even if when it's something as simple as singing to Sam Jr., but those last few scenes of him were awesome. If they can give him more to do next year next year during the Battle at Castle Black, that'd be really cool to see.-Davos Seaworth is a boss. I can't wait until King Stephen Dillane and his posse show as next year.
Keishi of Oldstones
Well Lady Stone didnt show until the end of the book so why would she show up this episode it will be episode 9 or 10 of next season I hope episode 10 of next season since its the last thing we read in that book. I think it would be amazing.
wandering_lady_Stark
I'm slightly disappointed in the whole Ramsey/Reek scenes. For me, they were almost unbearable to read so I was hoping they would be unbearable to watch, also, is it just me, or are they behind in this part of the story? I just feel they're going too slow. Ampris
I really hate violence so I could have done without the opening scene. I wasn’t sure that they would show Greywind’s head on Robb’s body, but for Arya to see it… god. That was beyond what I was expecting.I like seeing Sansa happy and joking. It was a nice scene even if it was short lived. But cmon, “sheepshift” – they do love to beat us over the head with her stupidity, don’t they? But Tyrion is really at his best. His Small Council scene was so strong. Whitewashed or not, he’s at his forte.Tywin saying that only a dozen men were killed at the wedding just shows to me how much they botched the potential of the RW in the show. Things like Frey pie only happen because of how many families lost men at the RW. (Btw, I have a friend whose last name is Frey – and it’s pronounced like “fry.” So in my mind Frey pie is a rhyming phrase and all the better for it IMO. I refuse to pronounce it like “fray” on that principle.)As much as I like Charles Dance, Tywin’s continued wounding of Tyrion makes me very impatient to see Tyrion kill him.Hodor hodoring down the well made me laugh so hard. And I loved how Bran told the Rat King story about guest right before they cut to Walder Frey, but they still should have explained it better before the RW. Also, I am disappointed that we didn’t see the whole Nightfort gate thing with Sam. I know there is much speculation about his oath opening the portal and what it means. Guess that’s for naught.I am confused about Roose Bolton saying that Robb refused his advice at every turn. I don’t remember Roose offering him much advice at all but I didn’t pay much attention knowing what was coming. I tried to distance myself from Robb Stark. As much as I hate the Theon torture porn, I do admire how great the acting is. The whole cock and sausage parallel was a bit far though. I know that we have to see the descent of Theon to learn how he becomes what he does in later books, but they are taking too much delight in showing it. A lot less could have the same effect.I know we’ve all guessed at Bran’s role but I think that’s the first time they’ve really come out and said that Bran is going to be the one to stop the Others.Wow. Totally did not see Ramsay mailing Theon’s cock to Balon. But Yara’s reaction even before she said anything was still so strong. Her censure of her father’s actions was writ in every feature of her face. I love Asha in the books and thank fucking god they finally show her being SOME of the badass that she’s supposed to be.“She does know her way around a man’s head, I’ll give her that.” lolololI liked the scene with Davos and Gendry, not for any profound reason but just for the conversation itself. I just plain enjoyed it.I know that most people hate Shae, but I never have, not in the show. And seeing her scene with Varys really broke my heart. I have no doubt she’ll still end up dead, though the “how” of it remains to be seen, and I found myself wishing she would have just taken the damn diamonds and sailed away and LIVED. Damn her.Okay I know I said I don’t like violence but seeing Arya give the Frey bannerman the Braavosi coin before killing him gave me chills. I have been waiting so long to see her done the justice in the show suitable to bookArya. And I laughed when the Hound told her to tell him the next time she planned on doing that.Did they really have to make Jon and Ygritte’s ill-fated romance more painful? It’s one thing to shoot an arrow at him as he flees. It’s another to confront him, one on one, and still shoot him THREE times. Wtf?I can’t quite remember but I thought it was Jon’s idea to send the summons to the kings of Westeros? Not Maester Aemon? But I’m not sure. I’m glad they kept Davos reading the missive though. Sending Gendry back to KL though? I’m interested to see the reason for that.Say what you will about the twincest, but Cersei’s expression when she saw Jaime… wow. Love is love. And wrong or not, you can’t deny that much.“people learn to love their chains.” Oh yes they do, my wise khaleesi. That final scene with Dany… holy shit. What a powerful way to end the season. The music, the adoration of the crowd, the expression on Dany’s face, and the expressions on the faces of Missandei, Barristan and Jorah – you can just see them finally grasping how far she is come and what kind of figure she has become. The wonder and awe is palpable.Overall a very solid finale and a solid episode in and of itself. A good place to end.

Opisthokont
No Lady Stoneheart, no Coldhands, no dead Balon, which was all a bit disappointing. But I still think this episode was really, really good. And the obligatory Dany scene was mercifully short. Whoever wrote and whoever directed this episode should have written and directed them all, because some of the earlier episodes in series 3 were frankly not very good.
