[Book & Show Spoilers] Season 4 is unsatisfying for me so far

There were rumours about the whole "GoT actor refuses to do nudity anymore" last year, but I'm pretty certain it was never confirmed; so people are just pissing in the wind when they name names (unless someone can actually link a reliable source, and not some click-bait website). I know some were convinced it was Esme Bianco, saying that's the reason why she was killed off.

Since her absence hasn't been referred to once since and she's essentially been replaced by Olyvar The Male Whoreâ„¢, I wouldn't be surprised if that were actually true.

Emilia Clark has already had her contract altered so that she doesn't have to do any more nude scenes, so at least that part won't happen. I do agree though that it would be better to have more of the good story line from the books and less gratuitous sex. There's plenty of free porn on the internet without having to pay extra to see it on HBO.

Source?

The only articles on the matter involve a comment apparently by Oona Chaplin on the matter, but with no specific actor named. The articles have an image of Clarke in a clear attempt at click-bait.

That sounds like a pretty low blow. Even I wouldn't accuse D+D of that. I think the reason Ros' death was never mentioned was because they originally planned for her to survive and get Sansa out of KL, but changed things last minute. So no time or money to reshoot scenes to include mentions of her.

I'll save my high blows for those that don't give low blows to characters I love ;)

There will be a sex scene, with nudity, and I have a feeling it will be this season. Get ready for the Daario looooove. Yeah, baby.

4x07: Daario entreats Dany to allow him to do what he does best. :stillsick: I think it could mean other things, but Clarke's expressions in 4x03 are so thirsty.

I would've liked this. Having Ros help Sansa and then LF putting a bolt in Ros (b/c she was employed by Varys and might've eventually told about Sansa) would've been a much stronger TV moment. Than say, having Dontos randomly return after 20 episodes for such a significant plot role.

Casual viewers: the Fool, is employed by LF, wait what?? when did that happen?

or

Casual viewers: OH, Ros and LF killed Joff! That makes sense. Joff tortured/murdered her fellow whore back in Season 2.

In hindsight, the 3x01 scene with Sansa/Shae/Ros/LF is sooo filler.

Colour me intrigued. What do you mean?

Every Bioware "romance" (I am looking at you Mass Effect) is all about building up to them getting to fuck as the "reward" for the players efforts. Its not really about character development.

Same thing with Daario n Daenerys. There is no story here, the show hasn't even bothered to suggest the book reasons Dany has against being with Daario (low birth and Drogo mourning). This romance only becomes relevant once Hidzhar and Quentyn are there. Even then, beyond establishing that Dany wants this guy, the focus should be that Dany makes a sacrifice is setting her lover aside for the good of Meereen to marry Hidzhar. Their romance itself isn't the focus. But last season and in this season the show has been making episode after episode in which the focus has been on Daario trying to get with Dany as if hes the main character. Pointless repetitive scenes to make look badass and increase viewer sympathy for him at the expense of all the other characters.

We even have one episodes synopsis of Danys plot for an episode being "Daario does what he does best" ie fuck.

While I see your point, and there is some truth to that, it isn't really fair to go that far. Bioware not about character development? That's a hallmark of their games. They're arguably world's No1 where CRPGs are concerned.

Yes the structure of the storylines which culminate in a sex scene is kind of undermining the whole thing. Particularly if its just a single title. The later Mass Effects where you could continue your love interests was quite interesting. So ME3 where you could carry on your shephards relationship with, say, Tali. Whereas in the second game it is you building up to seeing what she looks like under that mask. And those cheating bastards!....

I find both the show and the books outstanding. As do the majority of readers on this site as you can tell from the episode polls. Do I get upset when a change is made that I don't like? Ofcourse I do. Does that kill the overall show for me? Ofcourse it doesn't.

I'll even go farther and say that so far, I love the changes that D&D and GRRM have made in bringing this story to a visual medium, no easy task to say the least.

I will be let down if they cut out Jon and Arya's warging, but it won't "ruin" anything for me.

True, but when they do the Dany/Daario sex scene/s (there will probably be more than one knowing this show) it's gonna be kind of weird not seeing any nudity at all, like those dumb PG-13 movies. That's not how sex works, nor this show in the past.

Btw, was this contract altering recent? Because I remember there being talks of that before season 3 began, yet Dany was naked in 3x8, so then everyone's like "ohhhh, so it wasn't changed." Has it actually been changed this time?

Looking through the recent articles I could find on the subject--one of which claims that the change goes into effect for Season 4 (and have we seen her nude yet in Season 4?) all appear to trace to comment made by both Oona Chaplin and Natalia Tena to the effect that some actress in the show had gotten fed up with doing nudity, followed by rampant speculation that the actress was Emilia, so I apologize for not looking closer at the articles. It appears that The Sun might have been the first to twist Oona's comments into rumors about Emilia, and even if it wasn't the very first, it appears to have had a major role in spreading the rumor. Thanks for the correction.

It looks like, to the contrary, that the story (contained in some of the same articles) that Emilia will be appearing as Sarah Connor in a new trilogy of Terminator movies is actually true.

All good mate, it's easy to get twisted by those click-bait articles sometimes. I always thought Oona may have been alluding to Sibel, considering her past career. But that's just pure speculation on my part.

There was also a lot of speculation about it being Esme Blanco and cynics claimed her refusal to do nude scenes was why she was killed off. In the end I think it is just one of those things we will never know, like why Mountain V1.0 was cut.

Thanks. It's kind of frustrating at times because I have three jobs and I carefully sift through political and economic news, so it would be nice if the pop culture stuff would be a little more accurate. It's bad enough that I read the books three years ago after watching the first season and don't remember half the stuff in them, and have to keep asking about stuff if I can't find it in one wiki or another. After the latest season of the show started, I thought briefly about starting to reread the books, but I'm actually in the middle of another reread (Dresden Files) timed more or less to meet up with the publication of the newest book in about a month, plus I recall the first time through as a long, sometimes depressing slog. So it would be nice if people didn't publish blatantly speculative stories as though they had any substance to them. At least IMDb actually shows Emilia Clarke in Sarah Connor: Genesis. :P
