Yeah. I think you got me exactly. No notes.
And do you acknowledge why some are bringing this up now as a sort of wtf?

Well, that's a very human reaction, whether one agrees with it or not. Sentiments like these may be seen as cold and heatless when all you look at as, "man shot in the street by calculating stalker w/ an axe to grind". But that's not what it was. Well, it was and it wasn't. How many millions of people have had their lives ruined by health insurance claims being denied? I've read somewhere and full disclosure, I don't know whether it is true or not, that health care debts are the #1 reason Americans have to file for bankruptcy. And, if true [or close to it], that is fucking INSANE. The richest, most powerful and *exceptional* (lol) nation on earth won't provide universal health care for its own citizens, to the point that families end up filing for bankruptcy b/c of... healthcare! It's bonkers!
I have lost the count of how many foreigners I had to take to hospitals for medical care. Talking about volunteers who were doing very hard work, where work-related accidents were happening every other day. On two occasions I had to take Americans to hospital. At first they were freaking out about how much it would cost. Upon learning that it would cost them nothing - by law, free healthcare is available to any person in the country regardless of status - legal & illegal immigrants, tourists, whatever. They then started freaking out about the quality of the care they'd get - what with subjecting yourself to anything a sithothole country could offer you. And I'll tell you one of my biggest delights was seeing these two Americans waking up to the reality that their BIGGER BETTER RICHER MORE POWERFUL country wasn't doing what they could for their sick and injured. One guy had a compound fibula fracture that needed sx. It was all done quickly and he paid 0 for it.
This whole healthcare issue in the US is potentially HUGE, and hopefully this killing, awful as it was, might bring the convo to the forefront of a debate that could potentially bring positive changes, though I don't feel particularly optimistic about it given their lobby's strength - based on what I've heard from American friends.

Well yeah.
It’s called the status quo.
And to disturb the status quo is anathema.
Indeed. But disturbing the corrupt & exceedingly greedy status quo is the only way out of the mess the corporate neolib* mindset the have unleashed upon the people of the planet.
* this corporate neolib mindset has just now been "upgraded" to a corporate neolib broligarchy mindset.

Guys, when your girlfriend is suffering with a bad period, and tells you that you're lucky you don't have to deal with this every month, "what are you talking about? I do have to deal with it every month" is NOT the right response...
Bolded is 100% correct.

A 39-year-old man is in Mesa County Jail for attacking an employee of a Grand Junction television station after first confronting him about his nationality.
Patrick Egan faces charges of bias-related crimes, second degree assault and harassment, according to a press release from the Grand Junction Police Department. In a news story published Wednesday night, Grand Junction’s KKCO reports the attack occurred outside their station and that the victim was a KKCO news employee.
The employee suffered minor injuries, according to an arrest affidavit.
According to police, the victim was driving from Delta to Grand Junction when Egan began following him.
At a stoplight on Highway 6 and 50 near 25 Road, Egan rolled down his window and shouted at the victim, allegedly saying, “Are you even a U.S. Citizen? This is Trump’s America now! I’m a Marine and I took an oath to protect this country from people like you!” according to the arrest affidavit from the incident.
The victim then called the manager of the station who instructed him to drive back to the TV station. When he arrived, Egan again confronted him, asking for the victim’s ID. When the victim ran toward the door, he was tackled by Egan, according to the affidavit. Egan then began to choke the man before other KKCO employees intervened and held Egan until police arrived.

Doesn't asking for the death penalty increase the chances of jury nullificatíon?

The treatment of Luigi continues to be an incredible display of the two tier justice system for the public. Although they did seem excessive compared to the treatment all the other murders get in the US the terrorism upgrade to 1st degree does have a valid argument to it.
The ridiculous perp walk photo op for the Mayor and 50 heavily armed cops after his extradition to NY on the other hand is very clearly part of making an example out of him. And now they've added on federal charges of murder, stalking and a firearms offense relating to the silencer which bring the death penalty into play.
If they actually go for the death penalty they're going to have to fast track it if they want it to have any deterrence value but there's really no reasonable argument that could be used to explain why this one individual would be done in under 6 months but the rest take years to decades. It feels to me like it's going to convince a lot of people about unequal justice that would previously dismissed it.
Yeah, agree. But I have a feeling a few of these strategies could backfire. For instance, if they manage to fast track the trial, well, events are still pretty fresh in people's minds and the anger is real. I confess I was a bit surprised when I saw hardline maga types agreeing with "lefty radical loonies" aka dems on this issue. So fast tracking his trial and everything else you've brought up could very well make this guy a sort of martyr.

Did Trump endorse the deal at least in part b/c Musk spoke against it and people are saying Musk is co-president?

The Senate President Pro Tempore. This is traditionally the longest tenured Senator of the majority party, who will be Chuck Grassley come January - who’s 91. This is why that particular position really should be eliminated from the line of succession.
Holy smokes. And cheers!

Not that I'm taking this seriously, but since the Presidential Succession Act of 1947, there have been plenty of Cabinet members that should be in the succession except they are not eligible for the same reason. In such cases their spot is simply skipped over.
Then who would come next if Speaker fElon is skipped over?
I'm asking only to learn the proper line of succession past the speaker, NOT because I think this could ever happen (crosses all fingers and toes).

At least he admits he was wrong, but will his YT subscribers accept it?

Fuck that guy and all the others of the same ilk. And of course he won't even have to spend time in jail, he'll serve his sentence at home watching Netflix...

Near as I can tell, he's been a fairly progressive Democrat. The thing for me at this point is that it is about ageism, but it's going in the other direction. The older members of the party seem to be blocking the younger generation from coming up. It seemed like things were moving in the right direction with Hakeem Jeffries getting a seat at the adult table, but maybe not?
Ah I see. Tks for that, I had no idea. So that at least doesn't suck.
But I totally get and agree w/ your other point. Like Pelosi stepping down but now she's this éminence grise and has as much or even more power now! (Or so it seems at times.

Gerontocracy FTW.
Seriously though, it's not even about his age, but his thinking/politics. I mean, I know zero about this man but reports about Pelosi doing her thing behind the curtains to tank AOC basically tells me all I need to know. Bernie is what?, some 10 yrs older than this man? And no issues w/ his thinking/politics broadly speaking.

Eeelon's general intelligence shining like a wet turd here. Colonizing Mars may aid in gaining experience [and possibly furthering science] but it's a colossal waste of resources otherwise because... it's a fucking hellhole.
Mining the asteroid belt and working on drives that can get us to a more hospitable planet, that's the sauce.
Friend, you totes missed my point!
Since we're fantasing a bit and playing w/ different scenarios, I was just wishing upon a star that the parasitic top 10% could just bugger off n a spaceship! Destination: who the fuck cares!

We're very different people. If the world was ending and Musk and Bezos (or some future versions) were trying to escape on rockets with a cabal of the wealthy I'd gladly die to sabotage the launch. I'd rather our species comes to an end than it survive in the genes of the worst of us, those who could've used their wealth and power to save us all but continued down the path of greed, exploitation, and destruction to the great cost of the planet and species. Should they even be called human, they who are so lacking in humanity? What is survival without justice?
Yes, yes to [almost] everything you said here.
The one thing where we differ a bit - though it's different circumstances - is that I think instead of sabotaging their launch b/c the world is ending and these mofos should defo perish with everyone else, well, I'd rather things happened now. Meaning, I do hope they figure out everything about colonising Mars or Alpha Centauri or whatever as soon as fucking possible, pretty please. And then the top 10% can all fuck off and leave us plebs alone here. Who knows, without the bloodsucking parasites we may even avoid destroying the planet.

@Heartofice you forgot to mention in your last post that we're talking about an extreme Islamist Fundamentalist group.

Yeah, AQ bad, even when they're "on 'our' (the US) side", as Jake Sullivan stated to Clinton in an email.

The thing is, I do agree with Mitchell's opinion on Musk, on a surface level, but I also think that Mitchell only has that opinion because he's angry that Elon, with his rockets, is a very public face against flat earth beliefs. I'm happy to see people air him out- I just don't know that we need to use Mitchell in particular when there are plenty of people saying that sort of thing about Musk all the time.
I guess that's the point? That outside of Musk's cult of followers, people don't universally think highly of him.

I imagine you don't lack for competition in that department.
16 minutes ago, polishgenius said:but the person they're praising here is Bryce Mitchell, dedicated flat Earther who doesn't believe in seatbelts and once tore up his own nutsack with a power drill.
Yeah, Mitchell may be all of that and more, but it doesn't matter here. My point is, they're not praising Mitchell but rather commenting/agreeing on/with Mitchell's insightful (IMO) opinion of Musk.

I suppose it would depend on who owned all this "infinite energy". Just coz it's infinite doesn't mean it would be publicly owned and thoroughly available to all. Right?
