Platini has really messed up the best international tournament in the world. Fixing what wasnt broken Expanding the EURO from 16 to 24 teams is one of the worst, silliest moves of the last 50 years, as many people seem to realize. It is a uniformly awful and useless move. There are not 16 EC worthy teams in Europe at the moment. Expanding that to 24 only adds more cannon fodder. The sole underlying reason of course, will be financial.
