EW Reveals 7 Season Plan

Westeros

I was more surprised about it being episode 4 or 5. I know they'll show some stuff from AFFC this year, but thought they'd appear towards the end of the season. Episode 4 seemed kinda early? Oh well, we'll see soon I guess.

The producers mention in the interview that they added action scenes that don't come from the books, so it could be something like that.

It's speculation what the scene (the one that had to be toned own) was, there's nothing particular to indicate it was the ear biting. There are all kinds of other things it could be, my guess it is a Ramsey scene. I believe McLaren shot the scene where Theon had his Little Greyjoy removed, so it wouldn't be too surprising to me if it was another Ramsey scene.

I haven't seen anything to indicate the ear biting was in a specific episode, although I may have missed that.

Could be a Ramsey scene, or a Moutain scene , could also have something to do with the mutineers and Craster's daughters.

well they are going to need something to let people know the mountain that rides is extremely evil. I would bet 95% of the non readers don't know anything about the character.

Yes , some people are speculating they will show some version of the tavern 'incident'.

There is also going to be a scene I believe in episode 4 where Dany crucifies 163 slavers which could be pretty gruesome.

Could be, but I'm not sure that's gruesome enough.

It could also just be some random bit of violence to reintroduce the Mountain a few episodes prior to the big fight. There's really no way to tell from that interview if its something plot-important or not.

i heard somewhere they are going to have him reintroduced with the rape of the brewers daughter. if it's as disturbing as it was in the book, it might count.

Could be that scene with Brienne ripping off someone's ear. Maybe it was too visual.

i dunno if it would be more visual than when Gregor stabbed the guy in the throat during the tourney for the hand.

Over at WiC, they're discussing this same thing--what will the scene be that was so violent and disgusting they had to tone it down. Many of the same guesses as we're seeing here. And then, this...

Sex between Littlefinger and Lysa?

New interview with D&D confirming Werthead's assertion of seven not eight seasons:

http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/04/04/game-of-thrones-showrunners-season-4/

You’ve given the dragons their biggest growth spurt yet this season. What are they like this time?

Weiss: They’re entering their adolescence. They’re having minds and desires of their own and they’re staring to not be all that interested in what their mom has to say. And that’s difficult when your children weigh 1,500 pounds. They’re really pretty massive beasts.

Benioff: Think about the skull Arya hides in during season one — that’s supposed to be a full-sized dragon. And our dragons are still not even close to that. By the time we get to the end, season seven, that’s where they have to get to — assuming they survive.

They're saying "seven seasons" in one interview, then "seven of eight" in another, then seven again, then seven or eight again. Nothing sounds definite.

For instance, in other recent interviews:

I think you said to Mike Fleming of Deadline Hollywood that you see the show as eighty hours. Is that still the plan—eight seasons, ten hours a season? Are you still committed to that?

Dan Weiss: We know there’s an end somewhere in the seven- or eight-season zone. It’s not something that goes ten, eleven—it doesn’t just keep on going because it can. I think the desire to milk more out of it is what would eventually kill it, if we gave in to that.

"Jon now has a following among the younger brothers of the Watch, and his role as a leader is crucial in setting up the series' endgame," says executive producer David Benioff, who created the show, along with Dan Weiss, based on the epic fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin. "Season 4 is the pivot. Whether we go seven or eight years, we're smack-dab in the middle now."

I really don't think that they've made a decision between the two interviews, even if the one you quoted is the latest one.

The problem with eight or more seasons is the requirement to renegotiate all of the actor's contracts. Those who insist that eight or more seasons is feasible haven't adequately explained how this problem would be overcome.

Is it likely that HBO signs on to an additional season even if it means their labor costs skyrocket?

He’s credited as playing Thenn Warg in the fourth season of Game of Thrones, though that may be a bit of misdirection on the part of the producers since no character with that name exists in the books.

LMAO

That's why Wikipedia doesn't always help...

that's a lot of porn stars.

Yes, I'm guessing they're for the rape-y scenes with the Mountain at the Inn and the mutineers at Craster's.

I had to laugh, after the title talked about 'the sexy new stars,' Ah, there's sexy Oberyn. And sexy Ellaria. And...Mace Tyrell? And that Gatt person--that is a strange looking dude!

Wow thats a lot of new actors!

The Thenn guys look awesome. 3 porn actresses? I wonder what thats about.

Mace Tyrell looks gas. I always imagined him looking like Alissor Thorne since he's such a dick to Sam.

Oberyn is going to be amazing this season.

Edit: Assault on Moat Cailin!!!!!!!!!!??

Ros 2.0?

There’s no mention of a “Lhara” in A Song of Ice and Fire, but it’s been reported that a character named Lhara will appear in Season 4 of Game of Thrones, and will be played by Sarine Sofair—a redheaded British actress who’s had tiny roles in the recent films Anna Karenina, alongside Keira Knightley, and The Look of Love, opposite Steve Coogan.
