Bluemangosteen
I actually want to get a dog in the near future. Maybe after winter . I was wondering about breeds and care and all . Any advice would be welcome. :)Here is the what kind of dog is best for you quiz:http://dogtime.com/quiz/dog-breed-selectorMy beloved husky is gone. We just adopted a three legged Australian Shepherd, she was about to be euthanized as well. Just a few weeks after the adoption, she needed a double mastectomy - but she just keeps smiling ! Tears of Lys
There was a dog thread awhile ago, but I couldn't find it in the search, and it's not on the top five pages. How many of you have cool dogs? I have a 75lb, (almost) 2 year old Siberian Husky named.... well... Grey Wind. This was the first snow of his life at 11 months old... http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n272/filterpicskenny/7ILDr4VhiCQEr6UmVo5HCV3tHbKUltRcACiF2nzQ6m0D-rxC_me7zDvlcC-RCmBhaZ1-YKIEodqIyUHYASW4jw_zps6acfa56f.jpg And this was later that week when I built him a sled out of an old rocking horse. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n272/filterpicskenny/1608998_10101303343551055_1090240960_n_zps16b62488.jpg He is a legit bad ass. I and my parents had a total of three Huskies over the years. There is literally NOTHING like a Husky puppy - but so mischievous! And can they hold a grudge... I remember my parents' Huskies, Tasha and Tara; one time Tara stole some treat of Tasha's. Well, HOURS LATER after that insult, Tasha would give Tara dirty looks and growl at her if she approached. They're very smart dogs. And STUBBORN. You've really got to establish yourself as the Alpha, or all is lost. They're soooooo beautiful! But, man, do they shed! Good luck! There's a husky in our park called Chilly, his owner grooms him in the park, so there are great clouds of fluff floating round. The birds take it for their nests and sweat out the winter months. drawkcabi
I need to take more recent pictures of my dogs, I know I've posted these maybe half a dozen times, but for anyone who hasn't seen them... She recovered very well, but poor thing is slowing down and my dad still won't stop sneaking her food she is absolutely not allowed to have. Here is my other guy Sarge, we rescued him when he was 3, he's nine now. He's either a Pomeranian mix or just a big Pom.http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/000_0742.jpg.html?sort=3&o=41http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/000_0734.jpg.html?sort=3&o=44http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/000_0736.jpg.html?sort=3&o=43 Here he is through a shot in the screen door, doing his rolly polly in the snow, which he loves to do:http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/000_1323.jpg.html?sort=3&o=28 Winter in the snow:http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/000_1324.jpg.html?sort=3&o=29http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/000_1327.jpg.html?sort=3&o=32 And both:http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/000_1330.jpg.html?sort=3&o=35 Here is my Keeshond and Pom from the 90's/early 2000's Chase and Ciccio:http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/ChaseandCiccio1_zps4a78253d.jpg.html?sort=3&o=11 Chase on the sofa in the back room - she would get up and make herself comfortable like this all by herself:http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Drawkcabi/media/000_0167_zps398ce152.jpg.html?sort=3&o=118If she looks doped up, it's because she was, she had epilepsy and was on phenobarbital 3 times a day Live (poorly done) video of Chase and Ciccio:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icfQKBK7d5w

Yes! to the "great clouds of fluff." My folks live in a very small house, and to have two huge Huskies shedding balls and balls of fur all over everything was a sight to see. You could see when a patch of fur was due to shed - You could literally pull out "plugs." They've now passed on to their reward, but they lived till about 17-18 yrs., which is long for Husks, I believe.
Fragile Bird
Just for you George (my friend who owns him ( Diane ) sent this to me the other day) Life is full of coincidences AAaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww! :grouphug: He's almost identical to my old cairn terrier, Martin, except that he has a bit more brown in him. It used to be a rocking horse. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n272/filterpicskenny/1609307_10101303343146865_119041593_o_zpsd85c2ab3.jpg

Dr. Pepper
Can I ask for advice and recommendations in this thread? I have a standard poodle. He's cute and lovely and about one year old. And a mega chewer. Thankfully he only really chews on appropriate things. No chewed shoes or furniture in my house. Only one chewed quilt, but never happened again. However, every time I buy him a chew toy, it's demolished in minutes. Sometimes it last a full day before it's destroyed. So-called indestructible toys are total jokes to his jaws. I gave him some antlers the other day and he managed to break them in ten minutes so I had to take away. Kong toys ripped apart in seconds. I got this Nylabone brand indestructible toy that lasted almost a day, but it's too expensive to be something I'd use often. I gave him a large horse ball and it was in pieces after a few hours. I keep meaning to get a video of him destroying these things in such a short period of time. It's kind of amazing. So what to do? He doesn't chew inappropriate stuff and he's somewhat ok if he doesn't have a chew toy for a day or two, but he does get a little too close to chewing my shoes if he goes too long without a toy. Is there anything that is actually indestructible that I can offer this mega chewer? Some secret chew weapon that I've never heard of? Is it worrisome that he's such a monster chewer? Am I just going to have to wait until he grows out of his puppyhood need to chew?
drawkcabi
Dr. Pepper, My dog was like that when she was young. We couldn't give her large rawhide bones because she'd chew them until they were gone. Bones that were supposed to last for days would only last less than an hour and then she'd get sick. She also destroyed most of the toys we gave her. Like yours, she never chewed anything inappropriate though. We gave her nylabones but at least with her they lasted a few days to a week before they too were worn too far down. Her favorites are/were these though and they lasted the longest. When she we going at them the strongest I'd only have to change them every couple of weeks.
Spockydog
Funnily enough, Doc, I saw Wesley Chu (ha ha) talking about this on twitter the other day. He gives his dog something called a Destructosaurus which sounds like it might work for you. Can't comment on how good a product it is, as I've never had the need for ultra durable dog toys...
