The Riverlands Web V.6

And of course, we know we will likely see Sybell straight away in TWOW prologue, we won't have to wait long to have more info [we hope] and I feel she may be in danger.  If we do see an attempted rescue of Edmure + Jeyne, possibly involving BF, there will surely be casualties, and we last saw Sybell set up as basically a..... bitch.  So perhaps her time is up ?  There's a prediction for you, probably wrong as usual, but that's what I see happening, the attempted rescue at the least.   :dunno:

Sybell would be an interesting POV for the TWOW prologue and we all know what happens to the prologue POV characters...

…and an attack on the road seems to be a very real possibility, it is certainly a very real concern of Jaime’s as he has both Jeyne and Edmure travelling together. There are some interesting quotes in this chapter which all seem to point to a show down on the road and the threat also seems to come from the BWB…

The Lord of Riverrun went silently. On the morrow, he would start west. Ser Forley Prester would command his escort; a hundred men, including twenty knights. Best double that. Lord Beric may try to free Edmure before they reach the Golden Tooth. Jaime did not want to have to capture Tully for a third time.

And there is also an amusing nod that the Blackfish could be with the BWB:

"After the trouble Ser Brynden took to leave us, I doubt that he'll come skulking back." Unless it is at the head of a band of outlaws.”

And it seems the BWB have an inside man who would know the route and numbers heading off...

"Three knights and a dozen men-at-arms," said Rivers. "It is almost as if they knew that he would be returning to the Twins, and with a small escort."

Edwyn's mouth twisted. "My brother had a hand in this, I'll wager. He allowed the outlaws to escape after they murdered Merrett and Petyr, and this is why. With our father dead, there's only me left between Black Walder and the Twins."

"You have no proof of this," said Walder Rivers.

"I do not need proof. I know my brother."

"Your brother is at Seagard," Rivers insisted. "How could he have known that Ser Ryman was returning to the Twins?"

"Someone told him," said Edwyn in a bitter tone. "He has his spies in our camp, you can be sure."

This could get messy indeed! And with Jeyne and Edmure out of the Lannister’s hands that would change things up nicely!

Big Nyms also makes an appearance by attacking Ser Dermot on his search for Bryndon at the red fork (hurrah!)

The web thickens!

Bookie is back!

I need to read the new piece, but I was thinking about this before, and you provided the perfect quote.
The new Sansa chapter, there's a Red Wedding hint with Robb and then the very pointed spice remarks:

"Should we ever wed, you’ll have to send Saffron back to her father. I’ll be all the spice you’ll want."

And here in your quote, he's talking about the Spicers trading saffron:

He also mentions cloves in that passage.

Saffron as Jeyne Westerling (a Spicer) fits. Harry and Alayne are a political betrothal, like Robb and Roslin. And Harry loves Saffron. And here's more:

Saffron is pregnant with Harry's bastard.

While Harry is otherwise "engaged" with Saffron, Sansa has ghosts of Sandor dancing everywhere, throughout the chapter.

She literally runs into one (Harry the Arse!), bumps into another (he "caught her before she could fall"), dances with yet another (he mocks the knights and she laughs).

And much more (more here: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/123975-the-riverlands-web-v6/?p=6896958)...
  You are amazing! I love the saffron link. I just re-read the chapter and found this...

"Joy is my late uncle Gerion's natural daughter. A betrothal can be arranged, if that is your wish, but any marriage will need to wait. Joy was nine or ten when last I saw her."

"His natural daughter?" Lady Sybell looked as if she had swallowed a lemon. "You want a Westerling to wed a bastard?"

which made me think of
Alayne the bastard, who has a giant lemon cake made in her honour. Swallowing lemons indeed!
Thanks so much and jump on whenever.

No worries. My bad puns from time to time can be misconstrued as useless and I put a certain horse and dire wolf way too high on a pedestal. lol.

Hey now!  As another punster, puns are never bad, they're just under appreciated sometimes!     ^_^

Please don't ever stop! It's what makes this the pun-iest thread around!

...ok I will leave the pun jokes to you  :blushing:

Excellent!

And there's always the lure, away from the giant, to the dog, in the autumn grass:
Though snow had blanketed the heights of the Giant’s Lance above, below the mountain the autumn lingered and winter wheat was ripening in the fields.  Outside the window she could hear the laughter of the washerwomen at the well, the din of steel on steel from the ward where the knights were at their drills. Good sounds.
Sansa digs knights. She's dreaming of Sandor, she wants him to show her some world class jousting in the sack. :leer:

Also, the perfect horse for Stranger, like Jamie's horse in Outlander:

LongRider said it's a Friesian! And would be good for Sandor.

BTW, JCRB came up with "fuckable puppy" as a trope for Jamie (a puppy it would not be inappropriate to fuck!)

And who would fit that better than a certain dog in the story...

Nice quotes MMM !  Can't believe I haven't quoted that BF leading outlaws bit seeing how much I've chuntered on about him breaking Edmure + Jeyne free in this thread.  And I like the idea of Sybell being the P.O.V in the prologue, bookie able to see inside her mind and read her thoughts, we need this to happen, would be great !      :D

As for spies/informants, I think there are plenty available to the BWB, singers, [queen 'o'] whores, Lady of the leaves, pretty much all the families present at RR, strange fire signals, even people on Jaime's war council.  All the Darry men roaming the land seems odd as well, more likely some are a part of and passing info to the BWB imo.  And now the Frey's are blaming each other, perfect !  You're right, the web thickens.

By the way, I loved your humble acceptance of GRRM documentary fame, the perfect way to celebrate !

Hey! :) I remember we both liked the Cure, and the Clash, and stuff like that, too. We all had a good Riverlands sountrack going at one point!

Indeed, you inspired a listen to 'should I stay or should I go' which has been a regular ever since, love that tune !  The Riverlands soundtrack I agree is of high quality, and bookie keeps adding to the playlist, I'll have to up my game.  ;)

Also, I love the saffron/spice quotes, great work, as usual.  And I've missed a playful :leer:

Ok, I was unable to post all day. And now I am tired and can barely type, so I want to respond to all the posts I missed tomorrow. I am bleary-eyed and can't do them justice now.

But since I had this already. I want to leave a little something as promised. For everyone and for Mims who totally egged me on with the idea.

I just posted my take on what was going on in the heads of Jaime and Sybell and how I interpreted that. Here is Stranger at the King's Landing Riots for fun.

Enjoy.

And it is true. Because Stranger oh, so, conveniently left Sandor hanging and then he had to go back and find him, which was friggin' hilarious.

Stranger Clegane:

So the moron takes me with Joffrey and his stupid family throughout the streets of King's Landing. It's dangerous, the people are angry and just about to riot. Did I mention that they are all dumb? I mean, the people I am with, not the belligerent crowd which escalates with every step we take.

Sandor is sort of paying attention but he keeps looking at the red-haired girl all googly-eyed and like a lovesick dolt. Pathetic. Utterly sickening. All I can do to keep the apples down. I look away, remaining alert and continue to watch the crowd, and hoping nobody jumps me. Let them try. I go for the face, or whatever conveniently comes near my reach when I flail my neck out to bite. My teeth are ready.

This all starts because the loud-mouthed Big Baby King is mouthing off. Again.  Now, they have blinders for horse's like me, but what about earplugs? Sandor, my owner, well, his job is to guard the king which makes us pretty important. Me too because I'm his horse, as I often point out to him.  Sandor doesn't argue with me much because I told him I could buck, and throw his big ass off of me, and then he can walk. He could give a shit whether he is a knight or not, so not having a horse is no hair off his ass anyway. Not only would I be utilizing the earplugs for Joffrey the Jackass, but I would also use them when Sandor goes off on how pretty and sweet the girl that he is obsessed with, but won't give him the time of day is. Maybe I can buy them in the marketplace? That would be a plus. I can't take it anymore.

So what happens? The crowd starts throwing crap at Joffrey. I want to crack up laughing but I hold it in, because this loser is still the king. So I make a little noise and smirk but manage to control myself. So damn funny! Nice to see the bullshit get thrown back at him.

Sandor eyes the girl. He is so worried about her. Oooohhhh. Whatever. I roll my eyes. Maybe he should be thinking about me. I'm so over this. Done. I'm pretty valuable horse meat. And I'm a stud. Like I am up there supposedly in handsomeness to Silver Targaryen and stuff. Or Silver Drogo or however those nomadic savage weirdo Dothraki do the last name thing.

After my exhausting 15 nanoseconds of fame, the next stop for me is rehab to cure my blue Smartie addiction.

Good point, there are plenty of people that could be informing on Jaime's actions, it is Lannister karma paybak time! I had my money on Tom  O' Sevens but with the RL being such a close knit group it could be a very complex network of spies working with the BWB.

Sorry if I am rehashing any old discussion (this thread is so huge it is hard to remember), but there appears to be another spanner in the works for the Hound as Strongboar (Lyle Crakehall) is on the prowl...

Strongboar was the next to depart. He wanted to return to Darry as he'd promised and fight the outlaws. "We rode across half the bloody realm and for what? So you could make Edmure Tully piss his breeches? There's no song in that. I need a fight. I want the Hound, Jaime. Him, or the marcher lord."

"The Hound's head is yours if you can take it," Jaime said, "but Beric Dondarrion is to be captured alive, so he can be brought back to King's Landing. A thousand people need to see him die, or else he won't stay dead." Strongboar grumbled at that, but finally agreed. The next day he departed with his squire and men-at-arms.

He sounds pretty determined, do we think this could be significant? I might try and do a bit of digging on ol' Lyle and see if it throws up anything interesting.

As well informed as the Brotherhood is I find it unlikely that Strongboar will be unsuccessful and might find himself on the wrong end of a rope.  Its not a great time to be a Westerman in the Riverlands.

I can't see him finding the real Sandor.  He might just find the Hound (Lem) but I doubt it goes well for him.

With all due respect for the original Stranger, he was a bit of a dud.  However, he was safe for what was required of him.  Now with the Gravedigger being sprung, he could use all the pzazz he can get, and a Freisan would look good teamed up with him.

This is amazing

Stranger/SilverTargaryen, totally shipping that.

Easy now!  I thought his heart was promised to Sansa's fine chestnut mare!  Oh those stallions, so fickle.

Stranger Clegane! That was so perfect!

His family's sigil, three hoof prints and one ear.

As promised I located the conersation between Jamie, Walder Rivers and Edwyn Frey regarding the fate of Reynald.   Though I can't add anything to Wizz' offerings.   Because I have the books on my phone I have to read entire chapters to find what I'm looking for.   I worked backward and found the exchange almost immediately following the Westerling's leaving River Run.  When I read "Jamie let Honor feel his spurs" I thought of BookNerd's funny Stranger takes on life.   The Black Fish tells Jamie he doesn't know what honor is and Jamie quips back in his mind, "A horse".  It's interesting that this is Jamie's horse's name as I see Jamie heading toward becoming honorable.   I hope that Stranger's name is not an indicator of Sandor's destiny.   Actually, when Sandor was The Hound it was a comparative lesson about knighthood reading he and Jamie.    And I'll throw my 2 cents in about Sandor and Jamie intersecting soon.   It's curious that the BWB allowed Septon Meribald to go on his way.   I've been rereading this entire thread all weekend and found Lyanna's map to be most helpful--I wish I could just download it.   My supposition is that Septon Meribald is headed back toward the QI, perhaps for help for his companions.  If Sandor wasn't previously aware of Brienne & Co's quest he will be shortly.  If his transformation is as far along as we suspect, he will leave in a flash to at least get information from Brienne.  It's also curious that Gendry only accompanied Brienne a short way to her captivity.   What's up with that?   I propose that Sandor will meet Jamie with Brienne enroute to LSH.    It's not unthinkable that the BWB has had contact with Black Fish, after all, where did he go anyway?  I like the Black Fish as a leader for a committed group that has lost its way.   It's been theorized a great deal that he headed for the Vale, but he even told Jamie himself that his first duty was to protect his queen.  He's definitely going to make a play to rescue Jeyne and Edmure.   The first thing I thought reading Alayne is that someone will show up at this tourney.   I think with the abbreviated POVs promised for Winds it's safe to hope that Sandor, Jamie, Brienne and Black Fish will conspire to bring the BWB back to its honorable mission and make true knights of all 4 of them.   They would be The Formidable Four!

Have you tried using http://asearchoficeandfire.com/really useful.

I think its possible that Meribald and the QI could be working with the BWB. I mentioned it a page or two ago but didn't get much of a response.
