Yup, Easter holiday ... we do not get that in Slo either. Looks like Austrians are more traditional regarding religious holidays. ;)

But then I have lessons here till the end of June, which is longer than I would at the home uni. So there are good and bad sides.

Good day gang

Too little sleep here as well, but because I stayed up late and got up at normal hours anyway. How unwise.

Rhae, that must have been a great vacation! Tanned and everything :D

We never had spring break at uni either. For Easter we only had the friday and the monday off, so it was a long weekend.

I am surprised we get a whole month off for Easter, though i guess we have assignment deadlines during that time, and we have actually covered all of the course content now so its all exam prep. It is weird though, to think I am completely finished exams and classes by 14th May.

So, on the topic of easter, does anyone do.anything special? My family arenot religious, but we have the past few years had the extended family over and done a roast dinner

The schools here generally get about a week off for Easter (but we call it "Spring Break", can't appear religious, ya know :P ) but our county has lost 2 of their days because they had 10 snow days this year and only built 4 snow days into the schedule, so we get next Wednesday through the following Monday off.

One of those morning where Alex and I got distracted looking at geek themed lunch boxes and he missed his bus  I drove him to school, and I the elementary school right next to middle school this afternoon, so he'll ride home with me too. He's looking forward to my being at his school for 2 weeks starting Friday :)

I'll be the reading specialist again, this time for two weeks. :)

Thanks! I'm going to a place about 6-7 hours drive north from here, with my family. We have an old cabin up in the mountains where there are a lot of ski tracks in the forests, through the ravines and across the tops of the mountains. From there it's possible to ski right into Norway, it's close to the border. The mountains are like huge hills, that are flattened at the top since they are very weathered old mountains, not like the sharp pointy Alps. The view is stunning since you can see so far. We will only go cross country skiing this time.

Sounds great!

I was on vacation and I'm home now. Sad fact. I wish I could have stayed longer :(

Great to hear you get to visit home. Easter holiday, right? We don't have spring break in my school

At least that means it was a good vacation. Where did you go?

Welp....I'm worn out and my day only just got worse.

First, I have a big meeting tomorrow that I'm in charge of, in regards to many events throughout the year that I'm also in charge of. Stressful.

I have a certification test tomorrow. Stress continues, obviously.

I have a huge career progression test I have to take on the 30th. More stress.

Then I come home and find out the show is going to surpass the books for sure, the books I've been reading for 15+ years. Extremely irritated and not sure how I feel about it. Probably because I'm in a shit mood. And I'm more irritated because I can't find a thread about the news, so I have nowhere to vent about this particular ASOIAF related irritation.

Except to you spammers, who I can always count on.

Well that is a long summer!

We are usually at grandmother's for Easter and eat coloured eggs and ham and potica and all that.

Good luck with your career!

Stop watching the show? This is what I am doing. I unfollowed the GOT facebook page today and I mean to stay only in this part of the forum. Problem kinda solved. I do not think I can avoid all the spoilers, but I will do my best to avoid as many as I can.

I was off all last week, off all this week and for another two weeks. :P we get really long breaks here, lol. Schools usually get about 2 weeks for Easter.

Well I'm home. I spent the entire day at court with my mum, from like 8am - 4pm. She lost her case. The witnesses were unreliable, weren't even sure of what they were saying and had many conflicting statements. Our lawyer made a very strong case for her, the evidence given in her favour was also very strong but in the end she was found guilty based on something she didn't even do (hitting the cyclist) - just because the unreliable witnesses said so. And even our lawyer agreed that those witnesses can't even have seen what happened because from between where they were supposedly were in their car and the location of the incident, there is a deep bend and there is NO WAY they can have seen what had happened from the location they said they were at. Me and my mum checked there. Multiple times. Also in their statements the times they said they left from their homes at.. are about 15 mins AFTER the incident took place. How the fuck can they have been there lol. But meh whatever. She said she'd pay the fines and take the 3 points on her license instead of appealing as it would cost way more and cause a lot more stress. Sigh. I've had a horrible headache all day and barely ate until now.

Also, did anyone hear about the Germanwings plane crash? :( those poor people.. I can't even begin to imagine what the families must be going through. Waiting for someone to come back from vacation and learning that in fact they will never be coming back. My heart goes out to them all.. a sad, sad day.

Thanks.

And yeah, I wish that was an option for me. Well it is, but it isn't. I would rather the show "ruin?" it for me than my countless friends who are "show only" watchers who would tell me by accident at some point. I'll also end up reading about it somewhere.

I suppose I'm not too disappointed. The books are by far superior, so even if I watch the show I'll read the books in the end because the overall story is a masterpiece. But I'll still be irked when I'm reading and already know the major plot-points.

But the way I look at it, is that over the years I've read the books (and listened to the audio formats by Roy Dotrice) several times over. Even having already known the book's end, I still enjoyed the story.

In short: I'll live.

Most schools have a spring break here too. I think it's only us and the engineers who don't get spring break. We only have Easter Monday off because the world is unfair like that. Not that anybody is bothered by that. People make their own spring break , skip the classes and travel somewhere anyways. Another reason why I don't see the point of not having one.

And YES, I haven't been this tanned in years 😈 I'm thinking it'd be safe to say I haven't been this tanned for a decade. Nah. I'm not that old yet. Let's agree in 7 years.

First, I was in Thailand btw.

As for the show surpassing the books. You guys know, I might not be very popular with this opinion, but I can understand. And as much as the show pisses me off sometimes, I don't think there's anything that would make me stop watching it. Especially not surpassing the books. GoT is the most watched series of HBO, an individual business that cannot afford waiting another 15 years for GRRM to finish the bloody books. The audience wants the next season. Now I'm saying this as someone who got into asoiaf through the show, so obviously Im a lot more forgiving than people who read the books first and watched it being adapted.

I started the books before I was 15; what with my dislike for the last book and especially GOT's last season, I'm quite ready to get it over and done with.

I've never been there, I'm glad you enjoyed it though.

I agree. I read the books before watching the show (even though the show was already well into its second season when I started), but I understand why the show won't wait.

And even though I've been waiting for TWOW way shorter than a lot of fans, I'm ready to find out how it ends, at this point it's just reading water. At least this way we're guaranteed that we'll find out how it ends within a couple of years.

As a writer, I guess it just peeves me that someone else will tell his story.

I guess if they paid him millions, and on top of that it is a great show, it might be worth it. But I don't know...I'd almost rather George give me a call and say, "So Steve...this is how it ends," rather than watch it on the show.

Even if it was just a few things:

1. Who are Jon's parents and whether he's alive and all that.

2. How Cersei dies...she better die and it better be outstanding.

3. What kind of cool stuff does Bran do?

4. What's up with the White Walkers and the Children of the Forest?

5. Do all the Freys die?

6. Does Tyrion find out where whores go?

That's really all I need to hear from him. It could be a 30 minute conversation that I'd truly enjoy.

7. Wait, I want to know who Arya kills and what happens to her.

8. And does Jorah get back in Dany's good graces even though she doesn't deserve him? :D

Tbh, GRRM chose to tell them the ending, so whether they essentially wrote his ending or he did, was entirely in his power. As for it being spoiled, well, this has been on the cards for some time. Let's face it, it never looked as though the books would be finished before the show.

It peeves me too, but I'd prefer finding out through the show than through a phone call. I'd rather see it directly than hear it indirectly.

And I'd want to know waaay more than those 8 questions :P

I've been expecting it for months, there was no plausible scenario where GRRM would finish first. Idecided long ago that I wouldn't wait for the books. I nearly came back on that decision but I'm stickng with it. Besides, there's no way I'd manage to keep myself spoiler-free for all the years between the final episode and the final book, especially not with friends who watch it and all the media attention to GOT.

I agree with first and Koa. I'd really really love to see the end of the story. It was one thing to grow up with Harry potter but ASOIAF has been stretching for almost as long as I live and we still don't see the end. I honestly doubt that I could ask for the last book as my thirtieth birthday present and, man, that's something to say.

Whatever ending HBO has in store for us, I will welcome.

Internet gossip: Twitter kept claiming the other day that GRRM cancelled tons of public appearances because he wants to finish twow. Now I have no idea if he did cancel those appearances and if he indeed canceled them why he cancelled them. Maybe he really wants to wrap up twow because he is tired of the fans' whining or doesn't want to be a decade late to the show ending or caught the same cold Putin did, but this makes want to see the end of the story even more, be that in book or show format.

I do wonder if we ever find out about Jon's parents in the show though, because it's not a topic that was even distinctly kept in focus since episode two of season 1. :dunno:

I think everybody knows and understands that the show cannot wait, nobody expects it to.

I wish GRRM had not told them about the ending. Then they would have invented something, whatever, and GRRM would still be free to finish the books in his own time without the possibility of spoiling through the show.
