Do you think HBO would cancel the series before we get to the scheduled series finale, if the ratings were bad enough? They already are contracted till s6 and want to finish at s7. So unless everybody stops watching for the next 14 episodes then no it would be renewed. Now, you might say, well it may not have season 7, but they can still wrap up plot lines, albeit very quickly, just fine. The truth is, GoT can very quickly end with everyone just dying in an instant in one global bloodbath, and that would be perfectly consistent with how everything has played out so far, no? Takyon Posted May 20, 2015 Share Posted May 20, 2015 Nobody expected Twin Peaks to sizzle merely two seasons in, but the show eventually lost control of itself and forgot what made it popular in the first it.I somehow don't expect GoT to not make it to the seventh season but if GoT's climax is going to be centered on war, budgeting will be a big issue.and if HBO don't see the same numbers that season four was packing, the bucks may not be there. Numbers have only slightly dropped and remain very high for a TV show, but downloads keep increasing, which shows you that it's becoming more popular every week but not all watch it live on TV. If GOT ratings suffered tremendously, I have no doubt that HBO would not spend millions of dollars to produce a show just for the few fans they had left. I'd give that scenario about a 1% chance of happening though. As to the person that cited the pirated number: HBO would want that number to go down instead of up. They can fund production of a Season 7 from the additional video sales alone. At this point HBO are making clear that they would prefer more seasons, not less. Game of Thrones is the reason they can launch selling HBO direct to the customer. It is only D&D saying they are going to wrap in 7. But there are rumors that the big five characters signed options for an eighth. I can't see how the producers cap the season at seven. There is a lot of stuff still to do. It seems some people are confusing the audience numbers peaking with the numbers actually dropping significantly.Perhaps if the numbers drop dramatically it could derail the potential addition of an 8th season. Catastrophic ratings could certainly see season 7 and obviously 8 get canned.2 - but ratings are holding up very well, as is merchandise etc. It seems almost totally implausible that ratings will enter sufficiently 'catastrophic' territory before the end.
