Worst dialogue yet

I've noticed that they make the characters talk too much. Silent scenes are more powerful. Show, don't tell. Arya's dialogue in this episode is shitty too;when she kills Meryn Trant and just talks and talks and talks, totally ruining a powerful moment and death. Regarding Dorne, everything about it in the show is an outright travesty.

The whole thing about Jaime not caring about the children is not true either. He's just bitter about it and has done what he always done: pretend he doesn't care, "go inside". When he hears about Joffrey's death he's casual but he then says "and this time, I will hold (a new baby) in my arms". He wanted to do it with Joffrey and Cersei didn't allow it. She made him resign to his paternity so he had no other choice but to step aside. This is something that happens often in our times too: women make all the decisions because somehow society believes no man wants to be a father and all of their children are happy accidents while women are better parents by default. I do remember a local case in which the judge granted a women full custody just because she was the mother despite she was declared clinically insane and ended up killing the child, even thought the father was in a better position to raise the kid. I personally congratulate GRRM for including this important topic that is many times left aside.

My point was that from outside perspective Jaime cares for his children just as much as Robert did, remember we don't have Roberts POV so we can't say that he didn't have caring moments in his mind(when he was sober). We know that he somewhat cared about Edric Storm. Though it is true that Jaime must be careful about that.

How old are they meant in the show? 18? Completely normal.

And as Sam pointed out it there is no rule that forbids sex.

But is it necessary for the show? At this point in the show?

D&D have shown they are bros with the mentality of 15 year old boys. Horny, obnoxious 15 year old boys.

Hell, it may as well been them sitting there, riffing. Because that's all this adaptation is...misunderstood sweet boys being rejected by harlots who GET what they deserve....mother figures with limited sexual roles (ew, mom sexual?!!!)...bad ass knights....gay gay gay as seriously gay guys, but it's ok, we approve!....HOT older woman---like that hot Dutch teacher we had with the killer boobs She's a MAN-EATER--less talk MORE BEWB....kick-ASS female knights who aren't complex, F THAT, THEY KICK ASS...LOOK AT THIS WOMAN KICK ASS DAMN SHE KICKS ASS LIKE SHE'S PRACTICALLY A MAN.....

They are writing this show as a personal extension of their bro lives...out of the limitations of their bro brains...and making the characters and plot suffer for it with all the crappy dialogue and shitcuts....

Pardon my French.

They took a complex family tragedy in a beautiful world and turned it into a buddy comedy with an Oriental backdrop.

Reminds me of those fun romps across the Orient or down in ol' Me-Hi-Co with a witty smoothtalker and a gabby scamp of a man that were abundant in the 40's and 50's.

Meaning: not something I ever want to see near anything inspired by ASOIAF. But my oh my, do D&D love their buddy comedies.

Dorne has been the one major disappointment for me this season, was really looking forward to it but it's all felt rather pathetic and a poor excuse for a story thread. I'm not saying the books are perfect here but they make Prince Doran seem a lot more calculating and the Sand Snakes sound a lot more capable.

The kiss of death really annoyed me actually.

It was pretty bad, but i would take 10 seconds of porny dialogue over 5 minutes of "profound" monologue like the beettle speech anytime.

I have to agree with you here. As much as I hate Bad Pussy, at least it was only a second and made me laugh. The beetle dialogue took precious time away from far more important matters, was incredibly circlejerky and cringey, and honestly made absolutely no sense. And that's without even touching upon the fact that Tyrion (a man with a disability and who has been judged for his disability his entire life) is making fun of a relative with a disability without any qualms.

It's probably my most hated scene in the entire series, and that's saying a lot.

Absolutely agree - the dialogue was completely terrible, as the writing was most of the season. Any show that has lines like the "bad pussy" one is one to run away from. And don't you think it will get better.

As for Darkstar - when are people getting that his line makes much sense in context - it even is a witty answer to Myrcella's question. I'm not saying it is a great line, but it is clever dialogue seen in context. He is not defining himself there, but, possibly, even making a joke.

Agreed about Darkstar (and your other points, of course).

The dialogue all season long was shoddy half assed and not good enough. There's no imagination or consistency whatsoever. It says a lot when the only strong scene from their finale involved Cersei acting without having to utter any of this garbage

It says a lot that the best scene was a scene with no dialogue.

"Bad Pussy" was such a bad line and so horribly misplaced it actually made it hilarious.

I still laugh every time I think about it. I really cannot believe that they used that line.

Absolutely. Best laugh I've had watching a show in a while, including any comedy.

That...their Charlie's angels fight with Jaime and Bronn, their slappy hands. Everything the sandsnakes did could go on this list.

Yup. I mean, did anything good come out of Dorne (in before I hear Tyene's breasts )

If you guys consider the Myrish Swamp to be masterful writing, then the Bad Pussy should be utter genius.

Just because we think something is laughably bad in the show doesn't mean there aren't examples of bad dialogue in the books. We can have both, you know.

(Even so, I disagree with your example for the reasons already stated - there's a vast difference).

I watched this scene with my mother in the room. Awkward.

The line itself was total cheese, but what made it worse was that it came from someone who we're clearly supposed to understand as a character, but who I think I can safely say, none of us do.

I mean, the Sand Snakes/Ellaria are a social commentary on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, right? And Tyene is a tit-baring Raphael...I mean, I just thought, with the sais as her weapon of choice and all...and Raphael WAS the slutty Ninja Turtle...No?

Just the fact that they thought we would like the Sand Fakes and relate to them and want to see more of them is funny enough :)

To paraphrase another boarder here: The Sand Snakes were meant to be badasses, but instead all we got were bad pussies

 that's brilliant!!

Nobody dislikes the line because the image is disgusting (she uses a metaphorical sense of bad anyway). Just because something is disgusting it doesn't mean it's bad writing. Context is everything.

:agree:

No, the stuff with Myranda did bother people but that is not what this thread is about. The thread is focusing on this particular line of dialogue.

Right, I don't know why it's impossible to assume that just because we discuss one bit of dialogue we don't like, we don't dislike other bits of dialogue :dunno:

No, apparently you can only dislike one piece of dialogue and that's it!

Not in our context it wouldn't be no.

When its between the lord commander and a member of the NW its a bit different. I would imagine Jon to be of the opinion that he'd rather not know.

The fact Sam asked to go to Oldtown and it happened this late in the day was odd, it was like

"Hey Jon, me old buddy I don't really fancy this imminent unstoppable army thing, it ok if I take off where its safe for a few years to study? And if the NW would pay my tuition fees too that would be swell"

"Ok mate, why not, there are no pressing concerns here"

"And I'm gonna take that Gilly with me too I think, am getting my end away on the regular and I like it, shagging is great - balls to these vows!"

"Oh aye pal, crack on with that, I'll stay here with the clearly mutinous NW and wait for the walkers and the night that never ends to arrive. you lucky dog you!"

 I...I think I love you.

Exactly. We are pressed for time people. Can we be okay assuming they joked and gabbed about sex to each other off the show, do we really need to see it when there are more pressing matters to discuss in this one 5 minute scene that we get with them?

People are saying that we should assume he told people about Hardhome and didn't need to see it. To which I say: or, we could actually see him talking to people about Hardhome, instead of him joking about sex. Then we could assume he talked about sex but know for sure he talked about Hardhome. The show needs to show what's important. This dialogue was not important.

Also the point is moot because logically if he had told people about Hardhome they shouldn't murder him because then it makes no sense. The truth is: we didn't see him talk to anyone else about Hardhome because that would have negated the purpose for a stabbing scene.

Another example of making characters stupid to get them to where you think they need to go.

The D's: We love Dorne.

Result: A horrible butchered mess of a plot-line.

The D's: We think Stannis is awful and driven by ambition.

So at least they're consistently bad.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've prepared a blood magic ritual for my Game of Thrones blu-rays.

"The usurper David Benioff, the usurper Dan Weiss....."

 that's for sure. Whether they love you or hate you, your plot line is going to get butchered. Maybe you'll come out looking alright (St. Tyrion and Cersei) or maybe you won't (Sansa and Dany).
