Westeros
Like the title says, EW has the exclusive revealing that Ian McShane—best known for his role as Al Swearengen in Deadwood (one of the finest TV shows ever made, by the by)—will be joining the cast for season 6 in a role described by EW as having a “relatively small amount of screen-time during the season” but that the ” character is of key importance.” Let the speculation begin. Drogon's Personal Trainer
Does a relatively small amount of screentime rule out Euron Greyjoy?
Mark Antony
Howland Reed :D
King Tyrion I
Howland Reed :D :agree: For the ToJ.
Nictarion
Wouldn't McShane be too old to play a young Howland Reed?
Mark Antony
Definitely too old for a young one.
Lordsteve666
He'd be great as Euron but I feel that would play too close to his role in Pirates of the Caribbean and some viewers would have a problem with that.
Christi84
I can see him as the older Howland Reed having a flashback...hes the only one alive who was there and would be the only one to have theres doubt in me that D&D would attempt to have the flashback using Bran, but both characters could be used to send Reed to the Wall and tell Jon who he is
D-Shiznit
Can't be the mad king, probably be Howland Reed. or...... the voice of the Nights King?
RGBeyondAsshai
In another thread Randyll Tarly was mentioned.
Rise Above
I HOPE he ends up playing Euron and not some shitty role like Manderly. I guess Randyll Tarly would be alright. I just don't want to see Al Swearengen softened.
Ran
Typecasting an actor is a poor way to show admiration for them. I'm betting Elder Brother/Meribald -- not a lot of screen time, but pretty sure this character will introduce the return of the Hound, thereby being "important". I just don't want to see Al Swearengen softened. It says his character is central to a protagonist's storyline. Also, little screentime but very important. Tarly and Euron should have decent roles. I think it's Marwyn.

True, but I also wouldn't want to see an actor shoehorned into a role out of his element just to give him something new for the sake of it. Or more to the point: I just wanna see the dude play Euron  Either way I'm happy, as I love McShane and I'm sure he'll kickass with whatever they give him. Just don't want a repeat of what they did with Adewale last season. You can't just hire Adebisi only to give him some 3 minute throwaway part :bang:
Lord Hanna
As i said in the other thread..... Tinfoil = He is Griff/Connington, who will only appear at the end of the season, hence small role. With the rumor of GOT going more than 7 seasons, it wouldn't be impossible. But as i said....tinfoil.
Ran
"Out of his element" is silly. He's been acting for over 50 years! He's played a lot of roles, running the gamut of genres and character types. Before he was famous as Swearegen, he was best known as Lovejoy, the unctuous antique dealer in a comedy-drama sort of thing. He could play a Manderly-type character pretty well, I suppose. That said, I'm pretty sure that's not in the cards.

Mark Antony
Saw some people on reddit speculating Rickard Stark in a flashback, would be pretty cool. I like the Meribald guess

I've been rereading ADwD and keep thinking that there's way too much time spent on the Griff family for it to be completely written out of the show.
