Paxter
Hmmm I'm still not convinced that there is much of a difference in home/away advantage. Saw an article today that NZ didn't lose a test at home between 1979 and 1991...granted the Black Caps are on a great home run now, but that seems similar to decades gone by.What we really need is some statistical analysis on it, rather than relying on anecdotes (haven't been able to find a decent analysis so far). Actually they lost 2 (out of 37) in that time period. Their longest streak is 13 (1987-1991) which they can tie in the next match against SL. Paxter
I stand corrected! You'd think they are odds on to tie (and probably beat) that streak, Sri Lanka's record in NZ is utterly abysmal.
desire
Looks like NZ on a path of a good win. Decent test match tbh
Arataniello
One of the treats at Christmas this year is looking forward to Test Match Special commentating on England vs SA from Boxing Day. The full TMS team in SA, three days off work to listen, and hopefully decent matches on which to commentate (unlike the terribly dull series in the UAE vs Pakistan). Paxter
Great come-from-behind win from the Black Caps. Williamson shows yet again why he is the best batsman in the world ATM.

williamjm
Farewell McCullum one of the greats.Seems a bit surprising he's going to retire before the World T20 and not having one last attempt at helping NZ to win a major competition. Paxter
Anderson is in doubt for the Boxing Day test - bit of a shame but this should still be a good series against SA. Both teams will be smarting from recent defeats in the subcontinent/Middle East and will be keen to bounce back.
Stubby
I reckon this might be one of the first boxing days in recent history where I don't watch the MCG test match. Two reasons: first is that we are going to see Star Wars at some stage that day and the second is that the England v SA match might well be more entertaining. Consigliere
Really looking forward to SA v. Eng. This looks like it is going to be a close series between two fairly evenly matched sides. There are vulnerabilities in both sides batting lineup with the SA top order looking more shaky than they have in many a year. The England top order should have received a confidence boost with each of their top six batsmen having scored 50 or more, including centuries from Cook and Root, in the warm-up matches. ljkeane
Woakes is in for Anderson for tomorrow's test. That's a bit of a blow for England, the South African batsmen by and large aren't in great form but they've got some quality players so England could do with getting on top of them early. On the plus side apparently Broad, Finn and even Ali are looking quite good.

williamjm
England's latest attempt at an opening partnership hasn't got off to the best of starts, although there can't be many more difficult situations to make a Test debut than opening on what seems a helpful pitch for the bowlers against Steyn and Morkel. Compton and Taylor do seem to have stages a bit of a recovery, but the South Africans still have the advantage.
Consigliere
Very good partnership between Compton and Taylor. The Test is evenly balanced at the moment. Wonder how much play we will get after tea as light is a major issue in Durban. We'd be lucky to get 90 minutes.
ljkeane
Good first day's play so far.Really good effort from both Compton and Taylor to get England back into the game, Compton especially given how early he came in. Root will be pretty gutted with getting out first ball to the spinner after getting past the seamers.ETA: Damn, we could have done with this partnership still being in tomorrow. Excellent innings from Taylor though.
Consigliere
Honours fairly even after day 1. Perhaps SA have a marginal edge after picking up the wicket of Taylor. Excellent partnership with Compton though, and at a crucial time. England were in a bit of a hole when they came together.
