Otherwise fireworks in general would be way less popular in central Slovenia, the fog is often so thick you cannot see much anyway. It was probably more that selling and buying non-essential stuff was almost impossible for most of the last few months. Regardless, why go back to loud explosions next year anyway? I have never had the least interest in being there and never have been in all the New Years I've lived here. But seeing it deserted and with all these tawdry circus-carny midway flashing lights and strange decorations ... another piece of my heart was broken by 2020. Turns out it's a real thing, an initiative from the World Economic Forum, fronted by Prince Charles. The aim is to reshape the global economy for a post Covid world. Responsible capitalism. On the face of it, it looks quite good. Save the planet, address poverty and inquality. But some of the gammon factions are losing their shit over it, because, well, socialism or something.
