Help me lose (or gain) weight

Grats Lany! Remember you're just starting! Focus on your future vision!

Eef, sounds like you really have this down. Don't let anything slow you down.

Emilie, grats on being so close to your goal! I'm curious, though, do you weigh yourself at the same time every day? My weight varies 2-3lbs based on the time of day. (Granted, I am 2.5 of you.)

Mine varies like 5lbs

I love broccolini to bits. Along with Bok Choy, it seems to be everywhere right now, and I'm enjoying every second of it. Can't find any turnip greens though, which I am craving. Maybe they just throw the tops away in Scotland?

In the land of deep fried Mars bars, the answer to this is probably yes. ;)

I was just thinking I needed something warm to drink, and this thread gave it to me: green tea! I'll go put the kettle on now. :)

I'M THERE! I DID IT!!! I MET MY GOAL TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!!! And may we all join you there soon.

Time to go buy some new clothes to celebrate, right? And the tighter the better; got to show off all that hard work after all. ;)

Well, I got on the scale this morning to find a somewhat disappointing 209.2 lbs. But... muscle weighs more than fat, right? Right? :uhoh:

It's really not that bad. Probably, it's actually very good that, cosidering the shit I've been eating the past few months, I'm only up by 2 lbs (granted that's after a week and a half of diet and exercise).

I'm setting the goal of 190 lbs by July 17th.

Now I've got 2 diet breaking weekends to get through. This weekend I've got to take the gf out for Mother's Day - we're going to the Texas Roadhouse, which is probably the worst place one could go to while dieting. And next week is my daughters birthday, so it'll be greasy cheeseburgers and cake. For now I'm hoping simply to break even. It probably is not unrealistic to expect a small loss, but I'll count that as a bonus if it happens.

:BigHappyDance:

:D

I'm back down 2lbs today so I think yesterday was an anomaly. I was also able to catch up the exercises-but I think I'm going to wait one more week before I step the weights to 5X a week... I lost some motivation this week and I'm afraid that if I step it up too much I'll burn out. I think I will get back on the elliptical tomorrow... and my coupon to the 'Y' is going to expire next Friday. And next Friday/Saturday I'm going to be standing around in the hot sun at the Special Olympics Summer Games. :)

I meant to ask: Has anyone done a colon clense (I think someone mentioned it)? I have to do one next week and was wondering if people actually lost significant weight from it.

Yes, Lany. There's lots of different kinds of colon cleanses, and heh, I've probably done them all! Cleansing is hard work and you really need to set aside time for it if you are going to take it seriously, because it is unrealistic to try to cleanse and keep up with your normal life and activities. I like to do the Master Cleanse every couple of years (lemon water, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup, and nothing else) I usually make it about 4 or 5 days, and then gradually add back vegetables. The standard Master Cleanse lasts 10 days but I can't make it anymore. This makes me lose 3-4 pounds in a very short period of time. I don't have much to lose, and I'm not a big eater in the first place. I do this more for the practice of fasting and mental transformation.

I have also done fiber-based cleanses using pysllium husks and various kinds of clay which are more directed at the digestive tract. These are easier because you don't feel as hungry, but again, the consequences of cleansing can make it diffucult to keep up with everyday life. You have to be prepared for the physical and mental effects of fasting, which can be unexpected if you haven't been there. I usually lose 2-3 pounds over a couple weeks with this one, too, and I do it after I have had a particularly bad few weeks of diet, like if I have been on a trip or something where good food wasn't available.

Finally, I have done colonics, which might be what you are referring to? Colonics is basically a water enema, administered by a health professional. You don't have to go on any special diet before it, but I have usually been motivated to clean up my eating act before and after a colonic therapy. My experience with colonics is that you do lose a little weight, mostly because there is junk that comes out of your digestive tract, and it reduces the tendency to bloat and retain water for a short period of time. It is a short term thing, and cannot replace lifestyle, exercise, and dietary approaches to weight loss. It is a little uncomfortable, too. The nurse I used to go see said it was a very good thing to do for your bowel, especially if your diet has been very poor for a long time.

I've never seen the point in a colon cleanse to lose weight. Sure, you drop water and excrement from the body, but it doesn't drop any fat off of you. So unless you needed to be a target weight I've never seen the point of these other than for a health reason.

I broke pretty hard yesterday.

*shrugs* shit happens.

I'm just feeling stunningly unmotivated the last couple days. I reckon I need to get laid so I can feel the embarassment of appearing naked in front of a woman. I need something, that's for sure.

Congrats, Em, on reaching your goal. :)

Just look at some porno at think "when I get to my goal, I'm gonna get a woman who looks like that". Lifts me up (lol) when I'm feeling unmotivated.

I am not doing it to lose weight, I am doing it for a colonoscopy. It would be nice to know that a good five pounds of crap (litteraly) are gone from my body. I try really hard not to be, but I am a numbers driven person. (and I am getting close to my previous plataue point, so it might help me "mentally" get over that spot)

I do have to fast for 24hrs first, and let me tell you that is going to KILL me. It is the last series of tests I need though, so I guess I will tough it out.

Fasting before surgery SUCKS (and I've had to do it a few times before). I've never had to do 24 hours, but "have a normal dinner around 6 pm the night before and NOTHING to eat or drink after midnight" is pretty standard. And sucks. Because you never want a drink of water more than when someone has told you that you cannot have that drink of water!!!

 I know. I can have "clear fluids" the day before. I think that includes sugarfree jello. I can't even imagine trying to have jello and water all day long and be able to work. I think I will sit at my desk and bitch all day. :P

Colon cleanses are a big scam. There IS NOT 15year old shit stuck to the inside of your intestines, people. Anyone who believes this nonsense is just completely ignorant of their bodies. The medical ones are different -- they simply want nothing at all in your intestines when they put the catheter up there. And the mud butt inducing 'drinks' they make you suffer through certainly clean you out.

A 'cleanse' diet is starvation. Of course you lose weight when you starve yourself. Sort of makes sense, huh? Adding thermogenic compounds such as cayenne pepper might induce a faster metabolism. (Meaning your body will eat muscle and fat a bit faster.)

And anyone who suffers through the taste of these acacia berries deserves the shite taste. And I have a bridge to sell them.

ETA: I am not making a judgement on the mental and spiritual effects of fasting. I know nothing about it. I am simply talking about weight loss and colon cleansing.

Congrats, Chataya!

I broke pretty hard yesterday.

Me too. Too much emotional crap going on. :( Plus, it would be nice if it were actually warm enough to garden (ie above freezing).

Same here. Too many things going on. I fail at sticking to my own decisions. :(

ahem.

in terms of MOR I fell off the wagon completely these last two days. I rationalized it by needing something 'good' when my car battery died, but truthfully I'd actually already fallen off a bit earlier in the day at work. I did not have a meal plan for this week and it really shows a dramatic difference. Weekend homework: make a meal plan for next week.

in terms of my MoR, I challenge anyone here to do the following:

take your absolute favorite danger food you know, love, and crave and put it in front of you. then sit there staring at it for twelve hours and don't take a bite. this is what life is like driving the cab and trying to maintain a diet plan. I have massive amounts of downtime, and I pass by a Dairy Queen perhaps a dozen times per day. surely some people are strong enough to go into the zen focus and control, but I am not.

anyway, I'm still losing weight, just at a pace that could best be described as "glacial."

Clearly you don't hate yourself enough. If you had the proper amount of self-loathing, you wouldn't touch it. I like to use motivational phrases like, "Hey fatass, gonna stuff your face with chocolate?" and "That thing probably has 1000 calories, all of them empty, which means you'll feel like shit after you eat it. You don't need that, lardbutt."

I'm a little bit more "motivational". I chant to myself "Nothing tastes as good as looking good looks. Nothing tastes as good as looking good looks."* There are candy jars and baskets everywhere, as it is seemingly everyone's mission in life to get their co-workers fat. We also have the obligatory birthday celebration once a month, where 10 different kinds of cake are brought in from a local bakery (varies every month), and sometimes, we have competitions such as a chili cook-off.

Gawd yes - it is like let us all get fat at work. Monthly luncheons and b-day cakes. /gag gag gag

Thank goodness no one cooks that well.
