Topic: Gendry forging stuff

People: But he's not a masterful craftsman!

Me: I know! Nonetheless, he wouldn't be getting set up to do it unless he'ss going to be the one who does it!

So the reason Gendry gets the job must be the BWB has the sword in hand and wants it reforged and they want to keep that fact a secret so they can't take the risk of taking it to the more qualified smiths, plus Gendry is the one who's right there ready to go at a time when they don't have a lot of time left.

gendry, so far as we know, can work with just about anything except valyrian steele. there's an art to that that includes using appropriate spells in the forging/reforging process. not just anyone can do this and gendry didn't really complete his apprenticeship yet. and it takes a master to work valyrian steele.

The Freys will end up trapped inside their castle because of the BwB and Nymeria's wolfpack. After the river freezes over, they will find themselves unable even to catch fish. Slowly, they will starve. Soon they will start eating each other. Eventually, Walder Frey will be discovered almost alone in his castle, gnawing on the bones of his own children like a big fat rat.

But wasn't it Gendry's old master who reforged Ice into the two Lannister blades? As an apprentice Gendry may not have been let loose on something as valuable as Valyrian steel but he'll have done all the fetching, carrying, pumping the bellows and watching carefully while his master did the clever stuff.

I'm pretty sure it was done in one of the Free Cities that specialise in reforging Valyrian steel.

Qohor.

Nope, I've just checked. It was indeed Gendry's old master Tobho Mott who did the reforging, so if anybody else apart from him is in with a chance of putting Ice back together again its his one-time apprentice Gendry - especially as Mott commented that one of the problems of altering Valyrian steel is that it "remembers" how it was put together in the first place. Therefore if the two swords are to be beaten into one again, the fact that they will have an innate "desire" to be re-united will compensate for lack of experience on Gendry's part - if he picked up enough from Mott to understand how to make a start the two swords may do the rest themselves.

you have no idea how happy i would be if this does become the case.

ice must be restored! [/fangirlism]

seriously, though, a second long night is about to begin and i suspect ice will play a part in it somehow. whether whole or in pieces. i just keep hoping that it will be restored to its whole self.

It is revenge wish fulfillment, but it actually fits really well into the story and dovetails nicely with the Rat Cook parable. Frey and the Rat Cook did, after all, commit the same basic crime. And the Twins being overrun with Freys is a lot like the Nightfort being overrun with rats.

I like it!

Staying on the topic of Gendry, where do you think he will end up in the big scheme of things? I predict that Stannis, and his family will die, along with Edric Storm, and Gendry will be the next inline for Storms End

Well I doubt this will happen as Gendry is a bastard after all. Plus who else really knows who he is? Varys and Ceresi? Anyone else? He doesn't even know himself.

I hope it will too its just too frickin awesome not to be.

****Crackpot warning*****

This series is called A Song of ICE and FIRE. Any chance that refers to the actual sword Ice wielded by R+L=J and Fire is Aegon wielding Blackfyre? A guy can dream right?

I've always hoped he'd be legitimized. And Brienne might not 'know' but she does think he strongly resembles Renly, and Robert was known to have bastards everywhere...so it could happen.

Couple of problems with the Gendry for King theory:

1. he's a bastard, which is always a problem when proclaiming somebody to be king when basing a claim on being the rightful lawful (and legitimate) heir

2. Robert Baratheon was a usurper. The Targarayens were kings for what 300 years. Along comes Robert Baratheon and offs the last crowned Targarayen, but carelessly leaves a number of others still floating around...

Gendry has no chance unless he emulates his Dad and kills his way to the throne.

even worse than the fact that he is a bastard is that nobody knows he's Robert's bastard. Atleast Edric Storm was known as Robert's son. It's just that people have a lot more invested in Gendry then Edric
