so wednesday mls and minnesota united fc owner have a pretty big announcement.

clearly they will be saying minnesota is coming to mls next year.

not sure how i feel about adding another team (and likely one more to keep the numbers even) so quickly after bringing orlando and nycfc to the league. the fear is obviously a watering down of the talent pool.

Kick out NYC and replace with Minnesota, a real team with some history

I don't know how well that would go over but seriously I'm happy for Minnesota. I'd imagine Sacramento is next.

"Did you hear NYCFC got kicked out of the league?"

"What's NYCFC?"

"No idea. When do we play the Red Sox?"

Greg Dyke apparently doesn't want English teams or England to succeed.

Those are some proper ukipper proposals. Why can't these people acknowledge (because they must know) that the reason English players struggle is that the English youth system is completely fucked up and needs reworking? Oh, but then they'd have to do some work.

Not sure about how I feel after Sunday.

Of course, a win is nice. We haven't had too many of those lately. Two league wins in a row has been even rarer. We've also moved nine points clear of the relegation zone, which is a good thing in itself. I know Martinez has claimed he wasn't worried, because he had experience with relegation battles, but for some reason I don't have complete confidence in him.

The negatives are also easy to see. We're at 34 points after embarking on a terrible run lasting about three months. And the two victories that brought that run to a halt was a win against a terrible Newcastle side, and an undeserved victory against a QPR side who just needed someone not Bobby Zamora to score a couple of goals.

It seems we'll be stuck With Martinez for some time now, so I'm hoping - against hope - that he'll take to heart the lessons everyone has seen presented to him this season: that we need a plan B, that we should play with a higher pace and that he urgently needs to take a Defensive Organization 101 course. The last point cannot be overemphasized - his ideas for defending seem to be non-existent, and if they aren't... he's worthless.

Yeah, I posted about this in the old thread. It's absurd. The main effect of these proposals will be to make it even more common for non-EU players to acquire EU passports and for clubs to start paying even dafter amounts of money for talented teenage prospects.

Was going to start this thread and call it "Greg Dyke Goes UKIP" but Ini beat me to it. Greg Dyke is an absolute tool if he thinks this is a good idea or the solution to anything. Much like the idea of Premier League B teams, this has no redeeming features whatsoever.

I'd posit that this strategy of trying new things and hoping they work because of England and Passion rather than honestly examining the problem (if, indeed, one actually exists) hurts English football and players more than a supposed ver reliance on foreigners.

But anyway, it's a moot point. He must be dreaming if he thinks the Premier League clubs will let this through.

I love how Danny Mills wants only creme de la creme of non-EU football getting a shot to play in Premier League.

I mean, creme de la creme is THE first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name "Danny Mills".

Canadian players should not be foreign for the standards of mls.

American players in Canada should also be considered domestic.

open up the salary scenario a bit, hunt down some quality coaches abroad ( players will follow ) and that will help a lot.

US players ARE considered domestic in Canada, though. It just only runs one way, which is stupid.

In that case I can live with it. I can go back to not caring about MLS. And I will be thrilled to not have them destroying the outfield at Yankee Stadium.

Don;t listen to Ini. He's just jealous that DC United are trailing sadly behind NYCFC that's all

Two part question here:

1) So I was watching ESPN FC (ESPN's daily soccer commentary program) yesterday and they were discussing how much crap Bale was getting. One of the comments went something like, "He wouldn't get this much stick if he was a Spanish player." Which makes sense a little bit. But I got the feeling (though they didn't expressly say it) that Ronaldo was included in that. But, he's from Portugal. Does he get more latitude because Portugal is *almost* Spain? Or does that not factor in, you think?

and 2) Does anyone else watch ESPN FC? I DVR it every day and usually catch it at some point in the evening. What's the general consensus on it? Overall decent program, or not very good?
