How CM is going to convince anyone he isn't juiced up to the gills, I've got no idea.

I don't think he will even try. 99% of fans don't care.

I hadn't thought of it in a while, but its really quite surprising no one has jumped on those rights yet, and that one at least should be able to do a fairly straight adaptation if I'm remembering right (which to be fair.its been a long time since I read it).

My favourite PFH books. I'd love that. Would need a wild budget,

I just watched both Seasons in a week or two while sick.

Agree with the general consensus here that Season 1 the Empire Storyline was by far the more compelling, I didn't dislike the Terminus stuff as much as others but maybe it's because I watched it all in the space of a few days?
    I'm excited for Season 3.

Now to watch For All Mankind with my free Apple TV Subscription before I have to pay!

Boggles my mind that people would still voluntarily put poison in their bodies in this day and age with the information at their disposal. This is not just against tobacco smokers mind you- but also alcohol, weed and other shit. I don’t care what studies say about weed, it still fries your brain cells, serves as a gateway drug and is definitely addictive.

Treat your body like a temple people.

That doesn't sound like much fun. You do you and let others do them.
Here for a good time not a long time.

Bruno should have been sent off. How the fuck do you get away with running behind a player at full spead and elbowing them in the face? Like, not even a foul. Fuck VAR. Fuck the ref. Can't wait for our weekly PGMOL apology.

It was a light forearm to the face. Calm down.

(I agree its a red but lets not be silly saying he elbowed him in the face)

Ardie Savea named player of the year.

In this instance, I'm glad that they didn't default to giving it to someone from the WC winning side (kinda feel for Eben though) 'coz Ardie has genuinely been sensational over the past year and has been the best player in the world for around the past 3 years imo.

Yeah totally agree. I love Eben but Ardie 100% deserves it.

Today in our semi-regular "explaining shit to a newb", I'd like to ask a question. Why was New Zealand player shown a red card for his hit on opponent's head and South African captain (Kolisy, was it?) got a yellow for head-butting an opponent in the face? I am aware of the difference between hitting with the shoulder and head-butting, but I didn't get the impression either was deliberate, and luckily there were no serious consequences to either hit.

ljkeane explained far better than I could!

    All to do with "mitigation"

A frustrating game to end a frustrating period of rugby for All Blacks fans. South Africa were very impressive and were generally winning the collisions even when the numbers were even, I feel they could have gone up a gear if they needed to.

It was a brave effort from NZ but I do not want to see games ruined by red cards. I think having the red card be twenty minutes with a player down and then a replacement can come on, which was trialed in various places around the world, is the much better way to do it. At a time when the authorities changed the rules around any contact to the head and increased video influence it is going to continue to ruin games. Canes tackle was probably a red card by the rules, but it wasn't egregious. The player turned into him and he tackled instinctively rather than changing his body position and it wasn't a high speed collision. At least the rulings were mostly consistent at this world cup, over the last couple of years they have been all over the place.

It will be interesting to see if NZ can step back up once the most successful ever super rugby coach replaces the least ever successful super rugby coach. Fozzie has done my head in at times. The one team his short kicking game plan can actually be good against is South Africa, to break their blitz defense, and its the one time the team decides to play possession rugby. In theory the only player Robertson should be missing is Mo'unga but the other notable feature of Fozzies period in charge (aside from the lower win percentage) is the fact that so few new players coming from super rugby were unable to excel on the world stage. This could be a problem with Fozzies selections and general game plan, but it could also point to the fact that super rugby is becoming less competitive with the South Africans gone. I guess we will see over the next couple of years.

This is just a bad take on the red card.
He had him in his line of site for a few seconds then clotheslined his head. It was a blatant red card.

. The pivot is saying you feel for the Israelis who were attacked and then immediately going after the Israeli government and spend a disproportionate amount of time doing so while not spending anywhere near as much time addressing Hamas.

Everybody already knows Hamas are fucking awful though, does it need to be said in every post?  While the Israeli government has backing worldwide so yeah it makes total sense to spend more time addressing their behaviours that people may not know about.

    Lacking in moral fortitude.

Support your local team, and if you support a team you have no link with, don't just pick the most successful/famous one.  'Glory Hunter' is an very specific and targeted insult for a reason, real football fans fucking hate them.

Supporting clubs is just weird in general.
There is nothing "local" about professional clubs anymore other than where the ground is.
50 years ago your argument might have meant something when the players were also locals but nowadays not so much.

I finished Adrian Tchaikovsky's The Lords of Uncreation, the third book in his Final Architecture space opera trilogy. I thought it was a really good conclusion to the story. While there are certainly elements of the premise that are quite familiar (such as the spaceship crewed by misfits who end up having to save the day), I thought that the series did have some interesting ideas that I hadn't seen in the other space operas I had read. I thought the conclusion of the story was very satisfying and I liked that it was about more than having a big space battle (although there are a couple of big space battles in the book). I thought some of the world-building was also very good, I particularly liked the Essiel, an alien race so different from humans (in appearance they look like giant clams) that it is a struggle to understand them or to even figure out whether they are trying to help or hinder. Some other bits of the world-building are a bit less detailed, we don't really get much of an impression about what life on ordinary human worlds is like in this future. I also enjoyed the characters and thought they all got some interesting things to do in the final book, although it did sometimes feel like there are only a couple of dozen important people in this interstellar civilisation who all seem to know each other. I think Tchaikovsky has perhaps written a few better books, but I still liked this one a lot.

I've now moved on to Leigh Bardugo's Rule of Wolves.

    Just finished Lords of Uncreation.

My thoughts are pretty similar to yours!

    I loved the Essiel.

So I haven't watched Mania yet, but most of the comments I've seen from wrestling fans who have were positive.  The ending of the main event seems pretty universally panned, but everyone loved night one.

    Mania was excellent both nights.

I guess I'm one of the few happy with the main event. Cody is terrible.

  12. Yeah it's very worrying. Really hoping someone comes out of the woodwork to save Wasps.

Womens World Cup starts in two weeks.

Hard to see anyone beating England honestly but obviously homefield advantage for NZ.

Bizarre finish to the Rugby Championship game this morning between Australia and New Zealand (not sure why it was on a Thursday). Australia basically had the game won so long as they won their own lineout from the 78th minute penalty they'd been awarded then the ref gives the All Blacks a scrum because Foley was taking his time over the kick. He was a bit but that's a very big call. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Good game overall though. The commentators were saying it was because of the good performances from both sides but I actually thought it was pretty ropey from both teams. The Wallabies made a lot of errors and New Zealand let an 18 point lead slip only to get lucky at the end. It came together to make a fun match in the end though.

AFL Semi Finals is in Saturday and the rugby didn't wanna clash as AFL is far more popular.

It was bizarre but also very little sympathy for Foley, was told countless times and even had his own team mates screaming at him to kick it.
